0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello, again. Any time you add some high energy weather systems

0:00:05 > 0:00:07into the atmosphere, it sends the computer models

0:00:07 > 0:00:08into a bit of a spin -

0:00:08 > 0:00:11and this is just the right time of year for such systems.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13They're known as hurricanes or tropical storms,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15and this was Hurricane Gert earlier

0:00:15 > 0:00:16on the other side of the Atlantic.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18The remnants of that will head our way

0:00:18 > 0:00:20later in the weekend.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22But move further south - this is the spawning ground,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24where we could see more storms

0:00:24 > 0:00:26and potential hurricanes developing,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28and it's the reason it's been so wet in Sierra Leone -

0:00:28 > 0:00:31but the more of these storms you add into the mix,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33the more uncertainty you create

0:00:33 > 0:00:35in the longer-range forecast.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Not too much uncertainty, though, for Friday.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39We've got a mixture of sunshine and showers -

0:00:39 > 0:00:41more showers than we had on Thursday.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Some longer spells of rain lingering

0:00:43 > 0:00:44in the north-east of Scotland,

0:00:44 > 0:00:45another burst of rain

0:00:45 > 0:00:47coming across the Irish sea into Wales,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49later into the Midlands -

0:00:49 > 0:00:52and it will be cooler by three degrees or more

0:00:52 > 0:00:53in some places. It will feel cooler -

0:00:53 > 0:00:55not just because of the showers -

0:00:55 > 0:00:57there will be some strong gusty winds, too,

0:00:57 > 0:00:58near those heavy downpours,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and that will continue to blow some wetter weather

0:01:00 > 0:01:02eastwards during the evening.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03Then, later in the night,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05things start to calm down a little bit.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07The winds drop, many places become dry,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08cooler air,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10so temperatures could be down

0:01:10 > 0:01:12to about 10 degrees or so in many places.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14As we head towards the weekend, though,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16there's the prospect of some sunshine for a while.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18There'll be fewer showers around on Saturday,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21and then we've got the chance of this rain arriving on Sunday,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23from what's left of Hurricane Gert.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Saturday, though, fairly straightforward.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27A nice day for many of us, actually,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29especially across the bulk of England and Wales -

0:01:29 > 0:01:30perhaps Northern Ireland, too.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Very few showers around here, some sunshine,

0:01:32 > 0:01:33turning hazy later on,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35most of the showers up across Scotland,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37where we've got some slightly stronger winds,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39but not that bad a day, really -

0:01:39 > 0:01:40but not that warm.

0:01:40 > 0:01:4216 in Glasgow, disappointing.

0:01:42 > 0:01:4421 in London.

0:01:44 > 0:01:45There is some warmer air

0:01:45 > 0:01:47with what's left of Hurricane Gert,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and these weather systems pushing in on Sunday

0:01:50 > 0:01:51likely to bring some rain.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Not sure how much rain - at the moment,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56it doesn't look that there will be an awful lot.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Many places north and east will start dry,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00we'll see the cloud increasing,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01and then a spell of rain shuffles up

0:02:01 > 0:02:02from the south-west,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05together with some slightly stronger winds.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Maybe you'll notice, more, the heat -

0:02:07 > 0:02:10particularly across southern and eastern parts of England.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Any warmth, though, coming in association

0:02:12 > 0:02:14with this tropical system, will be brief,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17because there's cooler air in the north,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20and that will win out as we move into Tuesday.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21The higher temperatures likely

0:02:21 > 0:02:23towards the south-east of the UK.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25How warm it will get depends on how quickly

0:02:25 > 0:02:27this band of rain moves down from the north,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30there's the cooler air to the north of that,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32with sunshine and showers -

0:02:32 > 0:02:33and, as we move into Tuesday,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35well, that warmth is probably pushed away.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38There will be quite a keen wind blowing down from the north.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40It will bring some sunshine and some showers.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Quite a few showers for Scotland

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and down the eastern side of England, as well,

0:02:45 > 0:02:46and it's cooler by Tuesday,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47because this low pressure

0:02:47 > 0:02:49is heading its way towards Scandinavia,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50and as it does so,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53it allows us to draw in our cooler northerly wind,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55but, at the same time, we should start to see

0:02:55 > 0:02:57high pressure pushing in from the Atlantic.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58The problem is,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00and the main uncertainty is,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02how far north the high pressure will build.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Some computer models are suggesting

0:03:04 > 0:03:06that the high is more a feature

0:03:06 > 0:03:08across the southern half of the UK.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10That will allow more Atlantic winds

0:03:10 > 0:03:12to arrive across the north

0:03:12 > 0:03:14later on into next week -

0:03:14 > 0:03:16But there is a glimmer of hope, I suppose,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18in what has been a disappointing month.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21It looks like it's going to be the southern half of the UK

0:03:21 > 0:03:22that stays drier for longer -

0:03:22 > 0:03:24there's the potential for this rain

0:03:24 > 0:03:25to arrive back in the north,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28but, as I say, there is considerable uncertainty.
