0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Thanks for joining me. We'll update you about
0:00:04 > 0:00:06how the rest of this week is going to pan out,
0:00:06 > 0:00:10then burst on through the weekend and give you some sense of
0:00:10 > 0:00:12what's coming up in the run-up toward Christmas.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14In the shorter term,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16bit of a concern about the intensity of snow
0:00:16 > 0:00:19that could break out across the south-west of Scotland.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22Could even feature in the Glasgow area just in time for the rush hour.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25On a day which is going to see plenty of showers,
0:00:25 > 0:00:28again across many northern, western and southern Channel areas,
0:00:28 > 0:00:31the further east you are, or through the Midlands,
0:00:31 > 0:00:32I think you're in for essentially a dry day.
0:00:32 > 0:00:37Not overly warm, certainly not as warm as in the south on Wednesday.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Plenty of showers overnight again,
0:00:39 > 0:00:42pushed along by this north-westerly wind,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45and plenty of north-westerly wind, especially across the south-west,
0:00:45 > 0:00:48where again you're in for another gusty sort of night.
0:00:48 > 0:00:50Out into Friday, I think the chances are
0:00:50 > 0:00:54that the wind will have gone round northerly by that stage
0:00:54 > 0:00:56and that has quite a bearing on the shower distribution.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59Quite distinctive in that it pushes the showers
0:00:59 > 0:01:01along these eastern, northern shores
0:01:01 > 0:01:03with a few just rattling in to Northern Ireland
0:01:03 > 0:01:06and down to the west of Wales and into the south-west.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09Down the spine of the country there's plenty of sunshine to be had
0:01:09 > 0:01:12but it does nothing for those temperatures - three to about eight.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15If you're in the full extent of that northerly wind
0:01:15 > 0:01:17it'll feel even colder than that.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19The northerly doesn't hang around for too long -
0:01:19 > 0:01:22from Friday into Saturday, just beginning to see those isobars
0:01:22 > 0:01:25backing around more towards a westerly.
0:01:25 > 0:01:29Certainly that's the case across the western side of the British Isles.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31Just a little feature there ganging those showers up,
0:01:31 > 0:01:33robbing Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35the north-west of England and North Wales of sunshine
0:01:35 > 0:01:37and putting a dent in the temperatures as a consequence.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40But we continue that journey with the isobars
0:01:40 > 0:01:43to come round even further to more of a south-westerly,
0:01:43 > 0:01:46and weather fronts marching their way in from the Atlantic,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48and it's a combination of those fronts
0:01:48 > 0:01:51and that change of air mass direction,
0:01:51 > 0:01:53from the south-west rather than the north,
0:01:53 > 0:01:57that ushers the cold air over towards central Europe.
0:01:57 > 0:01:59And for us, we look towards the Atlantic
0:01:59 > 0:02:01and we'll do that for quite a while.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04Notice that there is quite a wodge of mild air here
0:02:04 > 0:02:06stretching right out into the Atlantic
0:02:06 > 0:02:08so that is certainly going to do us through Sunday
0:02:08 > 0:02:11and the first part of the forthcoming week,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13but it's at the expense, this boost in temperatures,
0:02:13 > 0:02:16of a loss of sunshine for many parts during Sunday.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19You may not think that five degrees in Norwich is particularly special,
0:02:19 > 0:02:23but we complete the journey into that great raft of mild air
0:02:23 > 0:02:26as we get, as I say, into the start of the forthcoming week,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29when the air is coming up and around this high pressure
0:02:29 > 0:02:31which becomes the dominant feature in the south,
0:02:31 > 0:02:34so tending to keep much of this southeastern quarter
0:02:34 > 0:02:37that little bit drier. What weather fronts there are
0:02:37 > 0:02:40tending to run up towards the north-western quarter of Scotland.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43Notice those temperature. Monday, double figures.
0:02:43 > 0:02:45Can we do it again two days running?
0:02:45 > 0:02:49Given that supply of mild air, yes, we certainly can. Look at this.
0:02:49 > 0:02:53Widely, temperatures will be in double figures at that stage.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55And having set up that sort of regime,
0:02:55 > 0:02:59I suspect that's the way we'll see it through the middle part of
0:02:59 > 0:03:02the forthcoming week, and indeed towards the end of the week,
0:03:02 > 0:03:04with that high pressure forcing low pressures up
0:03:04 > 0:03:07and across the north-western quarter of the British Isles.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10Quite how far up the high goes
0:03:10 > 0:03:12or how far it sinks towards the Continent
0:03:12 > 0:03:14open to some debate at the moment,
0:03:14 > 0:03:17but generally with that air flow we'll keep things mild
0:03:17 > 0:03:19or above average for the time of year.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21There will be some spells of rain,
0:03:21 > 0:03:23predominantly across that north-western quarter,
0:03:23 > 0:03:26and because of the high, dry, yes,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28but there will be some frost and maybe some fog.
