0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. It was a sparkling Sunday for many of us -

0:00:04 > 0:00:06a hard frost, yes, but some beautiful blue sky

0:00:06 > 0:00:08and sunshine, for most, anyway.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Temperatures in the sheltered glens of Scotland

0:00:10 > 0:00:13got down to lows of -10 degrees.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15We saw some beautiful Weather Watchers' photographs sent in,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18like this, showing the frosty scenes with the lovely blue sky

0:00:18 > 0:00:20throughout the day.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23However, there are signs that the cold air is going to slowly

0:00:23 > 0:00:26be squeezed out by something a little less cold

0:00:26 > 0:00:29moving in from the Atlantic over the next couple of days.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33Monday will give a North-South divide for many, though,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35in terms of sparkling sunshine through Scotland,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37northern England and Northern Ireland.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40An easterly flow will drag in more cloud across England and Wales,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43producing a little bit of nuisance drizzle as well,

0:00:43 > 0:00:47making it feel cold and drab for much of the afternoon.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Top temperatures on Monday 2 to 6 degrees,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52down on where we should be, really, for this time of year.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Now as we move out of Monday, the winds will start to fall light,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57the drizzle ease away,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59but there could be a problem with some fog forming,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02some of it dense in places, and if that happens

0:01:02 > 0:01:05it could be pretty slow to clear away first thing

0:01:05 > 0:01:08on Tuesday morning. Not quite as cold a start on Tuesday

0:01:08 > 0:01:10but I'm sure with the fog around it's not going to feel

0:01:10 > 0:01:13particularly great out there first thing in the morning.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Hopefully the fog will slowly lift away

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and Tuesday is the sign of this slight change developing.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21A weather front pushing in from the Atlantic.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24Ahead of it, we see the wind swing round to a southerly direction,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27so that's going to introduce something a little less cold,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30which means that this will be rain rather than snow.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33But at the same time, we've still got the south-easterly flow

0:01:33 > 0:01:36dragging in more cloud along those east coasts of Scotland

0:01:36 > 0:01:40and eastern England. 3 to 5 degrees at the very best.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Milder a little bit south and west,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45but indications of that wetter weather set to push through.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Now, that will arrive overnight Tuesday

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and move into Wednesday, and for a time, some of it,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53along the west-facing coast, will be quite heavy as well.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56This weather front is going to make what we call erratic progress

0:01:56 > 0:01:59as it pushes further east. It's going to be a real messy picture

0:01:59 > 0:02:01as we go through the day,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03the rain lingering on Wednesday

0:02:03 > 0:02:05across much of the eastern half of the UK.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Behind it, slowly we'll see an improving picture.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Brighter skies, sunshine into Northern Ireland and western fringes

0:02:11 > 0:02:15by the end of the afternoon, and here, double digits quite likely.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18But as we move out of Wednesday into Thursday,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21we see this little brief ridge of high pressure developing,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25the isobars opening up and the winds falling light yet again.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26At this time of year, again,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28that could produce some problems with some fog,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31particularly with the moisture still lying around

0:02:31 > 0:02:34as that frontal system clears away. So, a foggy start to Thursday.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36There could be some rain lingering in he north-east.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40The fog will lift. Hopefully we'll see some sunny spells coming through

0:02:40 > 0:02:43with highs of around 5 to 7 degrees.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Now, as we move out of Thursday into Friday,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47we can see another weather front

0:02:47 > 0:02:50starting to push in from the Atlantic

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and this could potentially herald a change

0:02:52 > 0:02:55to the longer-term picture.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Because we started off pretty cold but quite settled,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00but as we look further ahead, it looks as though the jet stream

0:03:00 > 0:03:04is likely to intensify and sit across the UK,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06and that's going to drive these areas of low pressure

0:03:06 > 0:03:09in from the Atlantic. So all that basically means is,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12things could turn a little more unsettled

0:03:12 > 0:03:15as we move towards the end of the week and into next week.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18So generally quite unsettled, with rain at times.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19There will be some drier interludes.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22With the rain, we could see gales as well.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Temperatures improving a little, but don't expect too much.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Average for this time of year.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29More details coming up throughout the week.
