0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. A mild but miserable start to our Monday morning.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08The front that brought the rain cleared by lunchtime, but behind it

0:00:08 > 0:00:11a colder feel as north-westerly winds dragged in

0:00:11 > 0:00:13cold air right across the country.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16And it's going to stay with us at least for a few days,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18so a colder story for many.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21There will be some snow - not for all of us, but certainly much

0:00:21 > 0:00:25windier, with gales or severe gales through the middle of the week.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27And in fact, it's going to be a windy day on Tuesday.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30You can see by the amount of isobars squeezed across the UK.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32This little fella here will enhance the wintry

0:00:32 > 0:00:36showers across north-west England, Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38a mixture of rain, sleet and snow.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Accumulations are likely even at lower levels.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Really, through South Wales and south of the M4 corridor,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45it's likely to be rain.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47But it's a cold feel to the day, particularly when you

0:00:47 > 0:00:52factor in the wind and particularly on those exposed north-west coasts.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Now, as we go through the overnight period,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56it'll be a case of almost spot the difference.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59There'll be plenty of showers, some of those turning wintry at lower

0:00:59 > 0:01:02levels across the Peaks and Pennines, maybe the North midlands.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04So it'll be a cold start to Wednesday morning,

0:01:04 > 0:01:07but I suspect sheltered eastern areas may well see some

0:01:07 > 0:01:09decent dry, sunny weather conditions.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13And in comparison to the cloudy, grey story of late, that might

0:01:13 > 0:01:16come as welcome news. Fewer showers, generally, on Wednesday.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Still wintry, though, the further north and west you come.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23The change comes later on Wednesday into Thursday,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26a really deep area of low pressure on the southern flank of that low.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29We're likely to see gales or severe gales for a time,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32and on the leading edge, across central and southern Scotland,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35there's the potential for some snow.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36So keep watching the weather forecast,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39really, for the early hours of Thursday morning.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43Severe gales and some snow across southern Scotland

0:01:43 > 0:01:45could cause some disruption.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48But the good news is that it's moving at quite a pace,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and it'll rattle through quite early on on Thursday, so for the

0:01:51 > 0:01:55bulk of Thursday, not a bad day, with some sunshine coming through

0:01:55 > 0:01:59and perhaps just a tad milder in the south-east for at least a time.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02The wind direction's still coming from the north-west,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and still plenty of isobars on the chart through Friday,

0:02:04 > 0:02:08so still a cold feel, particularly in any exposure.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11And we're still likely to see a few enhanced showers with that

0:02:11 > 0:02:15north-westerly flow across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland -

0:02:15 > 0:02:18rain, sleet and snow not out of the question here.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21But there will be some sunny spells. Temperatures will struggle, though,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25two to six or seven degrees at the very best.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Now, as we move out of Friday into Saturday,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30we see these weather fronts just drifting to the south of us

0:02:30 > 0:02:34and this ridge of high pressure building, so things quietening down,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37and the winds will be a little bit lighter as we move into the weekend.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40So, some sunshine, four to eight degrees -

0:02:40 > 0:02:44again, still not particularly warm - and overnight frosts could be

0:02:44 > 0:02:46an issue, something that we've not seen of late.

0:02:46 > 0:02:51So as we go into the weekend, a cold and quieter theme. Will it last?

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Probably not. The high pressure is likely to slip off

0:02:54 > 0:02:55into the near Continent,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58allowing low pressures to move back in from the Atlantic.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And on top of that, it looks as though the jet stream is set to

0:03:01 > 0:03:06intensify right across the UK, and that may well drive in low

0:03:06 > 0:03:10pressures from the Atlantic and keep things pretty unsettled.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13So, if we're looking further ahead,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16the longer six-to-ten-day period, it does look as though it's

0:03:16 > 0:03:20going to be a pretty unsettled story, windy with gales at times.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Temperatures pretty much where they should be for this time of year.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25A lot to take in, I know.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I'll be back with you same time, same place tomorrow.
