0:00:03 > 0:00:05Whether it's back to work and school this week or you're

0:00:05 > 0:00:08still in the flow of your holidays it's damning of the August

0:00:08 > 0:00:10weather so far that all it took on Monday was

0:00:10 > 0:00:16a temperature of 25 to make it the warmest day of the month so far.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Will there be any warmth on the horizon?

0:00:18 > 0:00:21It's very complicated cos of what's happening in the Atlantic.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23This is something which often happens this time of year.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25This is a developing tropical storm

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and over the next few days it is going to strengthen.

0:00:28 > 0:00:33It will slowly strengthen to become a hurricane.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35Once you throw a hurricane into the mix, particularly across the

0:00:35 > 0:00:39Atlantic, it can do funny things to our weather in the longer term.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43It can amplify the jet stream and if we get on the right side of it,

0:00:43 > 0:00:47dry and warm, wrong side, something more persistent and wet.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50The jet stream at the moment, weakened a little bit.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Still to the south of us and that leaves us

0:00:52 > 0:00:55in this mixture of sunshine and showers we've seen so far.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56Warm enough when the sun is out

0:00:56 > 0:01:00but when the showers come through it will be fairly cool.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Hopefully most of you will avoid the showers for the bulk of Tuesday.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Lots of showers across Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and the far north of England but some may miss them all together.

0:01:09 > 0:01:14Further south few showers and in the sunshine pleasant enough,

0:01:14 > 0:01:19we could get 25 or maybe a notch higher.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21As we see Tuesday out most of the showers fade away.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Ridge of high pressure building,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25winds going to the south in western areas.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28That stops the temperature from dropping too much here

0:01:28 > 0:01:31but further east it may be a cool start to Wednesday.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Temperatures in some rural areas could dip into single figures.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36But a pleasant start for many.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38We've got that ridge of high pressure in place.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Sunny start in the east.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44In the west make the most of the sunny weather early on

0:01:44 > 0:01:48because cloud and rain will move in through the day.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Temperatures are higher in eastern areas even with the sunshine

0:01:51 > 0:01:53turning hazy.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55One or two could get close to the mid-20s.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Through the night into Thursday a very wet spell

0:01:57 > 0:01:59by night pushing from west to east.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Bit of a breeze attached to that area of rain.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05For most it gets out into the

0:02:05 > 0:02:07North Sea by the time we start Thursday.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09We're back to sunshine and showers.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Some showers in the west heavy and thundery.

0:02:12 > 0:02:13Some will avoid the showers and

0:02:13 > 0:02:15temperatures will push their way into the low 20s.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20We do have an area of low pressure centred to the north of us

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and that does continue to feed in that shower risk.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25We could see longer spells of rain as we head into Friday.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29A few weather fronts around that low pressure bringing heavier

0:02:29 > 0:02:32rain in the north.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Better chances of sunshine between the rain further south.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40With a windier spell it will feel substantially cooler.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44That low pressure system pushes off into the North Sea as

0:02:44 > 0:02:47we finish Friday.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51Into the weekend we don't start on a warm note.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56Blustery conditions but it's back to sunshine, hit and miss showers.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58A ridge of high pressure builds late in the day

0:02:58 > 0:03:01and most of those showers should fade.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Then we get into that wriggly jet stream I mentioned.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07What side of that we end up into as we go into Sunday

0:03:07 > 0:03:09and the start of next week.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12It does look like we'll finish the weekend with low

0:03:12 > 0:03:17pressure in the west but what happens next is the big uncertainty.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29All is to play for. I will keep you updated as we go into tomorrow.
