0:00:02 > 0:00:04We've had some wet weather, some sunny weather,
0:00:04 > 0:00:07some cold weather already this weekend and we will continue
0:00:07 > 0:00:11to see a bit of everything as we head on through the week ahead.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13Sunday starts off with some showers
0:00:13 > 0:00:16and this chilly north-westerly wind,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18but, as this area of high pressure
0:00:18 > 0:00:20starts to build its way in from the south-west,
0:00:20 > 0:00:21things will settle down.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23The showers will tend to fade away.
0:00:23 > 0:00:25They'll take a while to do so,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27an area of showers drifting southwards
0:00:27 > 0:00:28across England and Wales
0:00:28 > 0:00:29right through into the afternoon,
0:00:29 > 0:00:31but for most as we end the day,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33there'll be some good spells of sunshine,
0:00:33 > 0:00:35windy to the south-west, windy to the north-east
0:00:35 > 0:00:37and temperatures really struggling.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40These are the afternoon highs - 7-11 degrees.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42And as we head through Sunday night -
0:00:42 > 0:00:44Bonfire Night, of course -
0:00:44 > 0:00:46it will get very chilly under these clear skies.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Now, it's where we will keep the clear skies
0:00:48 > 0:00:49in central and eastern areas
0:00:49 > 0:00:51that will see the lowest of the temperatures.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53Quite a widespread frost,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55towns and cities down to freezing
0:00:55 > 0:00:56or just a touch above,
0:00:56 > 0:00:58but in the countryside,
0:00:58 > 0:01:01maybe down all the way to -5 or -6 degrees Celsius
0:01:01 > 0:01:03so for some, we'll start Monday
0:01:03 > 0:01:05with a touch of frost, but a bright start.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Further west, though, things will be beginning
0:01:07 > 0:01:09to change because of this frontal system.
0:01:09 > 0:01:10Now, this front will be
0:01:10 > 0:01:12the major player in our weather,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14really, as we head through
0:01:14 > 0:01:15the first part of the working week,
0:01:15 > 0:01:17bringing some outbreaks of rain,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19but the front making very, very slow progress
0:01:19 > 0:01:20so, yes, things will cloud over
0:01:20 > 0:01:22across Northern Ireland, Western Scotland
0:01:22 > 0:01:24and here we will see some outbreaks
0:01:24 > 0:01:25of heavy and persistent rain,
0:01:25 > 0:01:28but not much rain getting into England and Wales,
0:01:28 > 0:01:29here just turning a little cloudy
0:01:29 > 0:01:30and damp in the west
0:01:30 > 0:01:32and all the while after the frosty start,
0:01:32 > 0:01:34we'll hold on to some sunshine all day long
0:01:34 > 0:01:36in East Anglia and the south-east.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38So, our front still drifting slowly
0:01:38 > 0:01:40and erratically eastwards into Tuesday,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43wriggling around on top of the British Isles.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46The rain eventually, though, during Tuesday,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48pulling away from Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and then setting in across northern
0:01:50 > 0:01:51and western parts of England and Wales.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53To the south-east, it'll be windy
0:01:53 > 0:01:55and a little bit milder at this stage -
0:01:55 > 0:01:5713 in London, but turning colder again out west,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59just 9 degrees in Belfast
0:01:59 > 0:02:01because this is a cold front,
0:02:01 > 0:02:02introducing colder air,
0:02:02 > 0:02:04the front finally, we suspect,
0:02:04 > 0:02:05will clear away to the east
0:02:05 > 0:02:07by the first part of Wednesday
0:02:07 > 0:02:09and then we're back to this area of high pressure
0:02:09 > 0:02:11trying to take control of things
0:02:11 > 0:02:12from the south-west.
0:02:12 > 0:02:13So, Wednesday a window
0:02:13 > 0:02:15of mainly fine weather.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17There could be some frost and fog to start,
0:02:17 > 0:02:18then some spells of sunshine.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20A little bit cooler at this stage,
0:02:20 > 0:02:219-11 degrees,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23but then it all happens again.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25Frontal systems push back in from the west,
0:02:25 > 0:02:27some rain during Wednesday night into Thursday,
0:02:27 > 0:02:28and behind this cold front,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30we get back into a north-westerly wind
0:02:30 > 0:02:33so it will try to bring some cold air again
0:02:33 > 0:02:34across the country.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37Probably not as cold as it is at the moment,
0:02:37 > 0:02:39but still cold enough for any showers
0:02:39 > 0:02:41that fall across northern areas,
0:02:41 > 0:02:42particularly Scotland,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44to be wintry over high ground.
0:02:44 > 0:02:45Some sleet and some snow
0:02:45 > 0:02:46over the hills and mountains,
0:02:46 > 0:02:49sunshine and showers quite generally across the country
0:02:49 > 0:02:52on what will be a chilly and a breezy day.
0:02:52 > 0:02:53So, the pressure pattern
0:02:53 > 0:02:55as we move out of Thursday into Friday
0:02:55 > 0:02:56looks like this. Low pressure drifting away
0:02:56 > 0:02:58and we're back to this area of high pressure,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00trying to muscle its way in,
0:03:00 > 0:03:03so probably a drier day to come on Friday
0:03:03 > 0:03:04and as we head into next weekend,
0:03:04 > 0:03:05the pattern continues.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07High pressure at times
0:03:07 > 0:03:09exerting its influence across the country
0:03:09 > 0:03:10and at other times,
0:03:10 > 0:03:11drifting off to the south-west,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13allowing areas of low pressure
0:03:13 > 0:03:14to move in from the north-west,
0:03:14 > 0:03:16bringing outbreaks of rain.
0:03:16 > 0:03:17The wettest weather will always be
0:03:17 > 0:03:19towards the north and the north-west,
0:03:19 > 0:03:21still cold enough for some snow
0:03:21 > 0:03:22over high ground in Scotland.
0:03:22 > 0:03:23Further south and east,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25not as much rain
0:03:25 > 0:03:26and a better chance of seeing drier weather.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28So, a bit of everything to come
0:03:28 > 0:03:29during the week ahead.
