0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello once again.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05I've made much in recent days about just how quiet

0:00:05 > 0:00:06the spell of weather has been.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08Now all good things come to an end,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10things are about to change,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12so maybe no longer this sort of scene.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Very settled, quiet weather here,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17not just across Shropshire,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18across many areas.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19The reason for the change

0:00:19 > 0:00:22is that we're just beginning to squeeze up the isobars.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23So a little bit more breeze,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25just taking away that threat

0:00:25 > 0:00:27of widespread fog to start the weekend.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29There will be the odd pocket, I'm sure

0:00:29 > 0:00:31but the most noticeable change,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33certainly for western parts of the British Isles,

0:00:33 > 0:00:34is that we've got a weather front

0:00:34 > 0:00:36that's worked its way in from the Atlantic.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38It's one of those days, I'm afraid,

0:00:38 > 0:00:39certainly for Northern Ireland

0:00:39 > 0:00:40till late on and then that rain

0:00:40 > 0:00:42creeping into Western Scotland

0:00:42 > 0:00:43through western parts of Wales,

0:00:43 > 0:00:44down into the southwest of England.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Further east, the temperatures pretty close

0:00:46 > 0:00:48to where we've been of late,

0:00:48 > 0:00:49quite a flow of southeasterlies

0:00:49 > 0:00:51dragging showery bursts of rain

0:00:51 > 0:00:52up towards the northern isles,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55maybe the odd spit and spot across some of the east

0:00:55 > 0:00:56of both England and Scotland.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Here we are through the night. Not a great deal changes.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02The front rather dies a death,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04and through Sunday becomes a band of cloud that just

0:01:04 > 0:01:05wanders a bit further east,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07the wind freshening all the while

0:01:07 > 0:01:09away towards the northwestern quarter of Scotland.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Eventually it turns wet and windy here.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14But as that front moves across the south,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16whatever's left of it,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18I think it offers the opportunity of brighter skies...

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Hurrah, at last!

0:01:20 > 0:01:22..to show their hand across Wales and parts

0:01:22 > 0:01:25of the West Midlands, maybe up to the north of England

0:01:25 > 0:01:26in one or two spots,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28until through Sunday night and into Monday

0:01:28 > 0:01:29we drag this weather front down.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33Notice the flow ahead of it is south and southwesterly,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34so relatively mild.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Relative to what?

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Relative to what follows on behind -

0:01:38 > 0:01:39cold air floods in.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Monday, late Monday, the day of transition.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, we are into quite a decidedly

0:01:46 > 0:01:48different-feeling air mass.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51These the best of the temperatures on Monday.

0:01:51 > 0:01:52They drop once that weather front

0:01:52 > 0:01:53has gone through,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56because no more, as I say the south and southwesterlies -

0:01:56 > 0:01:59we crank the isobars round in to a west and northwesterly

0:01:59 > 0:02:01and follow them all the way back

0:02:01 > 0:02:03to find the origin of the air mass

0:02:03 > 0:02:05that we get in the middle part of the week.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07It is from Iceland and Greenland.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Modified, it has to be said, as it works its way

0:02:10 > 0:02:11down towards us across the seas,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13but look at these temperatures -

0:02:13 > 0:02:143, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Wintry showers abound across northern

0:02:16 > 0:02:18and western parts of the British Isles.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20It will feel that much colder

0:02:20 > 0:02:23given the strength of the wind as well.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25I suspect, that right through the middle

0:02:25 > 0:02:26of the forthcoming week

0:02:26 > 0:02:29we will have our "feels like" temperatures out

0:02:29 > 0:02:31spinning wildly to show you that it will be feeling

0:02:31 > 0:02:34much, much colder, not that you'll need us to tell you.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36What you'll also notice

0:02:36 > 0:02:38is the abundance of wintry showers

0:02:38 > 0:02:39again and again across these northern

0:02:39 > 0:02:40and western areas.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42This is Wednesday night.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44We move some moisture across the southern half

0:02:44 > 0:02:46of the British Isles on its northern flank

0:02:46 > 0:02:47because it's running through cold air,

0:02:47 > 0:02:50some of that rain is undoubtedly going to change into snow.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52We'll keep you posted on that.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54That's Wednesday night into Thursday.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56The rest of the week, quite a familiar pattern.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58A lot of westerly and a lot of it as well.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Low pressure to the north,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02high pressure somewhere out in the Atlantic.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Through the weekend, we just change the orientation -

0:03:05 > 0:03:07briefly, it has to be said.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11The winds, there will, again, be a lot of it in the northerly

0:03:11 > 0:03:12or northwesterly direction,

0:03:12 > 0:03:16but that wind easing with time as we get on through the weekend.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17So, over the next few days,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20the themes are - it will often be windy,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22It will often be wintry,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and it will feel, given the combination of those two things,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27much, much colder than of late.
