0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello. Thanks for joining me.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05I'm sure you know how these forecasts work by now,

0:00:05 > 0:00:07we try to give quite a bit of detail on the shorter term of weather

0:00:07 > 0:00:09and then as we look a little bit longer term,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11we just try and pick out some of those trends.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15No doubt about it, in the short-term, it's that wintry feel

0:00:15 > 0:00:19that's likely to win out and the morning will again have offered

0:00:19 > 0:00:23the opportunity of a bright but crisp and frosty start

0:00:23 > 0:00:25for many central and western areas.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28But as I show you the bigger picture, you get that sense

0:00:28 > 0:00:31that maybe there is something of a change just waiting

0:00:31 > 0:00:33in those northern and western wings

0:00:33 > 0:00:36by way of relatively mild air,

0:00:36 > 0:00:37relatively, compared to

0:00:37 > 0:00:39what we've seen of late,

0:00:39 > 0:00:40that early taste of winter

0:00:40 > 0:00:41for some of you.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42Many of these showers in the east

0:00:42 > 0:00:45still urged along by quite a keen wind

0:00:45 > 0:00:47will be watery on Friday rather than wintry.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Signs of more cloud and a bit of rain

0:00:49 > 0:00:50getting into the far north-west

0:00:50 > 0:00:52of Scotland to finish the day.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53The best of the brightness

0:00:53 > 0:00:54perhaps again through Wales,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55the Midlands, and down

0:00:55 > 0:00:57into the south-west of England.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Maybe those temperatures just a degree or two

0:01:00 > 0:01:01up on where we were

0:01:01 > 0:01:03in the middle part of the week.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04Come the weekend, well,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06a lot more cloud just rotating

0:01:06 > 0:01:07around that north-eastern flank

0:01:07 > 0:01:08of the high pressure,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10slumping its way into the British Isles,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12so no scraping of cars, I think,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14to start off the new day on Saturday

0:01:14 > 0:01:17and here those averages maybe again,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19certainly in the west,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21a degree or two higher than we have been

0:01:21 > 0:01:22and no longer the 3 or 4 degrees

0:01:22 > 0:01:24out towards the east.

0:01:24 > 0:01:25Yes, it's only 5 or 6,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27this is no new heatwave,

0:01:27 > 0:01:28but at least we're beginning

0:01:28 > 0:01:29to see a trend building.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31I think that trend will continue

0:01:31 > 0:01:33as the overall pattern stays

0:01:33 > 0:01:34pretty much the same -

0:01:34 > 0:01:36high pressure out towards the west,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38weak weather fronts drifting their way down,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40so maybe the odd spot of rain.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41I'm not promising everybody

0:01:41 > 0:01:43a completely dry weekend

0:01:43 > 0:01:44by any means at all but the trend

0:01:44 > 0:01:46that I really want to hammer home

0:01:46 > 0:01:48is that we're getting 7, 8, 9, 10,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50possibly 11 degrees, as the cold air

0:01:50 > 0:01:52that has dominated our weather of late

0:01:52 > 0:01:54is shunted to the near continent,

0:01:54 > 0:01:58leaving behind it the prospect of the circulation

0:01:58 > 0:01:59being very much dominated

0:01:59 > 0:02:01by the high pressure

0:02:01 > 0:02:05and a feed in from a relatively mild Atlantic

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and there is no difference to the pattern

0:02:07 > 0:02:08as we get on into Monday

0:02:08 > 0:02:11and I can take you even further ahead

0:02:11 > 0:02:13than that on into Tuesday.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15I think the only change that we're picking up

0:02:15 > 0:02:17at the moment is that maybe the centre of gravity

0:02:17 > 0:02:20for the high is no longer completely blocking out

0:02:20 > 0:02:23towards the west but it's rather slid its way

0:02:23 > 0:02:24a little bit further towards

0:02:24 > 0:02:26the south to become very much

0:02:26 > 0:02:28the dominant player here but

0:02:28 > 0:02:29maybe, just maybe,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32that change of position of the centre

0:02:32 > 0:02:34of the high is just beginning to open

0:02:34 > 0:02:37a window of opportunity for something to develop

0:02:37 > 0:02:38and something to change across

0:02:38 > 0:02:39the northern half

0:02:39 > 0:02:41of the British Isles.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42So, midweek until the latter part

0:02:42 > 0:02:44of the week, I'm not so much

0:02:44 > 0:02:46looking for wild changes in the south,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48but with time, we may just push

0:02:48 > 0:02:50low pressures sort of through

0:02:50 > 0:02:52this corridor and occasionally

0:02:52 > 0:02:54that may just open up the door

0:02:54 > 0:02:56for something a little bit cooler,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57with the threat of snow showers,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59especially on the higher ground, of course,

0:02:59 > 0:03:03to break out across the northern parts of the British Isles.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Now, with some deal of uncertainty,

0:03:05 > 0:03:09next weekend it could well be that as we establish a low pressure out

0:03:09 > 0:03:12towards the east and high pressure again resuming its position out

0:03:12 > 0:03:15towards the west, we may start drawing in something

0:03:15 > 0:03:17a little bit colder again.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So certainly milder in the south throughout, unsettled further north

0:03:20 > 0:03:22because of the transition of those lows

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and it could be as far ahead as next weekend,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28we see the return of something a good deal colder. Bye-bye.
