0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, thanks for joining me.
0:00:03 > 0:00:06Time to have a look at the weather for the next few days,
0:00:06 > 0:00:07and, in the short term,
0:00:07 > 0:00:10I think Jack Frost is going to pay us a visit.
0:00:10 > 0:00:11The skies will be clearing
0:00:11 > 0:00:13through the course of Saturday night into Sunday,
0:00:13 > 0:00:17and Sunday morning is going to start off pretty nippy
0:00:17 > 0:00:18right across the UK.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20So, through the early hours,
0:00:20 > 0:00:21the skies are going to be clearing
0:00:21 > 0:00:22across most of the country,
0:00:22 > 0:00:24and, in the south,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26where we had all the cloud and drizzle and mist and murk,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28well, things will turn a lot clearer.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30So, even in the south,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32temperatures will be close to freezing
0:00:32 > 0:00:33first thing on Sunday morning.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35The far south-west, here, a bit milder.
0:00:35 > 0:00:36For example, in Plymouth,
0:00:36 > 0:00:38no lower than around 4 degrees -
0:00:38 > 0:00:41but, as I say, most of us will be waking up to chilly conditions.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43So, this is what it looks like
0:00:43 > 0:00:44first thing in the morning,
0:00:44 > 0:00:45around nine o'clock.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47Beautiful weather, there, in the Lowlands,
0:00:47 > 0:00:48but it will be cold,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50around one degree above freezing.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52Five degrees, there, for Belfast,
0:00:52 > 0:00:54and, throughout much of England and Wales,
0:00:54 > 0:00:57a beautiful but crisp start to the day,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59and a touch of frost, as well, in some areas -
0:00:59 > 0:01:01but not the south-west of the country, here.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03In fact, this is where the weather
0:01:03 > 0:01:04starts to turn, at this stage.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06we'll see a shift in the wind direction,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08the south-westerlies will start approaching
0:01:08 > 0:01:11and pushing in thicker cloud off the Atlantic
0:01:11 > 0:01:13and also little bits and pieces of rain,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15but I think most of daylight hours, at least,
0:01:15 > 0:01:16across the UK, will be dry
0:01:16 > 0:01:18and, certainly, eastern areas
0:01:18 > 0:01:20will hang on to the clear weather
0:01:20 > 0:01:22right through the course of the day
0:01:22 > 0:01:23until sunset.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25So, I think Sunday evening
0:01:25 > 0:01:27is looking clear and chilly across the east,
0:01:27 > 0:01:28but, in the west,
0:01:28 > 0:01:30yet another weather front moves in,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32and it will turn damp in places like Belfast -
0:01:32 > 0:01:35and that's a hint of things to come for Monday.
0:01:35 > 0:01:36A low pressure right across the UK,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38with the heaviest of the rain
0:01:38 > 0:01:40in the north of the country.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41In the south,
0:01:41 > 0:01:43we have those south-westerly winds,
0:01:43 > 0:01:44and look at those temperatures,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46possibly getting up to around about 14 degrees -
0:01:46 > 0:01:48and I think the rain will come and go
0:01:48 > 0:01:49through the course of Monday,
0:01:49 > 0:01:51and then it will return again,
0:01:51 > 0:01:52Monday into Tuesday,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54with yet another low-pressure moving in,
0:01:54 > 0:01:55and this time, that low
0:01:55 > 0:01:57is moving right into the heart of the UK,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59right into the middle part of the British Isles,
0:01:59 > 0:02:01so, this is where the heaviest of the rain could be,
0:02:01 > 0:02:02say, around the Lake District
0:02:02 > 0:02:03straight into the Pennines.
0:02:03 > 0:02:04To the south,
0:02:04 > 0:02:06the south-westerlies drag in the milder air,
0:02:06 > 0:02:07but look at the north -
0:02:07 > 0:02:09we've got northerly winds here,
0:02:09 > 0:02:10so, just that little bit colder,
0:02:10 > 0:02:12and a very similar pattern on Wednesday, as well.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15So, the UK is very much split in half.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17In the south, which is often the case,
0:02:17 > 0:02:19it's going to be a lot milder,
0:02:19 > 0:02:21with south-westerly winds.
0:02:21 > 0:02:22Central parts of the UK
0:02:22 > 0:02:24will have that weather front sliding through,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26so, this is where we're likely to see
0:02:26 > 0:02:27the heavier rain, and then, in the north,
0:02:27 > 0:02:30we see the air's coming from a different direction,
0:02:30 > 0:02:31so it's colder.
0:02:31 > 0:02:32Temperatures in Scotland, there, 7 degrees,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34and it's just about cold enough
0:02:34 > 0:02:35for some mountain snow.
0:02:35 > 0:02:36So, that's Wednesday.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38Pretty messy across the UK
0:02:38 > 0:02:40both Tuesday and Wednesday.
0:02:40 > 0:02:41Come Thursday and Friday,
0:02:41 > 0:02:43there is a shift in the weather,
0:02:43 > 0:02:45a more substantial shift.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47This big area of low pressure
0:02:47 > 0:02:48brings unsettled weather,
0:02:48 > 0:02:49and, then, as it pulls away -
0:02:49 > 0:02:51remember, winds blow around
0:02:51 > 0:02:53the low-pressure like so,
0:02:53 > 0:02:55it drags in colder air from the north,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57so, there will be a surge of colder weather
0:02:57 > 0:02:59approaching the British Isles
0:02:59 > 0:03:00by the time we get to Friday,
0:03:00 > 0:03:01and then, quite possibly,
0:03:01 > 0:03:02through the weekend,
0:03:02 > 0:03:03that colder air
0:03:03 > 0:03:05even marches into the continent.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07Just how cold it's going to get,
0:03:07 > 0:03:08too early to say,
0:03:08 > 0:03:11but cold enough for thick coats and gloves -
0:03:11 > 0:03:12especially if you live
0:03:12 > 0:03:13across northern parts of the UK.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15Could be quite a strong wind blowing
0:03:15 > 0:03:16out of the north, as well.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18So, quite a lot happening on the weather front.
0:03:18 > 0:03:19Let's summarise that.
0:03:19 > 0:03:20A mild week ahead
0:03:20 > 0:03:21with some rain at times
0:03:21 > 0:03:23and then, towards the end of the week,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25into the weekend, looks like we'll see
0:03:25 > 0:03:26a surge of colder weather coming in
0:03:26 > 0:03:28all the way from the Arctic.
