0:00:02 > 0:00:04You may have to concentrate over the next three and a half minutes
0:00:04 > 0:00:07because there is an awful lot going on with our weather
0:00:07 > 0:00:10through the next seven to ten days - plenty of twists and turns,
0:00:10 > 0:00:12lots of changes on the way
0:00:12 > 0:00:14and, as we start off the new working week,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16a chilly start for many areas,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18particularly central and eastern areas
0:00:18 > 0:00:20under the influence of this ridge of high pressure.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22Frontal systems trying to muscle in
0:00:22 > 0:00:23from the north-west,
0:00:23 > 0:00:26but taking a time to work eastwards
0:00:26 > 0:00:28so really it'll only be north-west Scotland
0:00:28 > 0:00:30that seems some heavy rain during Monday,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32extra cloud and some patchy rain
0:00:32 > 0:00:34into other western areas.
0:00:34 > 0:00:35After a frosty start,
0:00:35 > 0:00:37any early fog clearing quickly
0:00:37 > 0:00:39and then some sunshine further east,
0:00:39 > 0:00:40but just 9 degrees in Norwich,
0:00:40 > 0:00:42temperatures creeping up
0:00:42 > 0:00:44a little bit there in Belfast
0:00:44 > 0:00:45and as we head through Monday night,
0:00:45 > 0:00:46our frontal system
0:00:46 > 0:00:48will eventually make some progress.
0:00:48 > 0:00:50Heavy rain sweeping through Northern Ireland,
0:00:50 > 0:00:51a good part of Scotland.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53Notice some of the rain turning to snow
0:00:53 > 0:00:54over the high ground in Scotland,
0:00:54 > 0:00:56western fringes of England and Wales
0:00:56 > 0:00:57and a significantly milder night,
0:00:57 > 0:01:00a significantly milder start to Tuesday morning.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02So, here's our frontal system, then,
0:01:02 > 0:01:03drifting eastwards.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Ahead of it, some pretty strong winds.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Behind it, some cold air tucking back in
0:01:07 > 0:01:09so, as I mentioned, some of the rain
0:01:09 > 0:01:11across the high ground of Scotland
0:01:11 > 0:01:12will turn to snow.
0:01:12 > 0:01:13This band of wet weather
0:01:13 > 0:01:15working quite erratically eastwards
0:01:15 > 0:01:17through the day on Tuesday.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19Windy ahead of it, lighter winds behind
0:01:19 > 0:01:21and with some sunshine returning,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23some showers into the west,
0:01:23 > 0:01:24hefty showers at that,
0:01:24 > 0:01:25but in western areas,
0:01:25 > 0:01:26it'll be cooling down again -
0:01:26 > 0:01:279 degrees in Belfast,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29perhaps getting up to 12 there in London.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32As we move through the middle part of the week,
0:01:32 > 0:01:34this little area of high pressure
0:01:34 > 0:01:37tries to have more of an influence on our weather
0:01:37 > 0:01:39so Wednesday is a window of quiet weather.
0:01:39 > 0:01:40Now, at this time of year,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43quiet weather often means frosty mornings
0:01:43 > 0:01:44and I think that's what we'll see
0:01:44 > 0:01:45on Wednesday morning.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47Could be some fog patches, too,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49but then a decent day with spells of sunshine
0:01:49 > 0:01:52before our next change pushes in from the west.
0:01:52 > 0:01:53Another frontal system
0:01:53 > 0:01:55drifting its way through,
0:01:55 > 0:01:56bringing some outbreaks of rain.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Now, there is some uncertainty
0:01:58 > 0:01:59about the timing of this,
0:01:59 > 0:02:00but it looks like this will be out of the way
0:02:00 > 0:02:03from most places by the start of Thursday morning.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06It will hang around in the south-east, we suspect,
0:02:06 > 0:02:07for a while and then as it clears,
0:02:07 > 0:02:09we're back to sunny skies.
0:02:09 > 0:02:10It will be windy, though,
0:02:10 > 0:02:11particularly in the north
0:02:11 > 0:02:13and there'll be a cool feel
0:02:13 > 0:02:14with temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees
0:02:14 > 0:02:16and some showers into the north-west.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Now, as we get into Friday,
0:02:18 > 0:02:19there is a lot of uncertainty
0:02:19 > 0:02:20by this stage, I have to say.
0:02:20 > 0:02:22High pressure will still be not too far away,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24but frontal systems again
0:02:24 > 0:02:25pushing in from the Atlantic.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27We could see outbreaks of rain
0:02:27 > 0:02:29just about anywhere on Friday,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31perhaps turning just a little bit milder
0:02:31 > 0:02:33down to the south, 13-14 degrees,
0:02:33 > 0:02:35but on the cool side across Northern Ireland,
0:02:35 > 0:02:37northern England and Scotland.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40So, that particular frontal system drifts away.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42We get the ridge of high pressure coming back
0:02:42 > 0:02:44so another quieter interlude
0:02:44 > 0:02:45and then Atlantic weather systems
0:02:45 > 0:02:47try to drift in again from the north-west
0:02:47 > 0:02:49and that is the pattern that takes us
0:02:49 > 0:02:51through the coming weekend and beyond.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53Areas of high pressure getting closer
0:02:53 > 0:02:55and then drifting further away
0:02:55 > 0:02:56and as the high drifts away,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58it allows low pressure systems
0:02:58 > 0:02:59to move in from the north-west.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01Now, when our unsettled weather
0:03:01 > 0:03:02is coming from the north-west,
0:03:02 > 0:03:03it will always be northern
0:03:03 > 0:03:05and western parts of the country
0:03:05 > 0:03:06that see the heaviest
0:03:06 > 0:03:07and most persistent rain.
0:03:07 > 0:03:08Further south and east,
0:03:08 > 0:03:09there'll be a bit of shelter
0:03:09 > 0:03:11so, yeah, there'll be some rain,
0:03:11 > 0:03:12but the rain not especially heavy
0:03:12 > 0:03:14for much of the time.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16And there is a chance that, at times,
0:03:16 > 0:03:17our area of high pressure
0:03:17 > 0:03:19will settle close to the British Isles
0:03:19 > 0:03:20for a little bit longer
0:03:20 > 0:03:21and if that happens,
0:03:21 > 0:03:23we will get some slightly longer,
0:03:23 > 0:03:24drier interludes. If that happens, though,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26we'll also see some frost and fog
0:03:26 > 0:03:30so a lot going on through the week ahead.
