0:00:02 > 0:00:04For the next ten days, all our weather is going to be coming in

0:00:04 > 0:00:09from the Atlantic, so don't expect anything dry, warm and sunny.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12At the moment, things are fairly slow-moving.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14We've got this weather front which has brought cloud

0:00:14 > 0:00:17and rain earlier on, it's just dying out there in situ.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21Bumping into the back of that, this next active weather front

0:00:21 > 0:00:23approaching from the Atlantic.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25It's going to bring some rain into the north-west.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27The rain could clear away from Northern Ireland

0:00:27 > 0:00:29later on Monday but it sets in in Scotland.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33England and Wales, after a warm but grey, misty, murky start,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36may brighten up a touch, still be a few drizzly showers

0:00:36 > 0:00:39and even with the cloud, 20 degrees, but get a burst of sunshine,

0:00:39 > 0:00:4122 or 23 - we've got some warm air.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43But remember, we still have some rain.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46It may ease off for a while but then it comes back in again

0:00:46 > 0:00:47from the south-west approaches.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Some heavier rain overnight developing perhaps in Wales,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53northern England, perhaps into southern Scotland.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57South of that, in the warm air, overnight lows perhaps 17 degrees.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Here's the weather front bringing the rain

0:00:59 > 0:01:01and it's got a bit of wave on it,

0:01:01 > 0:01:05hence the stalling of the movement of the weather front

0:01:05 > 0:01:08and the band of rain, and hence the heavier rain overnight,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11which moves away from northern England in the morning

0:01:11 > 0:01:12out into the north Sea,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14but there'll still be some bursts of rain to

0:01:14 > 0:01:16sweep across the Midlands into the south-east and we're not sure

0:01:16 > 0:01:20how quickly that will clear away from south-eastern areas on Tuesday.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Otherwise, a change to fresher conditions, cleaner air,

0:01:24 > 0:01:28some sunshine and perhaps a few showers towards the north-west.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29And then for the middle part of the week,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31we can trace our weather all the way back to the other

0:01:31 > 0:01:35side of the Atlantic, these tram lines coming across from west

0:01:35 > 0:01:37to east, heading right the way to the UK.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41So a broad westerly airflow, westerly winds, some sunshine,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44maybe some showers, quite a lot of cloud, I suspect,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45the bulk of the showers out towards the west

0:01:45 > 0:01:47and the north-west of the UK.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50And these are the temperatures - 16, perhaps 17 in the north,

0:01:50 > 0:01:5220 in the south-east, and those numbers are about average,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54really, for this time of the year,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57and we'll see those temperatures over the coming few days.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Still got that westerly airflow as we move into Thursday.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Perhaps fewer isobars, not quite as windy,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05but again a fair bit of cloud around, some sunshine at times.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Again the risk of a few showers before we see some wetter,

0:02:08 > 0:02:12windier weather arriving in the far north-west later on in the day.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15And we look towards the north with an area of low pressure

0:02:15 > 0:02:17between Scotland and Iceland,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20and this weather front is moving south into the UK.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23It's a frontogenetic weather front,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25which means it's becoming more active, essentially,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27the rain becoming heavier,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30becoming broader as it sweeps its way down across the UK,

0:02:30 > 0:02:34so we're all going to get a spell of wet and windy weather.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37A disappointing time for much of the day on Friday.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Now, if we look back at the middle part of the week,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41I talked about that westerly airflow -

0:02:41 > 0:02:43this is the position of the jet stream.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Lower pressure to the north, higher pressure trying to

0:02:46 > 0:02:49build in to the south but maintaining that westerly airflow.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Position of the jet stream crucial, of course,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54as we know from the summer experience.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56And over the weekend we're going to find that jet stream

0:02:56 > 0:02:59a bit further south, so we're more likely

0:02:59 > 0:03:01to have lower pressure across the UK.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03And it could be quite a deep area of low pressure as well,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06so perhaps into next weekend, prospects not so good -

0:03:06 > 0:03:11it looks like it could be quite wet and also rather windy as well.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12And further ahead,

0:03:12 > 0:03:16we keep this very changeable theme going with more weather fronts,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18more areas of low pressure approaching from the Atlantic.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21A little sunshine, perhaps, but dare I say it?

0:03:21 > 0:03:25Yes, I'm going to say it - it's going to feel autumnal.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28No signs of any changes, really, over the coming few days.
