0:00:02 > 0:00:04The UK's next named storm is on the way,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07then it turns colder - snow showers, frost and ice.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09That's just this week's weather!

0:00:09 > 0:00:12And this forecast has to get through next week too. Better crack on.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14I'll start with a view of Tuesday -

0:00:14 > 0:00:16grey, mild, all pretty quiet now,

0:00:16 > 0:00:17but that's about to change.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Looking to the Atlantic,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21this big swirl of cloud,

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Storm Caroline, on the way

0:00:23 > 0:00:25to the UK. Looks like Scotland

0:00:25 > 0:00:28will bear the brunt of the strongest winds on Thursday,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31but the winds will pick up across the board, thanks to Storm Caroline,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34then as it moves away, it'll turn much colder

0:00:34 > 0:00:37and at the end of the week, some of us will be dealing with

0:00:37 > 0:00:39snow showers, frosty and icy nights too.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42First, Wednesday's weather,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44and one last mild day.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47The flow of air from the south, southwest,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49plenty of cloud but some brighter breaks

0:00:49 > 0:00:51for England, Wales and northeast Scotland.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Northern Ireland, elsewhere in Scotland

0:00:54 > 0:00:56will see rain moving in

0:00:56 > 0:00:58and temperatures top out at 10 to maybe 13, 14,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00but by the end of Wednesday,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02gales are developing

0:01:02 > 0:01:04in western areas. There's Caroline,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06passing to the north of Scotland,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and it is Scotland on Thursday that will see the strongest gusts,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11maybe 80mph in the north,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13but the risk of disruptive gusts elsewhere.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16It will be windy across the UK with gales,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18a band of rain sweeping southwards,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21showers following to the northwest,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23and as the colder air moves south across the UK,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26this is what the temperatures will be at the end of the afternoon.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29We're likely to see blizzards across parts of northern Scotland

0:01:29 > 0:01:33going into Friday. By Friday, Caroline is out into Scandinavia,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36but look at the flow of air from the Arctic,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38isobars tight together,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41so strong, cold winds surging south across the UK,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44and for some of us, the day will start very wintery,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48with snow showers affecting northern and western parts,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Northern Ireland, Wales and western England,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54icy in places too. Elsewhere, quite a bit of sunshine.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Sunshine or snow showers, it's going to feel bitterly cold,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00colder than the thermometer might suggest,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03feeling closer to or below freezing on Friday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06into Saturday too, which starts frosty,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09and the sleet and snow showers will be close to North Sea coasts,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12where winds will be strongest,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and it'll feel coldest as a result.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Elsewhere, loads of sunshine,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18but by Sunday - cold start, frosty start,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21and we're going to bring an Atlantic weather system

0:02:21 > 0:02:24into the UK, with the moisture, into that cold air.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25There's a lot of uncertainty

0:02:25 > 0:02:27about how quickly this will move across the UK,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30but some of us are likely to see some snow

0:02:30 > 0:02:32as it runs into the cold air,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and there's a risk of significant snow in places,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37particularly across northern parts of the UK,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40so for Sunday, this is very much a case of watch this space.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41I think there'll be further

0:02:41 > 0:02:44similar problems into next week,

0:02:44 > 0:02:45because the weather pattern

0:02:45 > 0:02:47stays the same. The jet stream

0:02:47 > 0:02:48just lurking to the west of us,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50but much of the UK will be on the

0:02:50 > 0:02:52northern side of the jet stream.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53What does that mean?

0:02:53 > 0:02:55It means on the cold side,

0:02:55 > 0:02:56so cold air in place for most of us,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58milder flirtations at times

0:02:58 > 0:03:00with the south and southwest,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02and along the jet stream,

0:03:02 > 0:03:03we're likely to see some further

0:03:03 > 0:03:05weather systems from the Atlantic,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07bringing moisture into cold air.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08Where it's mild to the south

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and southwest, maybe rain,

0:03:10 > 0:03:11but elsewhere in the UK,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14in the cold air, on the northern side of the jet stream,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16a risk of snow. So, next week looking cold for most of us,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18often windy

0:03:18 > 0:03:19and a risk of further snow.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So next week is looking interesting.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25That's after this week's rollercoaster ride of temperatures

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and, of course, Storm Caroline.
