0:00:02 > 0:00:03Quite a storm, Tuesday night,

0:00:03 > 0:00:06into the early hours of Wednesday across the UK.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09The good news is, no storms in the short term -

0:00:09 > 0:00:11but let's have a look at those gale force winds.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13In fact, storm force winds, there,

0:00:13 > 0:00:14in the north of the country.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16100mph, Great Dun Fell,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19even in West London itself, 73mph -

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and in London we had some damage, as well.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Of course, in big cities

0:00:23 > 0:00:25we don't often get winds

0:00:25 > 0:00:26of that sort of strength,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29but a lot of trees falling down

0:00:29 > 0:00:31across many parts of the UK.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Masonry falling off some buildings, as well,

0:00:34 > 0:00:38so a really dangerous picture across the UK.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Some other spectacular pictures

0:00:40 > 0:00:41coming in, as well.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Here's one from Anglesey,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46beautiful stormy seas, there,

0:00:46 > 0:00:47and in Aberdeenshire,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49which wasn't affected by the storm,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51a wintry scene, there,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53so, Scotland, for a change, in the north,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54had much quieter weather.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Remnants of the storm, Storm Eleanor,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58across the Baltic at the moment,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59just about into Scandinavia.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02There's another weather system heading our way

0:01:02 > 0:01:03during early Thursday,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06and we are expecting the wind to freshen once again

0:01:06 > 0:01:07across the south.

0:01:07 > 0:01:08There'll be some rain, too,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10but nothing of the magnitude

0:01:10 > 0:01:12that we've recently had.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13So, early on Thursday,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15temperatures are generally above freezing

0:01:15 > 0:01:16across most of the UK,

0:01:16 > 0:01:17and in the far north

0:01:17 > 0:01:18and north-east of Scotland, there,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20a touch of frost.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Here's a look at the morning on Thursday.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23By this stage, the weather front

0:01:23 > 0:01:25will have moved through across the south-west,

0:01:25 > 0:01:26but brought quite a bit of rain here.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28By this stage, we could have seen some flooding.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Very windy - some western and southern coasts,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33we are talking about gale force winds

0:01:33 > 0:01:35and rough conditions out around the coastline.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37You know, after the passage of a storm

0:01:37 > 0:01:38it takes a while for the sea

0:01:38 > 0:01:39to kind of calm down,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41and with the winds picking up once again

0:01:41 > 0:01:44with this weather front moving through,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45it is going to take time

0:01:45 > 0:01:47for the seas to ease a little bit.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49So, I think another very blustery day

0:01:49 > 0:01:50across western and southern areas,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52but nothing like what we've had.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53By the end of the afternoon,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56the rain is reaching northern parts of England,

0:01:56 > 0:01:57nudging into Scotland.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58Quite a temperature contrast.

0:01:58 > 0:01:59A balmy 13 in the south,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01and you can see, in northern Scotland,

0:02:01 > 0:02:02there, around about 6 degrees.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03Let's have a look at Friday.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05A real messy picture -

0:02:05 > 0:02:07it looks almost like a Picasso, doesn't it?

0:02:07 > 0:02:08Lots of little areas of low pressure,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10weather fronts around, as well.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12That basically translates

0:02:12 > 0:02:13to a changeable day across the UK

0:02:13 > 0:02:15from morning onwards. Again, blustery,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17a little low pressure spinning around here

0:02:17 > 0:02:19across the south-west may give, temporarily,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21some gale force winds, as well,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24and then, into Saturday, things start to change.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25All of that messy weather,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27with the fronts and the lows,

0:02:27 > 0:02:28slips southwards,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30because this high starts to build in -

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and we'll also start to see

0:02:31 > 0:02:34colder air seeping in from the north,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35so, there is a significant change

0:02:35 > 0:02:37as we head into the weekend,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40from this sort of milder, stormy weather coming

0:02:40 > 0:02:41out of the south-west,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43we're going to have much colder, calmer weather

0:02:43 > 0:02:45coming out of the north -

0:02:45 > 0:02:46but, for a time, there could even be

0:02:46 > 0:02:48a little bit of wintriness around,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50maybe some wintry showers across northern areas,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and a really biting wind,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54real significant wind chill, I think,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56to come through Saturday and Sunday.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Anybody in the north and east will notice it,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01and those easterly winds continue into Monday.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03A lot of dry weather, frost,

0:03:03 > 0:03:04possibly some morning fog

0:03:04 > 0:03:05if the winds die out

0:03:05 > 0:03:07during the course of the night -

0:03:07 > 0:03:09and this is the pattern that we're going to see

0:03:09 > 0:03:10early next week.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11So, high pressure here -

0:03:11 > 0:03:12this is what the jet stream does,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14it sort of goes around the high pressure,

0:03:14 > 0:03:15and these lows get stuck,

0:03:15 > 0:03:16they can't move through,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17because of this high -

0:03:17 > 0:03:19and, instead, what we do get

0:03:19 > 0:03:20early next week is, perhaps,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22colder air seeping in

0:03:22 > 0:03:25from northern and eastern parts of Europe.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27So, there is a definite change on the way

0:03:27 > 0:03:28after this stormy weather.
