0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. For the past few days we've seen temperatures dropping
0:00:04 > 0:00:06day on age and night on night,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09but it's not going to be that way for too much longer.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11What we're seeing at the moment, though,
0:00:11 > 0:00:14high-pressure out to the west, low pressure to the east,
0:00:14 > 0:00:17and the cold air coming down on a northerly wind
0:00:17 > 0:00:20and that cold air is getting colder and colder
0:00:20 > 0:00:21right now, so we've got
0:00:21 > 0:00:23a widespread frost on Thursday,
0:00:23 > 0:00:26but for most places, a dry and sunny day.
0:00:26 > 0:00:27Showers Northern Ireland,
0:00:27 > 0:00:28westernmost parts of Wales,
0:00:28 > 0:00:30far south-west of England.
0:00:30 > 0:00:31Most of the wintry showers
0:00:31 > 0:00:33driven on by a strong and cold wind
0:00:33 > 0:00:35across easternmost parts of England
0:00:35 > 0:00:37and eastern Scotland.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Those temperatures in the afternoon
0:00:39 > 0:00:413 to 5 degrees typically,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43so it will be a cold day.
0:00:43 > 0:00:44So we're drawing down the colder air,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46we've got the clearer skies
0:00:46 > 0:00:49and we're going to have more frost round on Friday morning.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51Again, temperatures in rural areas
0:00:51 > 0:00:53could be down to about -6 or so.
0:00:53 > 0:00:54More wintry showers
0:00:54 > 0:00:56for eastern parts of England,
0:00:56 > 0:00:58even a few in the south-east of England,
0:00:58 > 0:00:59before they fade away.
0:00:59 > 0:01:00Still got the sunshine
0:01:00 > 0:01:02across much of England and Wales,
0:01:02 > 0:01:03but coming into the north-west,
0:01:03 > 0:01:06coming into Scotland and Northern Ireland,
0:01:06 > 0:01:07the wind direction is changing.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08More cloud is arriving
0:01:08 > 0:01:10and perhaps a little bit of rain
0:01:10 > 0:01:11and eventually that will start
0:01:11 > 0:01:12to lift the temperatures
0:01:12 > 0:01:14but Friday still
0:01:14 > 0:01:15another cold day.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17However, as we head into the weekend,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19we've still got high pressure out to the west
0:01:19 > 0:01:22but it's receding a little bit
0:01:22 > 0:01:23and we're allowing air to come in
0:01:23 > 0:01:25from the Atlantic around the top
0:01:25 > 0:01:26of that high pressure
0:01:26 > 0:01:28and push its way down into the UK,
0:01:28 > 0:01:29so the really colder air
0:01:29 > 0:01:32is limited more to the south-east on Saturday
0:01:32 > 0:01:33and then it gets pushed
0:01:33 > 0:01:34into the near continent,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37as milder Atlantic winds slowly arrive
0:01:37 > 0:01:39and it is quite slowly.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41The temperatures will be slow to rise.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43They'll be a lot more cloud around on Saturday,
0:01:43 > 0:01:44pretty much across the board.
0:01:44 > 0:01:46Those temperatures 6, 7,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48perhaps even 8 degrees or so.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51Most places will be dry but rather cloudy.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53And on Sunday, we've still got
0:01:53 > 0:01:55cloudy skies for many places.
0:01:55 > 0:01:56A little bit of rain this time
0:01:56 > 0:01:58pushing southwards into England
0:01:58 > 0:02:00and Wales but boosting the temperatures.
0:02:00 > 0:02:01It won't be as cold overnight
0:02:01 > 0:02:03and by day, we could get temperatures
0:02:03 > 0:02:05of 10 or 11 degrees.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07There's the high pressure still
0:02:07 > 0:02:09and we're still feeding around the top of that
0:02:09 > 0:02:11this Atlantic air.
0:02:11 > 0:02:12A couple of weather fronts on the scene
0:02:12 > 0:02:14but weakening all the while,
0:02:14 > 0:02:15most of the rain sitting really
0:02:15 > 0:02:17probably to the north of Scotland, so,
0:02:17 > 0:02:18again, more westerly breezes
0:02:18 > 0:02:20across the northern half of the UK,
0:02:20 > 0:02:21light winds further the south,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23so it could get a little bit chilly overnight
0:02:23 > 0:02:25depending on whether the cloud breaks or not.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28But, on the whole, cloudy skies and pretty mild,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30temperatures 9 or 10 degrees.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32Now as we head into next week,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34look at the jet stream here.
0:02:34 > 0:02:35It starts to buckle more
0:02:35 > 0:02:37and that's going to be important.
0:02:37 > 0:02:38North of the jet stream
0:02:38 > 0:02:39we've got the colder air,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41south of it we've got the mild air.
0:02:41 > 0:02:42You can see how the shape
0:02:42 > 0:02:44is beginning to change.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46Now early on in the week,
0:02:46 > 0:02:48the high pressure still more
0:02:48 > 0:02:50towards the south and south-west,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52allows us to draw that Atlantic air
0:02:52 > 0:02:54feeding in cloudy skies
0:02:54 > 0:02:55and bringing with it
0:02:55 > 0:02:57some reasonable temperatures
0:02:57 > 0:02:58for the time of year.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00However, as we move into
0:03:00 > 0:03:01the latter part of next week,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03it looks like the high
0:03:03 > 0:03:04will tend to get pushed away
0:03:04 > 0:03:05more to the west
0:03:05 > 0:03:07as the jet stream buckles
0:03:07 > 0:03:09and we get this northerly flow returning,
0:03:09 > 0:03:10so it will turn colder.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12For a while, though, next week
0:03:12 > 0:03:15fairly cloudy, quite mild conditions across the UK,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18not much rain and then as the jet stream changes,
0:03:18 > 0:03:19we get the northerly winds,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22it gets progressively colder later next week.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24There'll be more frost around,
0:03:24 > 0:03:25there'll be more sunshine around,
0:03:25 > 0:03:29but there could also be some wintry showers. Goodbye.
