0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello again. Cold weather is going to dominate over the week ahead.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07Now, earlier on in the week, we had flooding in Cumbria,

0:00:07 > 0:00:11for example, a lot of rain around, but this was Friday

0:00:11 > 0:00:16morning in Ambleside - not rain but snow and some ice around, too.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20And cold winds are strengthening during Saturday,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23blowing more of these wintry showers not just into Western Scotland

0:00:23 > 0:00:26and Northern Ireland but perhaps into western parts of England

0:00:26 > 0:00:29and Wales, a few showers getting into the Midlands, too.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Snow more likely over the hills.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35But it will feel cold. The winds will be stronger on Saturday,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38and those temperatures, this is what it will feel like,

0:00:38 > 0:00:41close to freezing there across the northern half of the UK,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44where it remains windy, it remains showery.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47There's a continued risk of some icy patches around, too.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51The showers do tend to ease down overnight, the winds tend to get

0:00:51 > 0:00:54a little more westerly, temperatures perhaps not quite

0:00:54 > 0:00:57so low by Sunday morning, but there's still the risk of a frost,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59particularly in the countryside.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02And as we run through the day, you can see we've got a line of showers

0:01:02 > 0:01:05on Sunday over the Irish Sea into Lancashire,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08possibly Cumbria, all the way into the north Midlands,

0:01:08 > 0:01:12but fewer showers, on the whole, more places will be dry,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14sunshine across the eastern side of the UK.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17But out to the west, cloud will be increasing, and after that

0:01:17 > 0:01:21chilly start, it means temperatures will be slow to rise during the day.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24And the cloud is coming in ahead of that weather system there.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27This is a bit of a change as we move into Monday.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31That weather system moving down across the UK will sweep rain

0:01:31 > 0:01:35south-eastwards across all areas overnight, a wet start,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37still, on Monday morning across southern England.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39It may take a while for the rain to clear the south-east.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42But it does clear away from other areas,

0:01:42 > 0:01:46with a westerly wind following on from that and sunshine and showers.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Now, we're going to find things changing

0:01:48 > 0:01:50again as we move into Tuesday.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53That little weather feature there could bring some showers

0:01:53 > 0:01:56overnight and keep a bit of rain going in the south-east

0:01:56 > 0:01:59on Tuesday, but after that clears through, you can see where the

0:01:59 > 0:02:01winds are coming from, all the way from the north once again.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04That means it's going to be turning colder,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06those temperatures dropping away, and we'll start to see

0:02:06 > 0:02:10the showers in the north turning wintry once again.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13So, as we run into Tuesday from Wednesday, we've got

0:02:13 > 0:02:15high pressure out towards the west,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17low pressure in the east across Europe.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20That means - you can see the isobars there running north to south -

0:02:20 > 0:02:22the winds coming down from the north.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25A slight change in the wind direction is going to change

0:02:25 > 0:02:27the pattern of the showers.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29It looks like we're going to find more showers this

0:02:29 > 0:02:31time down the eastern side of both England

0:02:31 > 0:02:33and Scotland, coming in off the North Sea.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35This is where we'll have the strongest winds.

0:02:35 > 0:02:36There could be some winteriness,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38particularly in the North York Moors.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41And that's a similar pattern, really, for Thursday, I suspect,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44although we may see some of these showers coming down

0:02:44 > 0:02:48and clipping Pembrokeshire and possibly into Devon and Cornwall.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50But temperatures on the low side.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52So, what's happening? Well, as we look further ahead,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55it looks like we're going to keep this cold air plunging down

0:02:55 > 0:02:59across the UK with northerly winds. Mild air is not far away.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02It comes in the shape of an area of high pressure

0:03:02 > 0:03:04and the Atlantic winds behind it.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07That high pressure is blocking off any movement,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10though. Possibly later next weekend that high pressure may get

0:03:10 > 0:03:13a little closer to the UK, but really, ahead of that,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and if that does happen, we're still going to find northerly winds,

0:03:16 > 0:03:20it's still going to be cold - not exceptionally cold, nothing unusual.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22There'll be wintry showers, more of them

0:03:22 > 0:03:23down the eastern side of the UK,

0:03:23 > 0:03:27but once again not just cold by day - there's a risk of frost at night.
