0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, thanks for joining me. We'll speak with some confidence

0:00:04 > 0:00:06about what we expect to see by way of weather

0:00:06 > 0:00:08until the middle of the forthcoming week,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12and then we'll pick out the trends for a slightly longer term.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Let's really boost the confidence levels

0:00:14 > 0:00:17and take a look at what happened in November with regard to sunshine.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19You'll see from the scale that many were well above

0:00:19 > 0:00:21what we would expect at this time of year.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Does that mean we've experienced a heatwave? Most certainly not.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Many locations in England and Wales around about the average,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Scotland and Northern Ireland below par

0:00:30 > 0:00:32because these areas have been fully exposed

0:00:32 > 0:00:35to quite a lot of northerly wind

0:00:35 > 0:00:39which has brought that prospect, as many of you will have seen of late,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41of something really quite wintry.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Now, through the course of the weekend we swap that cold air

0:00:44 > 0:00:47that many have seen through the week for something a good deal milder

0:00:47 > 0:00:51coming in from the Atlantic thanks to an area of high pressure

0:00:51 > 0:00:52just to the west of Ireland.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55So no longer that bright, fresh start to the day.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57A little bit milder, perhaps,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00and certainly more cloud across western areas

0:01:00 > 0:01:01than we've seen of late.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03A frontal system across the northern parts of Scotland.

0:01:03 > 0:01:08The temperatures just showing signs of gaining a degree or two.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11This transition to something slightly milder from the Atlantic

0:01:11 > 0:01:14will take a good part of the weekend.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17That feature I was talking about in the north of Scotland for Saturday

0:01:17 > 0:01:20becomes the feature across the south of Britain as we start Sunday.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22That gradually creeps away

0:01:22 > 0:01:24and brighter skies percolate from the north

0:01:24 > 0:01:27ever further south towards the Midlands and southern England.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29By this stage, look at that - 7 to 11

0:01:29 > 0:01:31rather than the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

0:01:31 > 0:01:34that many have seen for the past few days.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38All of that is coming to us thanks to this big area of high pressure

0:01:38 > 0:01:41as we start the new week, out towards the western side of Ireland,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44the flow coming in from the north-west,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48and having seen that sort of mildish, cloudy day on Sunday,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51we do it all over again on Monday.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54This stage, 8, 9, 10, 11 degrees or so.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56So the temperatures making double figures

0:01:56 > 0:01:58across the southern half of the British Isles.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Come Tuesday, that high pressure will have slid down towards France

0:02:02 > 0:02:04so we're getting more of a south and south-westerly breeze.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07That also helps to keep the temperatures up -

0:02:07 > 0:02:09we will be frost-free as we start the new week.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12And then from Tuesday on into Wednesday,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15that high pressure is still there across the southern half of Britain,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18but because it's that bit further south it's opened the door for

0:02:18 > 0:02:21developments to move in to the north and west of the British Isles

0:02:21 > 0:02:24from the Atlantic. So wet and windy fare

0:02:24 > 0:02:27for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland by this stage,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29but look at the temperatures.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31No longer the 3, 4, 5, look at this -

0:02:31 > 0:02:339, 10, 11 or 12.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36And then Wednesday could well be a wet and windy sort of day.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Certainly later in the day, on into Thursday,

0:02:38 > 0:02:42this low pressure really churning its way in from the Atlantic.

0:02:42 > 0:02:43By the end of the week

0:02:43 > 0:02:46we think it'll have moved over towards Scandinavia.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48We don't want to leave a vacuum behind,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51so we bring the high pressure in and that generates a northerly.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Now that goes back to where we were in the middle of this week,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56and you know what happened.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58There could be some snow showers in that forecast,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00particularly across northern and eastern parts.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Then, towards next weekend, that high pressure retreats,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07we bring a low pressure in close by to Scotland, and that generates

0:03:07 > 0:03:10a coolish sort of north-westerly breeze.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12And there could well be quite a bit of that,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15because we have that juxtaposition of the high and the low.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19So it could be for a time that we see something really quite cold,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21certainly windy at times,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24and there could, whilst we have that northerly especially,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27have that prospect again of seeing something really quite wintry.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Enjoy your weekend.
