0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there, some very mixed weather on the way
0:00:04 > 0:00:06over the next ten days - we're unlikely to break
0:00:06 > 0:00:08any records, whether it be for rainfall or temperatures
0:00:08 > 0:00:11but we had an unusual start to the week -
0:00:11 > 0:00:15not the 18 degrees in Scotland on Monday, but the 28 in Lincolnshire,
0:00:15 > 0:00:19which was a record temperature for the late-August bank holiday Monday.
0:00:19 > 0:00:23The warm air ahead of this weather front - cooler, fresher air
0:00:23 > 0:00:24behind it to the north -
0:00:24 > 0:00:26on the weather front we have seen not just thicker cloud
0:00:26 > 0:00:29but also a bit of rain and drizzle but most of that
0:00:29 > 0:00:31is fading away. But we will have cloudier skies
0:00:31 > 0:00:34running across Yorkshire into Lincolnshire,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36across the Midlands towards the south-west of England,
0:00:36 > 0:00:39so a much cooler day here than it was on Monday.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41Brightening up in Wales and northern England,
0:00:41 > 0:00:44sunshine and showers and more of a breeze for Scotland
0:00:44 > 0:00:47and Northern Ireland. The last of the warmth is across East Anglia
0:00:47 > 0:00:50and the south-east, though it won't be as hot as it was
0:00:50 > 0:00:52on Monday, there will be a bit more cloud around
0:00:52 > 0:00:54that will still be there into the evening.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56And then overnight into the early hours of Wednesday morning,
0:00:56 > 0:00:59there's a chance of catching some showers from the near Continent
0:00:59 > 0:01:02and at the same time we see a line of rain developing
0:01:02 > 0:01:05in northern England and Wales. So you get the sense that
0:01:05 > 0:01:07the weather is starting to change around the middle part of
0:01:07 > 0:01:10the week. And we have two areas of low pressure
0:01:10 > 0:01:14and their attendant weather systems converging on England and
0:01:14 > 0:01:17Wales on Wednesday. Scotland and Northern Ireland - still seeing
0:01:17 > 0:01:20a mixture of sunshine and showers and some blustery winds
0:01:20 > 0:01:21in the north-west too.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24Light winds for England and Wales, this slow-moving rain
0:01:24 > 0:01:27across Wales, the Midlands, and the south-west of England.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30An increasing risk of catching some heavier rain, perhaps thundery,
0:01:30 > 0:01:34coming in from the near Continent in the south-east.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36That will put a lid on the temperatures and it will
0:01:36 > 0:01:39be a cooler day than it's been over the past couple of days.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42The really warm air is just across the other side of the Atlantic,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45in the near Continent and this is where we may see
0:01:45 > 0:01:49the heaviest of the rainfall. Those weather systems slipping away
0:01:49 > 0:01:52for Thursday, maybe starting the day with one or two showers
0:01:52 > 0:01:54to the east of London - those should push through.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57And there will be some decent spells of sunshine.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00We focus the showers more out to the west, across Northern Ireland,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03across western Scotland and perhaps later in the day for western fringes
0:02:03 > 0:02:06of Wales and the far south-west of England.
0:02:06 > 0:02:08Temperatures still very disappointing, though,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10for this time of the year.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13A flabby area of low pressure in that weather front responsible for
0:02:13 > 0:02:17the showers on Thursday and everything very slowly drifting
0:02:17 > 0:02:19into England and Wales. As you can see, not many isobars
0:02:19 > 0:02:23on the chart, light winds again. Everything slow-moving.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26So these showers and more cloud drifting into England and Wales
0:02:26 > 0:02:28on Friday, the showers a bit hit and miss.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31Probably turning a bit drier for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34Those showers continue to drift towards the south-east,
0:02:34 > 0:02:37where there still could be one or two into Saturday
0:02:37 > 0:02:40but otherwise many places probably having a dry day
0:02:40 > 0:02:43with some sunshine and light winds and in the sunshine
0:02:43 > 0:02:45it will feel quite pleasant.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47We start with high pressure close to the UK on Saturday -
0:02:47 > 0:02:50the centre of it, though, is drifting up towards
0:02:50 > 0:02:53Scandinavia. That will allow stronger winds
0:02:53 > 0:02:56to come in from the Atlantic and these weather fronts too.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59But it's a very slow process. So, into next week,
0:02:59 > 0:03:01the higher pressure tends to push away,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03we start to see weather fronts coming in together
0:03:03 > 0:03:06with lower pressure from the Atlantic
0:03:06 > 0:03:08but it's going to take some time for these weather fronts
0:03:08 > 0:03:11to move in across the UK and perhaps the south-east
0:03:11 > 0:03:14will hang on to some warmer air but with the risk
0:03:14 > 0:03:16of some thunderstorms, here we are getting air more from
0:03:16 > 0:03:19the near Continent, whereas the rest of the UK
0:03:19 > 0:03:22turning that bit more unsettled over the coming few days
0:03:22 > 0:03:25with bands of rain coming in together with some stronger winds
0:03:25 > 0:03:28as well. That's it from me, more details online.
