0:00:02 > 0:00:04There's a lot happening over the next 48 hours,
0:00:04 > 0:00:07so we are going to concentrate on that period quite a bit,
0:00:07 > 0:00:12and then just a flavour of what we can expect in the next week or so.
0:00:12 > 0:00:13A fair bit of snow around,
0:00:13 > 0:00:16certainly Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18parts of Wales and the Midlands,
0:00:18 > 0:00:20but the snow showers
0:00:20 > 0:00:21fell in distinct areas.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23We saw these streaks of snow showers
0:00:23 > 0:00:26moving in from the northwest
0:00:26 > 0:00:28so some of us had snow,
0:00:28 > 0:00:30others had nothing but clear blue skies
0:00:30 > 0:00:32during the course of the day,
0:00:32 > 0:00:35so there have been some big contrasts in the weather
0:00:35 > 0:00:37during Friday.
0:00:37 > 0:00:38Through the night,
0:00:38 > 0:00:40we can expect some more showers
0:00:40 > 0:00:42across Wales, possibly Northern Ireland,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44but northern parts of Scotland,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46where the wind is blowing hard,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49so across the hills we are talking about blizzards.
0:00:49 > 0:00:50It'll be cold. In rural spots,
0:00:50 > 0:00:53it might dip to minus 5, minus 8,
0:00:53 > 0:00:56so tomorrow - an ice risk across many
0:00:56 > 0:00:59northern and western areas,
0:00:59 > 0:01:01other than that, it's sunshine from the word go
0:01:01 > 0:01:04for many, and it is going to be a cold day.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06It'll feel as if it's below freezing
0:01:06 > 0:01:07right across the country,
0:01:07 > 0:01:10but there will be snow showers around
0:01:10 > 0:01:12in parts of Wales, northwest England.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Places like Liverpool, maybe Manchester
0:01:15 > 0:01:17catching a few flakes of snow.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19Now the interesting period.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21Through Saturday night -
0:01:21 > 0:01:23a lot of cold air, a widespread frost,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26a new, fresh weather front bumps into that cold air
0:01:26 > 0:01:29and look what happens - snow across Ireland,
0:01:29 > 0:01:31Northern Ireland, Wales, the Midlands,
0:01:31 > 0:01:33East Anglia, northern England.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35In fact, many of us waking up
0:01:35 > 0:01:37to a significant covering of snow
0:01:37 > 0:01:39first thing on Sunday.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42A good job it's not happening during the week,
0:01:42 > 0:01:44working week, at the rush hour,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46because that would be very disruptive snow.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49By the time we get to Sunday afternoon,
0:01:49 > 0:01:52that snow will be petering out across northern parts.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55To the south, it'll be very windy, gale-force winds,
0:01:55 > 0:01:58and a lot milder, thanks to this low pressure
0:01:58 > 0:02:00moving away. One moves away,
0:02:00 > 0:02:02and then, Monday, another low pressure,
0:02:02 > 0:02:04potentially a storm,
0:02:04 > 0:02:07impacts France, and to the north of that,
0:02:07 > 0:02:09there could be some snow
0:02:09 > 0:02:11falling across more southern parts,
0:02:11 > 0:02:14possibly nudging into the London area,
0:02:14 > 0:02:16but this will be very transient snow.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18It's not going to last for very long.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21It might last for a couple of hours and then move away
0:02:21 > 0:02:24with the low pressure pushing out into the Continent.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26One low moves away
0:02:26 > 0:02:29and we're in this ridge of high pressure,
0:02:29 > 0:02:32so Tuesday is expected to be a quieter day,
0:02:32 > 0:02:36still pretty cold, might be milder across the far southwest,
0:02:36 > 0:02:39but lots of sunshine, certainly starting frosty,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41then sun during the afternoon.
0:02:41 > 0:02:45Wednesday - looks like we're picking up more south-westerly winds,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48there could be weather fronts bringing rainfall to western areas,
0:02:48 > 0:02:50and it'll turn less cold,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52possibly back up to double figures
0:02:52 > 0:02:55by the time we get to the middle part of the week.
0:02:55 > 0:02:5711 degrees in Plymouth. If you
0:02:57 > 0:02:59were watching this time yesterday,
0:02:59 > 0:03:02the thinking was that the colder air
0:03:02 > 0:03:04is going to win and stick around.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06It looks as though the jet stream
0:03:06 > 0:03:08is going to be pushing milder air
0:03:08 > 0:03:10in our direction later next week.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13So that snow risk is going to be
0:03:13 > 0:03:15less through next week,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18as it turns colder, and more than anything,
0:03:18 > 0:03:21it's going to be spells of rain and wind,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24so over the weekend, next 48 hours or so,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26we are going to get snow,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28and then things calm down.
