0:00:02 > 0:00:05If you haven't heard, the weekend's not looking too bad weather-wise,

0:00:05 > 0:00:09but then into next week it stays on the unsettled side.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11So let's take a look at a bit more detail.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Let's start with August so far, which has had normal rainfall,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16actually, for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18However, for England and Wales we know it has been wet,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21but it's been very wet across East Anglia

0:00:21 > 0:00:23and the south-east in particular, where we've had, well,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26during the course of Wednesday, just two or three inches of rain.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29That's about the August rainfall in one day.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Now, those showers did eventually clear on Thursday,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33most of us had dry, fine weather,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36but already the change was afoot towards the north and west.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38The next weather system is rolling in off the Atlantic.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41That weather system looks set to bring rain to mostly western

0:00:41 > 0:00:44and northern areas during the course of Friday, so eastern parts

0:00:44 > 0:00:48may escape with a mostly dry, a second mostly dry day.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50So, if you're up in the early hours of Friday morning,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53you may be lucky enough to see the Perseid Meteor Shower,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54because it's across England and Wales

0:00:54 > 0:00:56where we'll have the clearest weather.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Friday night looks as if it'll be cloudier for the most part -

0:00:59 > 0:01:02you may catch a glance in eastern parts of Scotland.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04But as I say, it's a different-looking weather day.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06It's windier, we could have gales in the north

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and west blowing that rain eastwards across Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12much of England and Wales except, perhaps, the East Midlands,

0:01:12 > 0:01:13East Anglia and the south-east,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15which is where it will feel warmest,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17but for most of us it's much cloudier.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19There won't be a huge amount of rain - it could be heavy

0:01:19 > 0:01:22at times over the hills, but obviously it will feel cooler

0:01:22 > 0:01:24because of the wind and the cloud and rain.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26But as we move into Saturday,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28the hope is that that north-westerly breeze will blow

0:01:28 > 0:01:32a lot of the cloud away and so it will be an improving picture.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33Not a particularly warm one,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36just because we've got that breeze coming down from the north-west.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Not as strong winds either as Friday, but a cooler direction.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Eventually that rain clears away from southern and eastern areas.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43So it's not a bad day, just a few showers around,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45and then through Saturday night into Sunday

0:01:45 > 0:01:47we see a little ridge of high pressure,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49so again it will be quite chilly, I think, Sunday morning,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52down into single figures in rural areas.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54But it does look like the drier day of the weekend,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56but both days don't look too bad.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Lighter winds, so feeling a little bit warmer,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01and that high pressure should hold off these weather fronts

0:02:01 > 0:02:02until later in the day.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05They're more likely to come in through Sunday night into Monday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07You can see this little area of low pressure winding itself up,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09another weather front to the north.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13So we start the new week back to square one - pretty unsettled,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16especially across the northern and western half of the UK,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19central and eastern parts of England staying a little bit warmer

0:02:19 > 0:02:21and sunnier and drier.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23So, the rain again for the north and west on Monday,

0:02:23 > 0:02:27but Monday evening and into Tuesday sees that rain and the emphasis

0:02:27 > 0:02:30for the wetter weather shifting into eastern areas again.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32And there could be a thundery element in that,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35so again, Tuesday looks quite wet for a start.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37There's some uncertainty on timings but we'll keep you posted.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39And then behind that, it's sunny spells

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and a scattering of showers, mostly in the north and west.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Now, once that area of low pressure moves away

0:02:45 > 0:02:47there's a temporary ridge of high pressure,

0:02:47 > 0:02:50so the middle of the week is set fair. But for how long?

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Now, that's the question mark, because you can see

0:02:52 > 0:02:55the succession of low pressures lining up in the Atlantic.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58This one on Thursday, possibly Friday, looks particularly nasty.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01But thereafter, we've got those weather fronts coming in.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04And the difficulty is that with that area of low pressure

0:03:04 > 0:03:07there may be some tropical air mixed in, which will give us

0:03:07 > 0:03:10a lot of wet weather, but it also makes it more difficult

0:03:10 > 0:03:13for the computer models to analyse it correctly.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17So, yes, we have some uncertainty, but we know it will stay unsettled,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20we're fairly confident about that, so there will be rain at times

0:03:20 > 0:03:23and the potential is there for some stormy weather later in the week.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26And again, no sign of any prolonged dry and sunny spells at this stage

0:03:26 > 0:03:29but as ever, you can check the latest on the website.
