0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. If you've been watching Weather For The Week Ahead

0:00:05 > 0:00:07you'll know I've been speaking about next week

0:00:07 > 0:00:09with a great deal of uncertainty. We're beginning to

0:00:09 > 0:00:12firm up our ideas and we'll come to that in due course.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16First of all, I speak with some certainty about Wednesday,

0:00:16 > 0:00:20where we're expecting to see quite a cold, frosty start to the day

0:00:20 > 0:00:22right through the heart of the British Isles.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Little bit further to the south and east, more cloud here overnight,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27the odd bit of rain through the day keeping the temperatures up.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30And away towards the north-west, eventually more cloud

0:00:30 > 0:00:33and wind and rain coming in from the Atlantic.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35But where we had that frosty start

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I think we'll keep much of that sunshine for much of the day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Not doing much for the temperatures,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42but a complete contrast to what many of you suffered

0:00:42 > 0:00:45during the course of Tuesday. Through Wednesday night,

0:00:45 > 0:00:49we'll just push those frontal systems ever-further

0:00:49 > 0:00:51towards the south and east.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53At least all of that cloud tied in with those fronts

0:00:53 > 0:00:55is going to help to keep the temperatures up,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58so there won't be any scraping of car windscreens

0:00:58 > 0:01:00as you start the new day on Thursday.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02There are those frontal systems. They'll take time

0:01:02 > 0:01:05to take their thickest cloud away towards the near Continent.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Notice the number of isobars there,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09particularly across the northern half of Scotland.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12That's going to be a gale of wind coming in from the west,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14so a relatively mild direction.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17And once the fronts have taken their rain away towards the near Continent

0:01:17 > 0:01:20nota bad day following on behind. Yes, there'll be some

0:01:20 > 0:01:22really blustery and squally showers across the north,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25but elsewhere, little bit of brightness come the afternoon.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Look at this. The temperatures in many locations

0:01:27 > 0:01:31will in fact be in double figures - not too bad for the time of year.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33So here we go into Friday.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Just notice those isobars beginning to clock around a little bit more

0:01:36 > 0:01:40towards the north-west, importing slightly fresher air,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42so a brighter day, perhaps, on Friday,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45but the temperatures beginning to suffer as a consequence,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48certainly across northern parts. And here that frontal system still

0:01:48 > 0:01:50lurking close by to the southern counties of England and Wales.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Overnight, this is a pulse of really tropical air

0:01:54 > 0:01:57coming down and across the southern counties of England and Wales,

0:01:57 > 0:02:01and that not a million miles away as we start the weekend.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04But many of us, for the bulk of the weekend,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06will be in something a good deal fresher than

0:02:06 > 0:02:08something coming from the Tropics, that's for sure.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12Because we'll end up with a north-westerly wind

0:02:12 > 0:02:15sweeping its way right down and across the country.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18So the weekend in a nutshell? Bright and breezy, certainly.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20There will be some showers in the mix,

0:02:20 > 0:02:24and it will feel decidedly colder than the middle part of the week,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27especially so on Sunday, and you'll see why in just a second.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30So here is Saturday. Still a fair amount of cloud close by

0:02:30 > 0:02:32to those frontal systems in the south.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35There, that cold north-westerly just screaming its way

0:02:35 > 0:02:38down across central and eastern parts of the British Isles.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Again, notice the number of isobars there.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43But the high pressure just toppling in from the Atlantic,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46tending to settle things in the west.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49I think it's going to be a really blustery, raw sort of day

0:02:49 > 0:02:51through the Northern Isles, down the east coast

0:02:51 > 0:02:53and across the rigs as well. Look at that -

0:02:53 > 0:02:57top temperatures on the day, despite the sunshine, 7, 8 or 9 degrees.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59As we get into the start of next week,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01the major players are beginning to show their hand.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04This high pressure is going to try to dominate the British Isles

0:03:04 > 0:03:08but not quite doing enough to keep those frontal systems at bay.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Sometimes they'll be tied in with the low-pressure systems

0:03:11 > 0:03:13which will try and come in towards the British Isles,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16but the high will be doing its stuff

0:03:16 > 0:03:19keeping those lows primarily towards northern parts of the British Isles

0:03:19 > 0:03:22where we're going to see the bulk of the unsettled weather.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Further south, not wall-to-wall sunshine,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but much more settled fare

0:03:26 > 0:03:28and maybe some chilly nights to come. Goodnight.
