0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. Sunday was certainly a day to keep us meteorologists on our toes.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07It was a day of some big extremes

0:00:07 > 0:00:09and big travel problems as well.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10Let's start with the snow.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14We saw a foot of snow fall quite readily across the hills of Wales.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Some of you saw a little bit more than the 30 centimetres

0:00:17 > 0:00:19recorded at Sennybridge.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Much, much milder to the south coast of England and Wales.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Around the Bristol and English channels, we saw severe gales

0:00:25 > 0:00:29peaking over open waters of the English Channel at around 90mph.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Quieter further north, yes, but colder.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35Parts of Scotland didn't get above -7 through the entire day.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38And, of course after temperatures like that by day,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40we start Monday on a very, very cold note.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43One thing to keep our eye out for on Monday, amongst others,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45is this area of low pressure.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49It's going to be another day of weather extremes for some.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51We've got severe gales across in France.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Some of those will get very close to the south-east through the day.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Outbreaks of rain - East Anglia and the south-east corner which

0:00:56 > 0:00:59will turn to snow at times, particularly over the hills.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02We'll see further snow flurries in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:01:02 > 0:01:05and across the far western fringes of Wales and Cornwall.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07But for most, it's a dry and raw day.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Lots of sunshine overhead,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11but after that icy start,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14barely above freezing and more ice as we go into Monday night.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17The showers decaying back towards the coasts.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Again, a little bit wintry in places

0:01:18 > 0:01:21but nowhere near as severe as we've seen through the weekend.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23What will be severe is the frost to take us

0:01:23 > 0:01:24through Monday night into Tuesday morning.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Where snow is lying,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29-12 is possible just about anywhere in Scotland, England and Wales.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31In particular, that's because we've got a ridge

0:01:31 > 0:01:33of high pressure building in keeping winds light,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36but it also takes us into the quietest weather day

0:01:36 > 0:01:37of the week by and large.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39There will be some fog around in the morning.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41There will be used a few showers around some western

0:01:41 > 0:01:45and eastern coasts, but for most, it's a dry day, a sunny day,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47temperatures only just creeping above freezing.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Some will stay below freezing all day long,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52especially where there is a good pack of snow lying on the ground.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55But signs of changes towards the west later on.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Cloud will increase, patchy rain into Northern Ireland

0:01:57 > 0:01:59and the far west of Scotland later.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01All linked into this weather front which will introduce less cold

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Atlantic air as we go through Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06So not as cold on Tuesday night

0:02:06 > 0:02:08but outbreaks of rain pushing its way eastwards.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Some heavy bursts and we could see a little wave

0:02:10 > 0:02:13develop on the front and that could intensify the rain.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14Add that to snowmelt,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16there could be a minor problem with some flooding and

0:02:16 > 0:02:17we'll see more showers,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20and longer spells of rain pushing from the west later.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22The wind is going to turn to a north-westerly

0:02:22 > 0:02:24direction that will bring slightly colder air once again.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Again, not on the levels we've seen through the weekend

0:02:26 > 0:02:28but a chilly second-half to the week after a brief

0:02:28 > 0:02:30lift in the temperatures on Wednesday.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33A more straightforward picture of sunshine and showers for Thursday.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Showers most prevalent to the south-west of the country.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Snow mainly on the hills.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Most it will be rain, hail and sleet.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41Rumbles of thunder with it.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Northern, eastern areas always a bit drier and brighter.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Had a bit of frost here to start the day and a bit of frost as well

0:02:46 > 0:02:48to take us through Thursday night into Friday.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50The low pressure pushing its way eastwards,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52that opens the door back to northerly winds once again.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54It's going to stay cold towards the end of the week.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Those showers that we've seen recently

0:02:56 > 0:02:58across the far west of Wales will be back.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And the showers wintry in nature to the east of Scotland

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and eastern parts of England. But many will be dry and sunny.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06So we go into the weekend, cold air in place, look west -

0:03:06 > 0:03:09another wodge of mild air trying to push in,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12but cold air waiting in the wings once again.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13Next week will be an oscillating week.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Certainly through the weekend, it will be cold,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17a few wintry showers mainly around the coast.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Many will be dry and sunny but with frosty nights.

0:03:20 > 0:03:21By the end of the weekend,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24into the start of next week, it starts at milder once again but with

0:03:24 > 0:03:28some wet and windy weather and then could cold air be back later?

0:03:28 > 0:03:29We'll keep you updated.
