0:00:02 > 0:00:04It's been a very unsettled start to 2018,

0:00:04 > 0:00:08a lot of wet and windy weather with Storm Dylan followed by Eleanor.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Things will turn quieter,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13but it's quite a complicated weather set-up.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15The pressure chart looks like Spaghetti Junction -

0:00:15 > 0:00:18lots of low pressure centres

0:00:18 > 0:00:19and weak frontal systems

0:00:19 > 0:00:22which will bring further spells of rain

0:00:22 > 0:00:23over the next 24 hours or so.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26During Friday, we've got an area of rain and hill snow

0:00:26 > 0:00:28lingering across eastern Scotland

0:00:28 > 0:00:29and north-east England.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Very slowly, that should ease away.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Further south, showers moving from west to east

0:00:34 > 0:00:36across England and Wales,

0:00:36 > 0:00:37but many areas should see

0:00:37 > 0:00:39the reappearance of sunshine on Friday,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41particularly for Northern Ireland,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44north-west and south-east England too.

0:00:44 > 0:00:454 to 9 degrees,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and much less windy than recent days.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Overnight into Saturday,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51we've got clear spells.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54There'll be mist and fog developing widely,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57particularly through central parts of England and Wales.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Colder, clearer air starting to move in from the north,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02the coldest night we've seen for a while.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05During the weekend, we'll continue that theme -

0:01:05 > 0:01:08colder air moving in from the north and north-east,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10as high pressure builds

0:01:10 > 0:01:12and brings brighter and drier weather

0:01:12 > 0:01:14in from the north.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17For Saturday, it's the northern half of the country

0:01:17 > 0:01:20that will see the reappearance of lots of sunny, dry weather,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22a cold north-easterly wind developing.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24Further south, still more cloud,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26slightly milder with outbreaks of rain too.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28So around 5 to 7 degrees

0:01:28 > 0:01:31across southern parts of England and Wales.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34For Scotland, temperatures just 2 or 3 Celsius.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36As we move into the second half of the weekend,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39it's this area of high pressure that builds across all of the country,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42so that'll quieten the weather down,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45but it'll also mean some fairly chilly weather too.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47A colder, frosty start to Sunday,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49but plenty of sunshine.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Much lighter winds than we've seen recently,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55but some parts of Scotland struggling to get above freezing

0:01:55 > 0:01:59through the day. Still temperatures 4 to 7 further south.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Scenes like this to start your new working week.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04So first thing Monday, a really sharp frost

0:02:04 > 0:02:05across all of the country.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Could be mist, fog and the odd icy stretch too,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10but Monday looks like another decent day -

0:02:10 > 0:02:14sunny spells, temperatures around 2 to 6 degrees,

0:02:14 > 0:02:15certainly colder but less windy

0:02:15 > 0:02:17than they have been recently.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19As we move into Tuesday,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22it'll be a similar start to the day.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Again, lots of places dry, sunny and rather cold,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27with temperatures around 3 to 6 degrees.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29You'll certainly notice this weather front.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Later in the day, that'll try to nudge in,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34bringing wetter and windier weather

0:02:34 > 0:02:36across western parts,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39but some uncertainty about how far east and how quickly

0:02:39 > 0:02:41any of those weather systems

0:02:41 > 0:02:42are going to arrive.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44So, from midweek onwards, we're

0:02:44 > 0:02:46looking at high pressure dominating,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48sitting to the north of the UK,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50drawing in cold air from Scandinavia,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and as the jet stream strengthens

0:02:52 > 0:02:53in the Atlantic,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55low pressure will try to move in

0:02:55 > 0:02:57from the west or the south-west.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59We could see an east-west split

0:02:59 > 0:03:01to the weather from midweek onwards,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03rain, sleet and hill snow

0:03:03 > 0:03:05arriving in the west

0:03:05 > 0:03:07with some strengthening winds.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08Towards the east, less windy,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and we're likely to hold onto

0:03:10 > 0:03:13the clearer skies and frosty conditions for longer.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14So, things will slowly turn

0:03:14 > 0:03:17milder from the west,

0:03:17 > 0:03:18it's likely to remain pretty bright

0:03:18 > 0:03:21and cold across eastern parts

0:03:21 > 0:03:23but as those weather fronts

0:03:23 > 0:03:24arrive from the west,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26we could well see some snow.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27A fairly wintry outlook.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I'll update you tomorrow. Bye-bye.
