0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. Monday is likely to be the mildest day of the week ahead.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08Colder air is going to return, and in the longer term,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12it is going to be the position of the jet stream that will be crucial.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14What we're seeing now is the milder westerlies being

0:00:14 > 0:00:16replaced by colder northerlies.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19High pressured the west, low pressure to the east

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and those northerly winds bringing down some showers.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24A lot of showers to come for Northern Ireland, West Wales

0:00:24 > 0:00:25and the south-west of England.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Wintry showers again for northern Scotland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Initially, showers around coastal areas of north-east England.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33As the wind picks up, we blow them further inland

0:00:33 > 0:00:35all the way down to the Midlands and across East Anglia.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37If you don't get a shower,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40you will certainly see more cloud around and it will feel cold.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Temperatures on Tuesday lower than they were on Monday,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45so 5 to 8 degrees fairly typically

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and feeling cold in the wind as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51So we're now starting to see this colder air returning

0:00:51 > 0:00:53much as it did last week.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55So the milder air that we had on Monday was just a blip,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57if you like.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00That colder air and northerly winds will be pushing back in again.

0:01:00 > 0:01:04Particularly windy down the eastern side of England and Scotland.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06That's where we'll see most of the showers, most of the cloud.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Further west, fewer showers on Wednesday

0:01:08 > 0:01:11for Northern Ireland, west Wales and the south-west.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Still a few wintry ones continuing across Scotland.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Most of the snow will be over the hills in Scotland,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but those temperatures - 3 to 7 degrees.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21So another cold day, especially in the wind.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24But, again, many inland areas dry with some sunshine.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27High pressure then to the west, low pressure to the east.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29You can see the isobars, the tramlines

0:01:29 > 0:01:31and those winds coming all the way down

0:01:31 > 0:01:33from a chilly northerly direction.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Actually on Thursday, the weather very similar to that of Wednesday.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40So still a few showers across these western exposures

0:01:40 > 0:01:43but more showers down the eastern coastal areas of England.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Temperatures 3 to 5 degrees Thursday,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47likely to be the coldest day

0:01:47 > 0:01:49of the week ahead.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52What we start to see on Thursday into Friday,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54around the top of this area of high pressure,

0:01:54 > 0:01:58signs of a bit more cloud beginning to topple down from the north-west.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00That weather front, a warm front, rather weak.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Now, the coldest air still across this corner of the UK towards

0:02:03 > 0:02:05East Anglia and the south-east, Lincolnshire too.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08That's where they'll still be a chilly wind and maybe a few showers.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Head further north-west, those temperatures slowly picking

0:02:11 > 0:02:13up a bit, but there will be more cloud around.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Still another chilly day on Friday.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17That weak weather front, that warm front continues

0:02:17 > 0:02:20to topple down around that area of high pressure.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22What it does, it brings in more cloud,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24it brings down some milder air.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26This is Atlantic air that's come around the top of

0:02:26 > 0:02:29the high pressure and that is moving down across the UK.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32So more cloud, quite low cloud, a bit of rain and drizzle around too.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35No great amounts, but those temperatures will be higher,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38maybe getting 10 degrees in Belfast on Saturday.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Almost unheard of.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Now, I talked about the jet stream.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44This is what we're seeing over the weekend -

0:02:44 > 0:02:46the jet stream to the north of us then diving

0:02:46 > 0:02:48down into Central Europe

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and this is where the colder air is getting pushed.

0:02:50 > 0:02:55So, across the UK, over the weekend we are seeing milder air coming in.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59But it may only be briefly because, as we move into next week,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02the position of the jet stream changes.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05You can see those winds there are digging down towards the UK

0:03:05 > 0:03:07and this is where the colder air is going to be.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Big fluctuations in that jet stream.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Milder air across the Atlantic, colder air in the UK.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15So northerly wind returns into next week.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17That means more sunshine and showers.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Quite a few showers down the eastern side of the UK.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21This is probably where it's going to feel coldest of all

0:03:21 > 0:03:23with the winds off the North Sea.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25But with clear skies overnight, we're going to find those

0:03:25 > 0:03:29night frosts becoming widespread once again. Goodbye.
