0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. Cold air is across the UK. Milder air fights back next week.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08In the battle between the two there could be a wintry flavour to

0:00:08 > 0:00:11things for some, especially in Scotland, as we'll see in a moment.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13For Friday in Scotland, it was sunshine

0:00:13 > 0:00:15but also some heavy showers.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17The best of the blue sky was in southern England, but for the

0:00:17 > 0:00:20start of the weekend we're going to flip things around a bit.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23It is Scotland that'll see the best of the sunshine,

0:00:23 > 0:00:24though a chilly breeze.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27This weather front, extending down towards the south of the UK,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30will bring cloud and patchy rain. Let's take a look at things, then.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33A touch of frost for some to begin the day, a few early showers

0:00:33 > 0:00:36in northern England, but the sun comes out for the afternoon.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Lots of sunshine in Scotland, a few blustery showers in the north,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41mainly dry but rather cloudy in Northern Ireland.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44The rest of England and Wales will see increasing cloud,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46some patchy rain, not amounting to too much,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48perhaps a little bit less chilly, technically,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50in parts of Wales and south-west England, but then again,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53because it's cloudy it's still going to feel quite cold.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Now, this cloud and rain just retreats to the far

0:00:56 > 0:00:59south-west of England on through Saturday night, allowing clear skies

0:00:59 > 0:01:03to spread in across much of the UK, and that means another frost setting

0:01:03 > 0:01:05in for Sunday morning. It could be quite a sharp frost in places.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08But you know what that means. Get off to a frosty start

0:01:08 > 0:01:12but then there's sunshine to come across Scotland, northern England,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15much of the Midlands down through East Anglia and into the south-east.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17For Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west of England

0:01:17 > 0:01:19on Sunday, here we've got cloud,

0:01:19 > 0:01:23some patchy rain, and it's trying to feed its way north-eastwards.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26It doesn't make much progress during the day,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29but after the cold start, even though there's some sunshine,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31those temperatures are struggling once again.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34But as we go into Monday, we take the cloud and rain,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37push it north-eastwards, but into that colder air,

0:01:37 > 0:01:41just showing up, you can see there's a hint of snow being a possibility

0:01:41 > 0:01:45as the moisture reaches into the colder air in Scotland on Monday,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48especially to hills, but there's a risk of some to lower

0:01:48 > 0:01:52levels in some spots, so do keep on checking the forecast.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55So a messy picture in Scotland for Monday, some rain, some snow,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56another cold day.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59But you can see for England, for Wales, for Northern Ireland, that

0:01:59 > 0:02:04milder air moving in but with plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06The weather has another go at getting rid of the cold

0:02:06 > 0:02:08air from Scotland on Tuesday,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11bringing another band of rain from the south-west,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14travelling north-east, but again Tuesday into Wednesday, Tuesday

0:02:14 > 0:02:17night into Wednesday, meeting the colder air in Scotland.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21We could see some snow, especially to higher ground, out of that.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23But it looks as if this latest weather system

0:02:23 > 0:02:27for Wednesday will have some success in taking eventually

0:02:27 > 0:02:29the milder air in across Scotland,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32so we should be just about all into that during Wednesday.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35A heavier band of rain coming in from the west, spreading south-east,

0:02:35 > 0:02:39and stronger winds with gales in places on Wednesday, as well.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41And that's the set-up for the second half of the week,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44low pressure to the north-west, high pressure to the south-east,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47and a mild flow of air coming in across the UK.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50So, these are the details, then, for next week's weather.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53We've established that it will be turning milder

0:02:53 > 0:02:55because of the flow of air around these pressure systems.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59But that milder flow will be bringing in lots of cloud,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01will be bringing in some outbreaks of rain at times,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03but not just rain - a risk,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05especially during the first half of the week,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07as the moisture meets the colder air in Scotland,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10of getting some snow, perhaps not just on the hills.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11As we go into the following weekend,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13there's still this battle taking place.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Yes, there may be mild air across much of the UK,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19but look at the blues lurking to the north.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23Now, eventually the colder air is going to start to move south again.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26It's just a question of when, and of course, that's what we'll keep

0:03:26 > 0:03:29an eye on for you on the Weather For The Week Ahead.
