0:00:01 > 0:00:04Hello. The week has started with the weather making the news headlines.
0:00:04 > 0:00:07That is never really a good sign.
0:00:07 > 0:00:10Let's see if we can calm things down a little bit in the days to come.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12If your Monday was particularly wet and windy
0:00:12 > 0:00:14in this south-eastern corner,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16it was thanks to that area of low pressure.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18As that has moved further towards Scandinavia,
0:00:18 > 0:00:20it's dragged its cloud away with it,
0:00:20 > 0:00:21the winds have lightened
0:00:21 > 0:00:24and as a consequence that's a pretty good recipe,
0:00:24 > 0:00:25especially when you've got lying snow,
0:00:25 > 0:00:28to see the temperatures really fall away.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30So you could be starting Tuesday
0:00:30 > 0:00:32at -9, -10 or -11 in the countryside.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34In the major towns and cities down the spine of the country,
0:00:34 > 0:00:38you could easily be looking at -4, -5, -6 degrees.
0:00:38 > 0:00:39A really bitter start to the day.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41There will still be a sprinkling of showers
0:00:41 > 0:00:43across northern and eastern parts
0:00:43 > 0:00:45and there's a risk of ice as well
0:00:45 > 0:00:47quite widely across the British Isles.
0:00:47 > 0:00:48So bear that in mind first up.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51But once the day gets going, it is a decent sort of day.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53Plenty of sunshine around, not doing that much for the temperatures.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55And in the west, you even lose that as well,
0:00:55 > 0:00:57certainly through Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59the western fringes of Wales
0:00:59 > 0:01:02as a new set of weather fronts bring rain initially.
0:01:02 > 0:01:03But as it gets over the higher ground of Scotland,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05the top end of the Pennines,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07for a time there will be fresh snow.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09So just bear that one in mind.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11Here's the bigger picture as we get on into Wednesday.
0:01:11 > 0:01:13As that front clears away,
0:01:13 > 0:01:16so it just makes room for another mini front, if you like,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18to come through on a rather noticeable
0:01:18 > 0:01:20west and south-westerly wind.
0:01:20 > 0:01:24That will have the effect of having seen one set of cloud,
0:01:24 > 0:01:26wind and rain move away, it will just gang up those showers
0:01:26 > 0:01:28and these will be really quite punchy, quite a bit of hail,
0:01:28 > 0:01:31maybe a rumble of thunder and then things get
0:01:31 > 0:01:32a little bit quieter again
0:01:32 > 0:01:35until the next band of weather comes on through.
0:01:35 > 0:01:36But I was saying that the breeze is
0:01:36 > 0:01:38coming in from the west and south-west,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41so for some, that will help to boost the temperatures to
0:01:41 > 0:01:44the sort of levels you haven't seen for a day or two at the very least.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47But as we head out of Wednesday into Thursday,
0:01:47 > 0:01:50so will keep the isobars quite tightly packed,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53so Thursday another blustery, showery sort of day.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56No great heat in the atmosphere at this stage.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58So we expect to see a little bit of sunshine,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01but again if you catch those showers, you'll know all about it.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04There could be a wintry flavour to some of those.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07Now it's from there that we look towards
0:02:07 > 0:02:09the end of the week to see the breeze no longer
0:02:09 > 0:02:11coming from the west and south-west beginning
0:02:11 > 0:02:15to crank around into the northerly which taps us in to the cold air
0:02:15 > 0:02:18that sits there all the while to the north of the British Isles.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21But out in the wings, may be signs of change.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23We'll come to that in just a second.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25We have to get through the rest of the week first.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27So here we are, quite a few isobars there especially through
0:02:27 > 0:02:31western parts through Thursday and indeed on Friday.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34We begin see that process of just ratcheting
0:02:34 > 0:02:37the isobars around to give us that northerly flow.
0:02:37 > 0:02:38Forget all about the 10 or 11 degrees,
0:02:38 > 0:02:40anywhere across the British Isles.
0:02:40 > 0:02:443, 4, 5 to about 7 or 8 just about covers it.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47Friday into Saturday, here's the weekend.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51Notice the flow is still very much from the north and north-west.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53So quite a bit of dry weather
0:02:53 > 0:02:56if you're protected from that north-westerly direction.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59So eastern parts could see the very best of the sunshine,
0:02:59 > 0:03:02but after a frosty start, again, I don't think you're going to see
0:03:02 > 0:03:06too much in the way of temperature on those thermometers of yours.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08And then come Sunday,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10maybe just the first signs of that change that I was alluding to.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13The mild air waiting in the wings already showing
0:03:13 > 0:03:15itself into the south-west the British Isles.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17So further ahead into the new week,
0:03:17 > 0:03:19it could be milder than average,
0:03:19 > 0:03:21but there were a lot of isobars
0:03:21 > 0:03:24so it could stay windy and I think from that direction,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26that's the direction we often get that breeze,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29but also some cloud and rain at times.
