0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Monday was the day of the great British weather divide.

0:00:04 > 0:00:08Northern areas saw crisp, wintry sunshine after a frosty start.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Southern areas, it was grey and cold.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Shows up nicely on the satellite imagery here.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14You can see the cloud expanding

0:00:14 > 0:00:16northwards throughout the day. Clear skies remain,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20But at the same point one time during the afternoon,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Musselburgh and Bristol both showing two degrees

0:00:23 > 0:00:25but as our weather watchers show you,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27completely different views outdoors.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30And with the sunshine, that two degrees felt a lot better

0:00:30 > 0:00:33in Musselburgh than it did in Bristol.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34As we go through into Tuesday,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36the high pressure that was with us

0:00:36 > 0:00:38on Monday continues to push further east.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40At that allows the winds to go more southerly.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42That has taken the cloud further north.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44So a greyer day for northern England, Scotland,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Northern Ireland. Misty over the hills.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48The odd spot of light train or drizzle.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51But the clouds low based and low topped in that

0:00:51 > 0:00:54when it hits the hills, say the Scottish mountains,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56the Cumbrian fells and the Welsh mountains,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58it will break up. So, Gwyneth, Anglesey, Cumbria

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and the north and west Highlands of Scotland,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02you'll probably see sunshine all day long again.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Could it 10 or 11 degrees. A cool day for many.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06Turning milder in the south-west.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Devon and Cornwall, South Wales,

0:01:08 > 0:01:09by the end of the afternoon

0:01:09 > 0:01:12rain arrives, pushing through N Ireland in the evening.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Through Tuesday night, into Wednesday morning,

0:01:14 > 0:01:15rain pushes northwards and eastwards

0:01:15 > 0:01:17fairly erratically.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19As skies clear to the south and west of the country,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21into Wednesday morning,

0:01:21 > 0:01:22we'll see fog patches form

0:01:22 > 0:01:24and some icy conditions as well

0:01:24 > 0:01:26following rain earlier in the night.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27So for Wednesday,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29that weather front brings rain

0:01:29 > 0:01:30across eastern areas to start with.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33As there's not many isobars on the back edge of it,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35that indicates there's not much wind,

0:01:35 > 0:01:36not enough to push that off.

0:01:36 > 0:01:37So some eastern areas could stay

0:01:37 > 0:01:39cloudy and damp all day long,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41particularly through eastern England

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and also in Shetland, quite a windy day.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45But elsewhere, some fog will linger,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47but many will have a much brighter day

0:01:47 > 0:01:48on Wednesday compared with Tuesday.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50After in places a frosty start,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52actually quite pleasant when the sun is overhead,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55although temperatures in some of the Scottish mountains

0:01:55 > 0:01:56will stay close to freezing.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Wednesday night, an area of low pressure with showers

0:01:58 > 0:02:01gets close to the south-west, also the Channel Islands.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Pushes into France, high-pressure with us,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05not many isobars once again

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and that lasts for the rest of the week.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Light winds, clear skies at times overnight,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12frost and fog could be an issue by the morning.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15On Thursday, mainly across central and western areas,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17still could be a lot of cloud in the east.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Many will brighten up, sunny spells,

0:02:19 > 0:02:20a bit cool though,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22temperatures in single figures.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25With few isobars into Friday,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27it's that same repeated process.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28Like Thursday, some will see

0:02:28 > 0:02:30mist and fog to begin with.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Some of that fog may take a while to shift,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34if it does at all. There will be sunny spells,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37particularly in the west where the breeze picks up later.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38Any fog here should clear

0:02:38 > 0:02:39and that breeze picks up

0:02:39 > 0:02:41ahead of this weather front.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43This is the big question as we go into the weekend

0:02:43 > 0:02:46and beyond - how quickly this one pushes its way in.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48At the moment it looks like the south-west, Wales

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and into western Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:02:50 > 0:02:52are likely to see the rain on Saturday.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54But that could all be further west

0:02:54 > 0:02:56it could all be a bit further east,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and that's our big problem in the outlook

0:02:58 > 0:03:00as we go through into next week.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04This Scandinavian high pressure, how quickly that relinquishes its grip

0:03:04 > 0:03:06and how quickly this area of low pressure pushes in.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09Most computer models show this does happen, but it's

0:03:09 > 0:03:12the rate at which this happens which is the big uncertainty.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15So we know it looks like most places will see

0:03:15 > 0:03:17a wet and windy spell before Atlantic winds return,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20whether they're westerly on north-westerly,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22pushing us back into sunshine and showers.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25But how quickly that happens and how quickly things turn milder

0:03:25 > 0:03:28is something we'll of course keep you updated on.
