0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. It's certainly turning into a weekend of two halves,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06so I hope you made the most of the fine weather

0:00:06 > 0:00:08that we had on Saturday.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12In early September the land is still warmer than the sea

0:00:12 > 0:00:14which is why we saw the cloud bubbling up

0:00:14 > 0:00:17over land and coastal areas were lovely and sunny

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and there were just sufficient depth to the cloud

0:00:20 > 0:00:25across Suffolk and Norfolk to give us one or two showers on Saturday.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Those are clearing away

0:00:27 > 0:00:29and instead the major changes coming in from the Atlantic.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32The cloud has been thickening up and these weather fronts

0:00:32 > 0:00:34will push rain very slowly eastwards

0:00:34 > 0:00:37into the UK for the second half of the weekend.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39There'll still be some hazy sunshine for a while in eastern Scotland

0:00:39 > 0:00:41and eastern England and it may well

0:00:41 > 0:00:43be dry for most of the day because

0:00:43 > 0:00:47this rain is quite slowly pushing its way eastwards.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Initially some heavy bursts of rain on the hills in the west.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52The rain becomes more drizzly and lighter through the day

0:00:52 > 0:00:55but a lot of low cloud and it will be quite poor for western areas.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56Less so near the east coast

0:00:56 > 0:00:58where we have the best of the weather.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Even here through the evening and overnight

0:01:00 > 0:01:02we may see a little bit of rain cropping up

0:01:02 > 0:01:06but the tendency is for the rain to just peter out overnight.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09We're left with a lot of low cloud, hill fog,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12and some warm air to start the new week.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14That weather front, then, moving into the UK

0:01:14 > 0:01:16peters out, weakens.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18The next one has a bit more oomph to it

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and that's pushing into the back of that first one

0:01:20 > 0:01:24and it will bring a spell of heavier rain perhaps to Northern Ireland,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26more particularly into Scotland.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Ahead of that, to the south across England and Wales,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31still cloudy still a bit damp out there as well

0:01:31 > 0:01:34but we've got some warm air actually.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36A bit of tropical air in the mix for Monday

0:01:36 > 0:01:38so despite all of that cloudy, damp weather

0:01:38 > 0:01:41we still could find temperatures into 22

0:01:41 > 0:01:42or 23 degrees territory.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43On that weather front, though,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46there is potential for a wave developing which

0:01:46 > 0:01:48will stall the progress and could bring a spell of

0:01:48 > 0:01:51heavy rain across the UK on Monday night.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53The worst of that rain clearing out into the North Sea.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56The hang back of rain and cloud into the south-east for a while.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Then things brighten up.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00We get some sunshine and there will be

0:02:00 > 0:02:02a few showers in the north-west.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04So some muggy air for a while towards the south-east,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06but fresher air is coming in

0:02:06 > 0:02:09from the west behind that weather front,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11which does finally clear away.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Then we get this sort of attempt at

0:02:12 > 0:02:14a bump of high pressure overnight

0:02:14 > 0:02:16so probably a touch cooler, I think,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18by the time we get to Wednesday morning.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19There'll be some sunshine around.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Still got a westerly breeze, mind you.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Strongest up towards the north-west

0:02:23 > 0:02:26and this is where we are more likely to see some showers,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28perhaps some longer spells of rain.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30If we don't get the longer spells of rain on Wednesday

0:02:30 > 0:02:32it looks like we'll get it in the north-west on Thursday

0:02:32 > 0:02:35as these weather fronts approach due to that area of low pressure.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38And that sets us up really towards the latter part of the week.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Jet stream roughly in this position

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and not as far south as it was

0:02:42 > 0:02:44over the summer but still close to the UK,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46picking up areas of low pressure,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48driving them across the northern half of the country.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Further south, the Azores High tries to come in

0:02:51 > 0:02:53to southern areas from time to time

0:02:53 > 0:02:56and we're left, by the time we get into next weekend,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57with some very mixed weather

0:02:57 > 0:02:59across the north-west of the UK.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01Closer to low pressure,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03could be quite wet and windy for a while.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Higher pressure more towards the south and south-east.

0:03:05 > 0:03:06Here next weekend

0:03:06 > 0:03:09potentially something a bit drier

0:03:09 > 0:03:11and a little bit warmer as well.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12But on the whole,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15the outlook as we go further into September is very mixed.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19We'll find that strong jet stream pushing in some spells of rain.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22There'll be some drier and brighter interludes

0:03:22 > 0:03:24in between but may not feel that warm actually,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26particularly in the north,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28where the winds will be stronger.
