0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello again. Over the next ten days, I doubt we're going to find
0:00:04 > 0:00:06the weather lurching from one extreme to another
0:00:06 > 0:00:09quite as we have done over the last day or two.
0:00:09 > 0:00:13Now, this was London on Wednesday and remember the day before
0:00:13 > 0:00:16in the south-east of England, the temperature was 29 degrees.
0:00:16 > 0:00:20Well, on Wednesday, thanks to the cloud and rain, London,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23Reading and Ipswich were only 14 degrees
0:00:23 > 0:00:26and it should be nearer 19 or 20 at this time of the year.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29Elsewhere, across the UK, those numbers were nearer the
0:00:29 > 0:00:31average for the end of the month and we'll see those sort of
0:00:31 > 0:00:34temperatures over the coming few days.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36After the rain, we've got sunshine and showers, really,
0:00:36 > 0:00:39on Thursday. Many eastern parts of England starting dry
0:00:39 > 0:00:42but the showers will arrive here through the afternoon,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45quite slow-moving, heavy, potentially with some hail and
0:00:45 > 0:00:49thunder - temperatures about 17 or 18 but quite a bit warmer
0:00:49 > 0:00:52across the south-east and East Anglia than it was
0:00:52 > 0:00:55on Wednesday. Those showers continue across eastern areas
0:00:55 > 0:00:57through the evening and then they'll probably tend to
0:00:57 > 0:01:01fade away overnight. And with little or no breeze around
0:01:01 > 0:01:03and clear skies, it's going to be quite cold.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Those are the numbers in the towns and cities
0:01:05 > 0:01:09but five, six degrees quite likely in some rural areas.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12Now as we move towards the end of the week, in time for the weekend,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14we are going to start to push up this area of high pressure
0:01:14 > 0:01:18from the Atlantic and that kills off most of the showers,
0:01:18 > 0:01:20so for most of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales
0:01:20 > 0:01:23and the western parts of England, it may well be dry on Friday.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Showers - very hit and miss, mind you - more likely
0:01:26 > 0:01:29across eastern parts of England. Even here, many places will
0:01:29 > 0:01:31still be dry, to end the week.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34And we've got those familiar temperatures again, these are the
0:01:34 > 0:01:36average sort of temperatures we'd expect at this time of the year.
0:01:36 > 0:01:39And of course, we are now moving into September,
0:01:39 > 0:01:42Friday into Saturday that ridge of high pressure beginning
0:01:42 > 0:01:45to retreat a little bit because look at what's coming in
0:01:45 > 0:01:48from the Atlantic - that's going to change things eventually.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50Still a fine day for most places on Saturday,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53some warm sunshine around after another chilly start.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56We've got more cloud and more breeze beginning to arrive
0:01:56 > 0:01:59across Northern Ireland, perhaps the north-west of Scotland as well,
0:01:59 > 0:02:01where temperatures are about 17 degrees.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05Warmer in the sunshine further south and east.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08And then as we move overnight into the second half of the weekend,
0:02:08 > 0:02:11this is where we start to see some significant changes
0:02:11 > 0:02:13because as well as the wind picking up, we've got these
0:02:13 > 0:02:16weather fronts moving in and that will bring some rain initially
0:02:16 > 0:02:20across the western side of the UK. Slowly pushing its way eastwards,
0:02:20 > 0:02:23some doubt as to how far east it will get and for most of the day
0:02:23 > 0:02:26eastern Scotland and eastern England will be dry and bright
0:02:26 > 0:02:28with some sunshine. We're going to get some tropical
0:02:28 > 0:02:32air, not from Harvey that was bringing all that rain in Texas,
0:02:32 > 0:02:36but this area of cloud here was a tropical low and it brings
0:02:36 > 0:02:39with it the rain that we see on Sunday.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41And it brings with it some complications in the forecast.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44It looks like that rain should tend to peter out on Monday
0:02:44 > 0:02:48but we are left with a lot of cloud and some warmer, more tropical air,
0:02:48 > 0:02:51so temperatures will be a bit higher to start next week.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55But there are more weather fronts and bands of rain lurking
0:02:55 > 0:02:58out in the Atlantic to slowly push into the UK.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02So the longer-range outlook hasn't really changed very much.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05We're going to gradually get this Atlantic influence with these
0:03:05 > 0:03:08bands of rain out towards the north-west erratically
0:03:08 > 0:03:12moving eastwards across the UK. The strongest winds are
0:03:12 > 0:03:14going to be across the north-west of the UK
0:03:14 > 0:03:17but we're going to blow in some warmer nights, thanks to more cloud
0:03:17 > 0:03:20with those showers or some longer spells of rain.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22Gales are likely in the north-west but towards the south-east
0:03:22 > 0:03:25always that bit drier. Not much rain and temperatures should be
0:03:25 > 0:03:27a bit higher as well. Goodbye.
