0:00:02 > 0:00:05Despite the disappointing weather some of us have had this week,

0:00:05 > 0:00:09at least it looks like a window of fine weather will coincide

0:00:09 > 0:00:10with the weekend.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12But thereafter, it's probably back business as usual.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15We've had some rain crossing the country through Friday.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16This is the band of cloud here.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19You can see cloud strewn out right across the Atlantic,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21so other areas of low pressure heading our way.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23So it will be just a temporary dry spell.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26As the weather systems and their drizzly rain

0:00:26 > 0:00:28clear out of the way, it allows this ridge

0:00:28 > 0:00:30of high pressure behind me to build in for the weekend.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33But it will be a slow start to our Saturday morning.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35It could be a bit grey, drizzly,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37particularly in southern areas

0:00:37 > 0:00:38with that weather front slowly exiting.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Then it's showers following on

0:00:40 > 0:00:41the north-westerly breeze.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43North-westerly isn't a particularly

0:00:43 > 0:00:44warm direction for ourselves,

0:00:44 > 0:00:47but at least it will blow in some sunshine,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48just a scattering of showers

0:00:48 > 0:00:50and not everywhere will see one.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52The vast majority enjoying

0:00:52 > 0:00:53a lot of dry weather,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56not especially warm, 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58But the cloud will clear quite quickly

0:00:58 > 0:01:00through Saturday evening and overnight.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01Quite chilly for the time of year.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03We could see temperatures fall

0:01:03 > 0:01:04to 2 or 3 degrees

0:01:04 > 0:01:06across the glens of Scotland

0:01:06 > 0:01:08which is close enough to a grass force.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10As we had last weekend, actually.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12But for the majority, just a chilly night,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14It could be a bit foggy in a few places

0:01:14 > 0:01:15first thing Sunday morning.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Again, there's still some strength

0:01:17 > 0:01:18in the August sunshine

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and there should be plenty of that

0:01:20 > 0:01:21on offer on Sunday.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23There are a few flies in the ointment.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24One or two showers in the North

0:01:24 > 0:01:26and the later in the day, rain comes

0:01:26 > 0:01:28into Northern Ireland and western fringes of England and Wales.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30That takes us into the week ahead.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33So we've got this fine spell of weather, or mostly fine,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36over the weekend, but it's back to business as usual next week.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39In fact we could have potentially stormy weather late on.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41The rain I talked about coming in late

0:01:41 > 0:01:43to Northern Ireland on Sunday.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Moves in through Sunday night

0:01:44 > 0:01:46into Monday and it's a slow mover,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48quite heavy rain cos there's warm air in there,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50which tends to generate a lot of heavy rain.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52It looks at the moment as if perhaps

0:01:52 > 0:01:53the far north will escape the worst

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and perhaps the far south and east,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57and not a bad day here on Monday.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59The rain for many central and western areas,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01but heavy rain and it continues on

0:02:01 > 0:02:03through Monday night and into Tuesday.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Slowly creeping eastwards and at the same time

0:02:06 > 0:02:09we may pick up some continental thunderstorms

0:02:09 > 0:02:11coming into southern and eastern areas.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13If those combine, we could have

0:02:13 > 0:02:15some very wet weather potentially as we move into Tuesday.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18But it should then move out of the way.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19A ridge of high pressure starts

0:02:19 > 0:02:21to topple in from the Atlantic,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23pushing those weather systems out of the way,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25so it freshens up and dries up

0:02:25 > 0:02:27temporarily through Tuesday night.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29So another chilly night, and into Wednesday,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31but already behind me we've got trouble brewing.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33This is the potential for some stormy weather

0:02:33 > 0:02:35around the middle part of the week.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Now, the fly in the ointment

0:02:37 > 0:02:39is that this has got some tropical air

0:02:39 > 0:02:41mixed in with it, so it is going to prove

0:02:41 > 0:02:43a problem for the computer models

0:02:43 > 0:02:44to nail down the detail.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47But at this stage it looks like it will whisk across the Atlantic,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49turning to a fairly deep area of low pressure,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51with gales, possibly severe gale force winds.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55And a lot of rain because there's tropical air mixed in with it.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56That's how the mid part of the week looks,

0:02:56 > 0:03:00but you can see those weather systems trailing right the way

0:03:00 > 0:03:03back across the Atlantic to the USA and Canada's shores, in fact.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06And it's because we've got a strong jet stream

0:03:06 > 0:03:07pushing across the Atlantic

0:03:07 > 0:03:09and it's driving those low pressures

0:03:09 > 0:03:10eastward towards our shores.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13We're still to the north of the jet stream, still in the colder air.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Hence the fact there's nothing very warm

0:03:15 > 0:03:17heading our way in the foreseeable future

0:03:17 > 0:03:19and hence the fact that it'll stay generally unsettled.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22But the next weekend we might be back into a brief

0:03:22 > 0:03:25ridge of high pressure, possibly dry with some sunshine.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28But the generally unsettled theme is set to continue.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Bye-bye.
