0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there, we'll take a look at the all-important weather

0:00:04 > 0:00:06for the Christmas week a little later on.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08There are some major changes on the way.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Before then, though, very quiet start to the week.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14Got high pressure dominating across much of England and Wales.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Stronger winds towards the north-west, ahead of that

0:00:16 > 0:00:19weather front there. But it's underneath the high pressure

0:00:19 > 0:00:22that we've seen a lot of fog forming. In some areas,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25it didn't really clear away all day on Monday.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27And it's just becoming more widespread. Central, southern

0:00:27 > 0:00:31and eastern England - it will have a knock-on effect on the roads

0:00:31 > 0:00:33but possibly onto some of those airports as well.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Now, gradually most of that fog will tend to lift

0:00:36 > 0:00:39as cloud tends to roll over the top from the west.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42But some areas - East Midlands, East Anglia, the South East,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44it's going to be a very slow process. Maybe some sunshine

0:00:44 > 0:00:47coming through but equally the fog may linger into the afternoon,

0:00:47 > 0:00:51so a cold day here. Contrast that with 14, if we get some sunshine,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53along the Moray Coast and generally much milder for

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Scotland, Northern Ireland, western parts of England and Wales,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59where we are more likely to get some hill fog rather than

0:00:59 > 0:01:02fog at lower levels. And it shouldn't be quite as dense either.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Not as foggy across these southern areas overnight.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07We've got this band of rain moving southwards across Scotland

0:01:07 > 0:01:11into Northern Ireland. Ahead of it, then we're going to find

0:01:11 > 0:01:14temperatures four or five degrees - it turns a touch chillier in

0:01:14 > 0:01:15the far north of Scotland, actually,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18once that band of rain has cleared through.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20And it's this weather front here, it's very weak -

0:01:20 > 0:01:22it's going to get stuck eventually on Wednesday,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24probably across northern England, Wales, the Midlands.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28South of that, milder conditions on Wednesday, cloudy conditions.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31And to the north, if we do get some sunshine in northern Scotland

0:01:31 > 0:01:34it's because we're in some colder air but only briefly.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37That weather front still hanging around across the UK

0:01:37 > 0:01:40overnight and into Thursday. A little bit further south,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43probably at this stage, or at least heading that way during the day

0:01:43 > 0:01:45on Thursday. Allowing more sunshine to develop across Scotland

0:01:45 > 0:01:47and Northern Ireland, possibly northern England,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50even into the Midlands and North Wales.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Much milder but cloudy and damp further south across the UK.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56That weather system is just going to get swallowed up by this

0:01:56 > 0:01:59building area of high pressure on Thursday and into Friday,

0:01:59 > 0:02:03so weakening, the rain petering out, we're left with a lot

0:02:03 > 0:02:06of dry weather on Friday. Left with a lot of cloud, mind you.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08This time, the best chance of seeing any sunshine

0:02:08 > 0:02:11will be across more eastern areas of the UK.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14For many, again light winds. Not expecting the fog problems

0:02:14 > 0:02:18because there will probably be more cloud, less clear skies.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21And this is how we look as we head into the weekend,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24just before Christmas Day itself - high pressure sitting over

0:02:24 > 0:02:27the near Continent, dominating southern parts of the UK.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Weather systems and areas of low pressure running to the

0:02:29 > 0:02:32north of Scotland, threatening some rain but in between

0:02:32 > 0:02:34we've go this mild west to south-westerly wind

0:02:34 > 0:02:37and it will be windy. Now, as we head further into

0:02:37 > 0:02:40the Christmas week, we're going to find that milder west to

0:02:40 > 0:02:43south-westerly getting replaced by some colder air that's

0:02:43 > 0:02:45going to come down from the north-west and that will

0:02:45 > 0:02:48ultimately lead to an area of low pressure sitting to the west

0:02:48 > 0:02:52of the UK. Whilst the low pressure is to the west of the UK,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55we're going to draw up some winds from the south,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59so that's a milder wind, more likely to bring cloud and rain.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02But eventually, that area of low pressure is going to track

0:03:02 > 0:03:05across the UK and as it heads towards the east of us,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08so we draw down winds from the north

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and this is when it really starts to get cold.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Now there is a small chance of seeing some snow perhaps over

0:03:13 > 0:03:15the Scottish mountains on Christmas Day itself but

0:03:15 > 0:03:18otherwise it's going to be quite windy.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20It's also going to be wet. Rain to begin with

0:03:20 > 0:03:23but then as the cold air arrives after Christmas day,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25so we could well see some sleet and some snow.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28How soon that colder air arrives, not quite sure. See you again.
