0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, thanks for joining me.
0:00:03 > 0:00:05We'll be giving you a fair amount of detail
0:00:05 > 0:00:07on how we expect to see the weather developing
0:00:07 > 0:00:09right across the British Isles over the next few days,
0:00:09 > 0:00:10and that will take us through the weekend
0:00:10 > 0:00:12and into the first part of next week.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Then we'll try and give you some themes
0:00:14 > 0:00:15about what happens next week.
0:00:15 > 0:00:16In the shorter term,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18fairly quiet spell of weather at the moment,
0:00:18 > 0:00:20a little weak ridge of high pressure, there,
0:00:20 > 0:00:22following in behind an old weather front
0:00:22 > 0:00:24that was all over the eastern side
0:00:24 > 0:00:25of the British Isles on Wednesday,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27still producing enough cloud
0:00:27 > 0:00:28for the odd bit and piece of rain, here.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30The main story, first up, though,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32across many western areas is one of fog,
0:00:32 > 0:00:33and some of that fog
0:00:33 > 0:00:35may well linger on through the day -
0:00:35 > 0:00:37but, if you manage to get rid of that,
0:00:37 > 0:00:38it is in the west
0:00:38 > 0:00:39that you're more likely to see
0:00:39 > 0:00:40the better chance of sunshine.
0:00:40 > 0:00:41Temperatures, though,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43not really responding to that -
0:00:43 > 0:00:44particularly where you hold on to the fog
0:00:44 > 0:00:46you could be down 2, 3, 4 degrees
0:00:46 > 0:00:48either in the west or in the east,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50close by to that old front.
0:00:50 > 0:00:51That old front,
0:00:51 > 0:00:52there's still enough about it
0:00:52 > 0:00:54still to be producing the odd spot of drizzle
0:00:54 > 0:00:56as we get on through Thursday night
0:00:56 > 0:00:58into the first part of Friday.
0:00:58 > 0:00:59Out towards the west, again,
0:00:59 > 0:01:02it's a combination of pretty chilly fare
0:01:02 > 0:01:05and that prospect of some fog, as well.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08Those quiet conditions look set to stay on
0:01:08 > 0:01:10into the first part of Friday, certainly,
0:01:10 > 0:01:11although we'll begin to see
0:01:11 > 0:01:13something of a change moving in
0:01:13 > 0:01:15towards the west as, initially,
0:01:15 > 0:01:16it's the breeze that picks up,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18so, I don't think Northern Ireland
0:01:18 > 0:01:19will see much of a problem with fog
0:01:19 > 0:01:20on Friday morning.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23It could still be an issue for other parts,
0:01:23 > 0:01:24but, again, it's a cloudy day,
0:01:24 > 0:01:26the odd spot of rain,
0:01:26 > 0:01:27where the cloud thickens up
0:01:27 > 0:01:28for any length of time.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30Hints of brightness, yes,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32but that's for the favoured few
0:01:32 > 0:01:34rather than for the many.
0:01:34 > 0:01:35Even on into the weekend,
0:01:35 > 0:01:37this area of low pressure
0:01:37 > 0:01:39is trying to throw that frontal system
0:01:39 > 0:01:40in towards British Isles,
0:01:40 > 0:01:41but making heavy weather of it,
0:01:41 > 0:01:43if you'll forgive the pun,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45simply because it's running into the high pressure
0:01:45 > 0:01:46dominant over Europe.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48So, the front, if you happen to get it,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50stays with you for the greater part of the day,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52and that means many western parts,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54and especially through Northern Ireland,
0:01:54 > 0:01:56and here we are, as far ahead as Sunday,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58and that weather front rather dying a death.
0:01:58 > 0:01:59Here, you'll have to join the dots
0:01:59 > 0:02:01through central and eastern parts.
0:02:01 > 0:02:02That's the remnants of that front.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Something a good deal more active
0:02:04 > 0:02:05coming in from the Atlantic
0:02:05 > 0:02:09producing very much more wet and very much more windy weather -
0:02:09 > 0:02:11and here comes that weather front.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13Gradually, we suspect, at this range -
0:02:13 > 0:02:14and it is a suspicion -
0:02:14 > 0:02:17working its way across the British Isles.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19I think that's fairly well nailed on,
0:02:19 > 0:02:20but my suspicions are raised
0:02:20 > 0:02:22about just how quickly it's going to get away
0:02:22 > 0:02:24from the eastern side of the British Isles.
0:02:24 > 0:02:25Following on behind,
0:02:25 > 0:02:26there are brighter skies,
0:02:26 > 0:02:28but, my word, I think the temperatures
0:02:28 > 0:02:30are going to begin to dip away,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32and that's because we will find ourselves
0:02:32 > 0:02:34in the first part of next week
0:02:34 > 0:02:37on the cold side of the jet stream.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39You'll see that there is mild air to be had,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41but, my word, it's away, away down
0:02:41 > 0:02:44towards the south-west of the British Isles,
0:02:44 > 0:02:45and the contrast is such
0:02:45 > 0:02:46between the colder air to the north
0:02:46 > 0:02:48and the milder air to the south
0:02:48 > 0:02:49that there will be a lot of wind generated,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51and there will be westerlies,
0:02:51 > 0:02:53and they'll rattle in a number of showers.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55Some of those really quite squally, thundery,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57and they'll be snowy on the higher ground.
0:02:57 > 0:02:58As we move towards the end of the week,
0:02:58 > 0:03:01so the low pressure moves its station
0:03:01 > 0:03:03from the north-west of us out towards the east,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05high pressure builds out towards the west,
0:03:05 > 0:03:06and that generates
0:03:06 > 0:03:09something of a north to north-westerly wind
0:03:09 > 0:03:11down and across all parts of the British Isles.
0:03:11 > 0:03:13Now, that orientation
0:03:13 > 0:03:14is pretty short-lived.
0:03:14 > 0:03:15I think what we have to work on
0:03:15 > 0:03:17for the greater part of that week
0:03:17 > 0:03:18is that it'll be often windy,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20really quite wintry, those showers,
0:03:20 > 0:03:22across the northern half of the British Isles,
0:03:22 > 0:03:23and then, with that change in orientation
0:03:23 > 0:03:24to the north,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26a bit of a short, sharp shock
0:03:26 > 0:03:28of colder weather to many parts.
