0:00:02 > 0:00:05Snow, there I said it. There's no going back now.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07More of us will have seen our first snow of the season

0:00:07 > 0:00:09by the weekend even if it is

0:00:09 > 0:00:12in a passing wintry shower.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14We have mild air across us now

0:00:14 > 0:00:17but by the end of the week that will have gone.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Last to clear from southernmost parts of the UK.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Tries to cling on even into Friday.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23But by Saturday it will have been

0:00:23 > 0:00:25pushed south away from us

0:00:25 > 0:00:28as the cold air comes back, coldest air of the season so far

0:00:28 > 0:00:31and a strong wind as well with those wintry showers.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34More about what we can expect coming up.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Right now it's the mild air across us and we're more concerned

0:00:37 > 0:00:40in the short term about rain and strengthening winds

0:00:40 > 0:00:42during Wednesday as we see these

0:00:42 > 0:00:44frontal systems coming into the UK.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Looks like the heaviest rain will be effecting parts of north Wales,

0:00:47 > 0:00:51north-west England and into southern Scotland.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Maybe up to 100mm of rain and gales developing into England and Wales,

0:00:55 > 0:00:59gusts widely around 50mph late in the day and into Wednesday night.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02It's the sort of day when you head out in the morning it may seem

0:01:02 > 0:01:06fine but there could be some travel disruption as you come home.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Parts of eastern England will stay dry.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Even see some sunshine and be very mild but even here it becomes very

0:01:11 > 0:01:13windy and stays that way Wednesday

0:01:13 > 0:01:15night and into Thursday morning.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19During Thursday winds ease but look at this, snow.

0:01:19 > 0:01:20Northern Scotland, the colder air

0:01:20 > 0:01:22coming back in, even to low

0:01:22 > 0:01:25levels we could see accumulating snow on Thursday morning.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Much more coming down on hills

0:01:27 > 0:01:30so keep up to date with that part of the forecast.

0:01:30 > 0:01:35Generally turning drier on Thursday, even some sunshine around,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37still very mild to the south and south-east.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Colder air is beginning to filter in but there's

0:01:40 > 0:01:43a fly in the ointment that stops it reaching southern

0:01:43 > 0:01:45parts on Friday, this area of low pressure.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47But a lot of uncertainty about

0:01:47 > 0:01:49where the rain from this will be.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51It could look like this on Friday,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53it may be further south, this rain,

0:01:53 > 0:01:57but parts of southern England run the risk of seeing heavy rain

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Friday into Friday night before that pulls away.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Scotland and Northern Ireland will see sunny spells,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03maybe a few showers.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Once this latest system is gone it's then that the cold air completes

0:02:07 > 0:02:10its journey southwards across the UK at the start of the weekend.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13The cold feel enhanced by a strong wind.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14There will be some good sunny

0:02:14 > 0:02:16spells around but there will be these

0:02:16 > 0:02:19wintry showers, especially northern and western parts of the UK.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Wintry showers, what does that mean?

0:02:21 > 0:02:24There may be some rain but we're more likely to get sleet,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28hail or snow out of these showers as they move on through.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29A similar picture into Sunday,

0:02:29 > 0:02:33showers may ease in the west later in the day.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Over the weekend more of us will see our first snow of the season.

0:02:36 > 0:02:37For many, non-disruptive,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39just a passing wintry shower.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41But into the hills and mountains, we are

0:02:41 > 0:02:46going to some accumulating snow in places as these showers move

0:02:46 > 0:02:50through, particularly if one comes after another, after another.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53We're starting with the cold air in place

0:02:53 > 0:02:54but we're going to try to bring

0:02:54 > 0:02:56a less cold Atlantic weather system

0:02:56 > 0:02:58in but again it's a cold air that

0:02:58 > 0:03:00could bring a risk of some snow.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Although Atlantic weather systems

0:03:02 > 0:03:03may try to come in next week

0:03:03 > 0:03:06it looks like overall the cold air will always come back once

0:03:06 > 0:03:09they've moved through keeping a mainly cold theme.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Brief milder interludes with these Atlantic weather systems.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16Bringing some rain perhaps but also a risk of snow as they move in to

0:03:16 > 0:03:20cold air and then as they pull away with the cold air following behind.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23That's how next week is shaping up.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Winter is coming although apparently it happens every year

0:03:26 > 0:03:28so it may not be breaking news.
