0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Where our air is coming from governs to a large degree
0:00:04 > 0:00:08the sort of weather we get, but also the temperature,
0:00:08 > 0:00:09the feel of the weather.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11Now, for Monday there was a lot of cloud around
0:00:11 > 0:00:14but those areas that saw a bit of blue sky
0:00:14 > 0:00:17saw temperatures well above normal for the time of year -
0:00:17 > 0:00:20Cheshire up to 17 Celsius
0:00:20 > 0:00:24where 8 or 9 degrees is average for this stage of November.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27And the reason why - where the air is coming from,
0:00:27 > 0:00:30around low pressure, following the isobars all the way
0:00:30 > 0:00:33well to the south of the UK. Any time of year that is
0:00:33 > 0:00:37a warm direction. This is unusually mild air for the time
0:00:37 > 0:00:40of year. Spreading northwards, yet to reach into northern
0:00:40 > 0:00:43Scotland, but during Tuesday, even here temperatures will
0:00:43 > 0:00:46be heading up. It will be a wet day, mind you,
0:00:46 > 0:00:48but the snow we've had in the hills gradually turning
0:00:48 > 0:00:49back to rain.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52There is a lot of cloud with this moist flow of air
0:00:52 > 0:00:54from the south-west so, again, sunshine will be
0:00:54 > 0:00:58hard to come by but those areas that do see a few funny spells
0:00:58 > 0:01:01across parts of England and Wales may well end with temperatures
0:01:01 > 0:01:03higher than this, though we will see outbreaks of rain
0:01:03 > 0:01:05pushing in to parts of Wales and western England
0:01:05 > 0:01:09into the afternoon, feeding a little bit further south-east during
0:01:09 > 0:01:11Tuesday evening. Low pressure is in charge,
0:01:11 > 0:01:14plenty of weather fronts, the winds picking up as well.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17We are concerned going into Wednesday again in this
0:01:17 > 0:01:20flow of mild, moist air from the south-west, this wriggling
0:01:20 > 0:01:23weather front producing a bit of rain, especially into
0:01:23 > 0:01:26parts of north-west England during Wednesday, especially
0:01:26 > 0:01:30into Cumbria, Lancashire, 25-50ml possible, maybe up
0:01:30 > 0:01:33to 100 in the hills. Need to watch out for impact from that.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36The winds picking up and rain also across parts of Wales,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38western England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41But central and eastern parts of England staying
0:01:41 > 0:01:43mainly dry, getting a bit of sunshine, and again we
0:01:43 > 0:01:46could see 16 or 17 degrees.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49But look at this - going into Thursday there's a cold front
0:01:49 > 0:01:52moving southwards and we're changing the direction
0:01:52 > 0:01:55of the isobars more to a north, north-westerly direction.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58What does that mean? Well, colder air coming back in
0:01:58 > 0:02:01to Scotland and Northern Ireland but something drier and
0:02:01 > 0:02:04brighter with that flow of air, still perhaps mild
0:02:04 > 0:02:06for one more day across southern parts, with still some
0:02:06 > 0:02:09outbreaks of rain as that front pushes on through.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12So at the end of the week it looks like colder air is
0:02:12 > 0:02:16beginning to move its way southwards once again and as we go
0:02:16 > 0:02:18into the weekend it looks like it will have completed
0:02:18 > 0:02:21its journey southwards. It will be a brisk and chilly wind
0:02:21 > 0:02:24from the north, north-west. In that flow of air
0:02:24 > 0:02:26we've brightened things up, we get sunny spells
0:02:26 > 0:02:28but there will be some wintry showers
0:02:28 > 0:02:31and maybe something less cold from the Atlantic
0:02:31 > 0:02:33coming in right at the end of the weekend, at least
0:02:33 > 0:02:34into western parts.
0:02:34 > 0:02:38So the weekend looks like a cold start, probably cold throughout
0:02:38 > 0:02:41with frosty nights and a risk of wintry showers,
0:02:41 > 0:02:44but a hint of something a little less cold coming in from the
0:02:44 > 0:02:48Atlantic again, at least into western parts later in the weekend.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51And then into the following week,
0:02:51 > 0:02:55it looks like we are still battle zone Britain
0:02:55 > 0:02:59with milder Atlantic air fighting with this colder air from the north
0:02:59 > 0:03:02for supremacy and it looks like we're going to swing between the two
0:03:02 > 0:03:04as we go through the week.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07Now, when the colder air from the north, north-west comes in
0:03:07 > 0:03:10it will likely be brighter but of course colder and frosty
0:03:10 > 0:03:12and there will be a risk of wintry showers.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14In the milder spells, where the
0:03:14 > 0:03:18Atlantic pushes that air in from the west, we may see some rain at times.
0:03:18 > 0:03:22But even in the milder spells the Atlantic flow next week,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24it looks like it's not going to be as wet
0:03:24 > 0:03:27or as windy as it is at times this week, nor as mild.
0:03:27 > 0:03:28So 16, 17 Celsius,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30short-term offer.
