0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. It's time for our extended look at the weather,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07and we're still going to be talking about a lot of cold air.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10But in the short term, actually, we do have something a little

0:00:10 > 0:00:12milder running its way across the British Isles.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15It is relative, but nonetheless

0:00:15 > 0:00:18this weather system will mean a frost-free night

0:00:18 > 0:00:20and a very different-looking start to Monday after

0:00:20 > 0:00:22the days of blue sky and sunshine through the weekend - wet

0:00:22 > 0:00:26and windy conditions, particularly to the south first thing.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Brightening behind that weather front into a mixture of sunshine

0:00:29 > 0:00:32and showers for Monday daytime, a westerly or north-westerly wind, so

0:00:32 > 0:00:35just feeling that little bit milder

0:00:35 > 0:00:38than the northerly we've had through the weekend.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Still, though, a chance of some wintry showers across Scotland

0:00:41 > 0:00:43and perhaps a few for the Welsh mountains.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45The mild air, though, short-lived.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Once that weather system gets away to the south,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50we yet again open the floodgates to let the air in from the Arctic,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53and that's where we're going to keep feeding our air in from

0:00:53 > 0:00:56for this week, basically. So, here's Tuesday.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58A frosty start, a cold wind,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01particularly along our North Sea coast,

0:01:01 > 0:01:04and wintry showers I think particularly across the North York

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Moors, also across the Highlands and the Grampians again.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Can't rule out some for Pembrokeshire

0:01:08 > 0:01:11and the south-west of England, either.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14A lot of sunshine around, though, for the majority, but a cold feel,

0:01:14 > 0:01:19highs of five to seven, feeling lower than that thanks to the wind.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22And through Tuesday into Wednesday, we keep this area of high pressure

0:01:22 > 0:01:23to the west, the low to the east,

0:01:23 > 0:01:27and it's just the slight shifts in orientation in the next few

0:01:27 > 0:01:30days that will govern where we get the strongest of the winds

0:01:30 > 0:01:31and the real focus of the showers.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35For Wednesday, again it looks like it'll be the east coast that picks

0:01:35 > 0:01:39up the lion's share of the showers, perhaps a little drier further west.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41Still a lot of sunshine around on the whole,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43but again another chilly day.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47And then we go into another chilly night Wednesday into Thursday.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Just keeping a close eye on the North Sea -

0:01:49 > 0:01:52we may see a little area of low pressure developing in here, and

0:01:52 > 0:01:54that could mean some particularly strong

0:01:54 > 0:01:57winds across the eastern side of England on Thursday

0:01:57 > 0:02:01and a real focus of showers across Lincolnshire and into East Anglia.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Still a chance, though, of some for Pembrokeshire and the south-west,

0:02:04 > 0:02:09too, but again we're still dominated by a lot of fine if chilly weather.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12A subtle change Thursday into Friday. Watch closely.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14This area of high pressure just tips a little bit

0:02:14 > 0:02:18more across the British Isles and starts to introduce this front, and

0:02:18 > 0:02:21that really not bringing anything in the way of meaningful rain,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24I think, on Friday, but it will mean a lot more cloud

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and perhaps some just slightly less cold air arriving,

0:02:27 > 0:02:31the wind coming just slightly more from a north-westerly direction.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Temperatures, though, still six, seven, eight degrees,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35so it's more about the way it'll feel, really,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38than how things will significantly change.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41For the weekend, the high does, though, push its way a little bit

0:02:41 > 0:02:44further eastwards once again, and we do start to pull in some

0:02:44 > 0:02:47slightly milder air. Again, it is all relative.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50But next weekend looks like we will see our temperatures coming up,

0:02:50 > 0:02:54if only briefly, thanks to that high shifting further south

0:02:54 > 0:02:58and allowing us to feed the air in basically via the Atlantic

0:02:58 > 0:03:00and then in from the north, so it will, as I said, be

0:03:00 > 0:03:04relatively mild in comparison to the cold Arctic air we've had recently.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07But then on into the following week, high pressure comes north again,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09the low tucks into the east and it looks like we'll be

0:03:09 > 0:03:13back into that northerly air stream and back where we started.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16So in terms of the longer-term outlook,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18for next weekend I think something a little bit milder than

0:03:18 > 0:03:21the week ahead, but then the return of Arctic air,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24and it is going to feel particularly cold thanks to the biting wind.
