0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. Storm Dylan made an appearance
0:00:04 > 0:00:07on the last day of the year, signalling some very unsettled
0:00:07 > 0:00:10weather for the first week of the New Year.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13Dominated by low pressure on New Year's Day,
0:00:13 > 0:00:16this is actually the storm which is spinning its way towards France,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18could bring some damaging winds here.
0:00:18 > 0:00:22We're very much just on the edge of that, it's more likely to be a spell
0:00:22 > 0:00:25of rain that runs its way eastwards across southern parts of England
0:00:25 > 0:00:28and Wales, mainly in the morning, then some sunshine.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31But then more showers, gusty winds for Northern Ireland,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33pushing across Scotland, down into northern England, Wales,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36perhaps into the Midlands by the end of the day.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38Snow over the Scottish hills, going to be quite cold here.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41Those temperatures are little bit lower than we've seen recently,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43but fairly typical for this time of year.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47As the showers fade away, the winds drop, temperatures fall away,
0:00:47 > 0:00:49it'll be a colder night on Monday night, Tuesday morning.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51Maybe some frost in rural areas.
0:00:51 > 0:00:54Towards the South West, it won't be as cold, because by morning,
0:00:54 > 0:00:57some rain arriving here. So too across Northern Ireland.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59And the spell of rain will push eastwards,
0:00:59 > 0:01:03some snow over the Pennines briefly, and over the Scottish hills,
0:01:03 > 0:01:06before we get sunshine and showers to end the day
0:01:06 > 0:01:08on a stronger, westerly wind.
0:01:08 > 0:01:11That's a milder wind, so temperatures towards the South West
0:01:11 > 0:01:13much higher compared with the North East,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15where it's going to be quite cold and wet.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18That front out of the way, around the base of that big low pressure,
0:01:18 > 0:01:21another weather system comes in, it's going to be bringing
0:01:21 > 0:01:25with it some rain and strong-to-gale force winds so overnight.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27Into Wednesday, the worst of that clears away.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30Stays quite windy, we're going to find showers and sunshine.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Nearer to the centre of the low pressure,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35somewhat more organised wet weather coming into
0:01:35 > 0:01:38the northwest of Scotland and perhaps across Northern Ireland too.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42So, temperatures six degrees, seven degrees. Glasgow and Belfast
0:01:42 > 0:01:45as high as 10, also towards London and the South East.
0:01:45 > 0:01:49That low pressure is out of the way, we're still left with this
0:01:49 > 0:01:52filling low pressure, so that's going to weaken ahead of another
0:01:52 > 0:01:55low pressure coming in from the Atlantic - there's a theme here.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58We've got a colder start, probably, on Thursday.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00Fewer showers around,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03But another spell of rain coming in fairly quickly.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06That rain can be quite heavy, does tend to split apart.
0:02:06 > 0:02:10One dose of heavy rain heading into the near constant,
0:02:10 > 0:02:12then we're left with this area of low pressure.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15This will hang around for a few days.
0:02:15 > 0:02:19That's Friday, and we're dominated by low pressure.
0:02:19 > 0:02:23This band of rain sitting towards the North East, into Scotland,
0:02:23 > 0:02:26really wet and cold in the wind here.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28Strong winds around the low will bring wetter weather
0:02:28 > 0:02:30across Northern Ireland,
0:02:30 > 0:02:33back over the Irish Sea into western parts of England and Wales.
0:02:33 > 0:02:37This is how we end the week, and we start the new weekend.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40Low pressure across the UK, windy and wet.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42But things will change.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45High-pressure up towards Iceland, that looks like,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48in the longer term, it will drift across to Scandinavia.
0:02:48 > 0:02:53At the same time, our low pressure moves into the near continent,
0:02:53 > 0:02:56allowing us to get an easterly wind, which means, basically,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58it'll turned much colder.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00We're on the colder side of the jet, which is
0:03:00 > 0:03:03certainly buckling in the outlook, close to the UK.
0:03:03 > 0:03:05However, there is a stronger surge of winds
0:03:05 > 0:03:08coming from the Atlantic, which may break down that colder
0:03:08 > 0:03:11block of air and turn things more unsettled from the Atlantic.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14That transition is going to be very tricky.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18Basically, it's going to turn much colder for the outlook.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20Probably going to turn drier as well,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23but if we get these Atlantic winds coming in eventually,
0:03:23 > 0:03:28then in that cold air there is the threat of some significant snow.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29All to play for.
