0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Cold Arctic air not just affecting the UK at the moment,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06it's also been affecting much of the US and Canada.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10We've seen snowfall as far south as New Orleans over the past few days.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13The area of blue, that Arctic air, pushes all way down the Gulf Coast.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15As you can see, towards us.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18But with the jet stream starting to strengthen,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21over 200mph through this weekend,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24we start to throw weather fronts our way into the air that we have

0:00:24 > 0:00:27and with that a big risk of disruptive snowfall for Sunday.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Met Office amber warning in place across North Wales,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31much of the Midlands.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34It's these areas where travel disruption is certainly likely,

0:00:34 > 0:00:38anywhere between 5-20cm of snow possible.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40The northern edge a little bit uncertain but we'll see

0:00:40 > 0:00:42snow get very close by into the morning,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45the southern edge is going to be a mixture of rain

0:00:45 > 0:00:47turning to snow, back to rain through the day.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50The southernmost counties of England, this is where

0:00:50 > 0:00:52we'll see mainly rain, same to the south of Wales,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54and a different issue here, it's going to be the strength

0:00:54 > 0:00:56of the wind, gales if not sever gale force winds,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59that could cause disruption of its own.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Notice the snow across this central swathe of England

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and Wales starts to peter out a little bit, turning

0:01:03 > 0:01:05lighter and patchier into the afternoon,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08far north of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and

0:01:08 > 0:01:10then a few wintry showers in the far north of Scotland,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12most will have a dry and sunny Sunday. Pretty cold one, though,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15temperatures struggling to get above freezing. Same where

0:01:15 > 0:01:19you've got the snow in the south. Strong winds, they could get figures

0:01:19 > 0:01:20into double digits.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Ice is then going to be the big risk as we go into Sunday night

0:01:23 > 0:01:25as the patchy sleet and snow gradually clears

0:01:25 > 0:01:27southwards. Some further snow showers in parts

0:01:27 > 0:01:30of Scotland and Northern Ireland and a widespread frost.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Temperatures in the city centres like this

0:01:33 > 0:01:36minus double digits through some parts of northern

0:01:36 > 0:01:39England, north Wales and also parts of Scotland as well.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43So a very cold start to Monday but we're watching this

0:01:43 > 0:01:46area of low pressure. For us, the good news is it's driven

0:01:46 > 0:01:48by a 200mmph jet stream. It looks like it'll

0:01:48 > 0:01:51strengthen and hit Spain, Portugal and France greatest.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54We could get close enough to bring severe gales

0:01:54 > 0:01:57to the south-east corner, rain which could turn to snow on

0:01:57 > 0:01:59its western flank, only a small chance at the moment

0:01:59 > 0:02:02but one to watch. Sleet and snow flurries could cause

0:02:02 > 0:02:04problems in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire

0:02:04 > 0:02:08and also parts of Cornwall. Much of the country cold, sunny

0:02:08 > 0:02:09but rather raw.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13We go into Tuesday, well, after a night of clear skies

0:02:13 > 0:02:16and lighter winds there will be a severe, widespread frost,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19especially where snow is on the ground, but Tuesday

0:02:19 > 0:02:22itself slowly warming up through the day, dry, reasonably

0:02:22 > 0:02:24sunny day for many, but changes afoot.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Now, we go into the middle part of the week with the Atlantic

0:02:27 > 0:02:30starting to take over from Arctic air. This weather front

0:02:30 > 0:02:32brings the change. Some snow on the hills to begin with,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35turning to rain as that weather front pushes its way

0:02:35 > 0:02:37eastwards, lying across eastern England to start

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Wednesday. That will clear, sunshine out across eastern areas

0:02:40 > 0:02:42in the afternoon. Frequent, heavy, thundery showers in

0:02:42 > 0:02:45the west. Some of these could be sleet, hail and snow.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Snow though mainly over the higher ground. The air's not

0:02:47 > 0:02:49quite as cold as we started the week.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51We continue with those winds coming off the Atlantic

0:02:51 > 0:02:53but starting to go a bit more north-westerly by the

0:02:53 > 0:02:56time we hit Thursday. There will be some very windy

0:02:56 > 0:02:58conditions through Wednesday night into Thursday. Could be

0:02:58 > 0:03:01severe gales, and it's a sunshine, shower day for Thursday,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03again some of those heavy with hail and thunder, sleet

0:03:03 > 0:03:06and snow primarily over the hills. The second half of the

0:03:06 > 0:03:08week not as cold as this weekend.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11And then we go into next weekend. Friday and next weekend

0:03:11 > 0:03:14looks like the winds will go back to north-westerly once again,

0:03:14 > 0:03:15even northerly.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18So it's going to be cold to finish the week going into the weekend.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20There will be wintry showers around, snow mainly over the hills,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23not as bad as we'll see on Sunday, the nights will be frosty

0:03:23 > 0:03:25but next week things will turn

0:03:25 > 0:03:26a bit milder and we'll get that

0:03:26 > 0:03:28oscillating pattern to take us

0:03:28 > 0:03:30through next week, too. Bye for now.
