0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. Now, we've got a very different feel to the weather

0:00:05 > 0:00:08as we head into the new working week, compared to what we've been

0:00:08 > 0:00:11used to so far and certainly what we were used to over the weekend.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14In fact, it was bitterly cold with snow and ice

0:00:14 > 0:00:17causing some issues, particularly on Sunday.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20We have so many Weather Watcher pictures of snowy scenes like these,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23from Scotland through parts of northern, central

0:00:23 > 0:00:25and eastern England.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29Now, the snow and the ice, though, is set to thaw

0:00:29 > 0:00:30and thaw quite rapidly because

0:00:30 > 0:00:33for this week things are set to turn much milder

0:00:33 > 0:00:36from the south-west, but with it things gradually

0:00:36 > 0:00:38turning a little bit more unsettled too.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41A big area of low pressure out in the Atlantic

0:00:41 > 0:00:42will be spinning around,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45dragging up this milder air from the south

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and it will start to influence our weather

0:00:47 > 0:00:49from the middle part of the week onwards.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51We start Monday off on generally a fine note,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53one weather system to the south,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55one to the north, bringing outbreaks of rain.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57This will clear away through the morning,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59same, too, as well across northern Scotland.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Then with a ridge of high pressure just building in

0:01:01 > 0:01:03it should settle things down nicely.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05We should see some good spells of sunshine.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Much quieter, much milder weather

0:01:07 > 0:01:10to what we had during the course of the weekend.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12So there'll be a few showers around,

0:01:12 > 0:01:13mostly across northern Scotland

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and across the west, too,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17but eastern areas should see some sunshine.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19A fine afternoon I think, apart from Northern Ireland as well.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Showers running into north-west England,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24northern and western Wales and the south-west

0:01:24 > 0:01:25but the Midlands eastwards

0:01:25 > 0:01:27should stay dry with sunny spells.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29A fair breeze blowing in from the west

0:01:29 > 0:01:30but on the mild side.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Temperatures 8 to 10 Celsius.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35To head-on towards Tuesday we pick up our winds

0:01:35 > 0:01:37from a more south, south-westerly direction,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39so always a warm direction whatever time of the year,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42but it will come with a lot of cloud.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Outbreaks of rain across southern and western hills in particular.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47What you really will notice

0:01:47 > 0:01:49is how mild it will be,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51with temperatures in double figures Celsius for most of us.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53As we head-on into Wednesday, like I mentioned,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55things turning a bit more unsettled.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57It looks like this secondary low,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59a feature spinning around the parent low,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01will run in towards our shores and bring us, I think,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04a spell of wet and very windy weather for a time on Wednesday.

0:02:04 > 0:02:05We could see some gales, in fact,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07across the north and the west.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09This band of rain, expected to be heavy at times,

0:02:09 > 0:02:10will spread its way eastwards.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Another mild day for England and Wales,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15but for Scotland and Northern Ireland something a bit

0:02:15 > 0:02:16cooler pushing down from the north west,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19perhaps turning some of that rain wintry over the Scottish mountains.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22High pressure tries to nudge in from the west

0:02:22 > 0:02:25but it does allow a run of north,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27north-westerly winds for a time, so Thursday is looking

0:02:27 > 0:02:28a little bit fresher,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30than what we'll start the week on.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Temperatures back into single figures for most.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Showers across the north and the west

0:02:35 > 0:02:38but we should see some sunshine across southern and eastern areas.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40It does look like that area of low pressure

0:02:40 > 0:02:42is expected to move off this near continent

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and this big area of high pressure begins to build up

0:02:45 > 0:02:46from the south west.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49But this feature could run in towards Northern Ireland

0:02:49 > 0:02:51and Scotland through Friday,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53but I think most of us on Friday,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55thanks to that area of high pressure,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58will see a lot of fine and settled conditions with some sunshine.

0:02:58 > 0:02:59On the cool side,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02but things are set to turn milder once again

0:03:02 > 0:03:04as we head on in towards the weekend

0:03:04 > 0:03:06as we pick up those west or south-westerly winds.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Now, we did think originally that big area of high pressure

0:03:10 > 0:03:12would dominate the weather as we head in towards

0:03:12 > 0:03:15the following weekend and the start of the following week

0:03:15 > 0:03:17but it does look like things are going to be a bit more unsettled.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Low pressure systems running into

0:03:19 > 0:03:20the north and the west of the UK.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22It means it will be mild,

0:03:22 > 0:03:23often windy with rain at times,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25particularly in the north-west of the UK,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27whereas further south and east we should see

0:03:27 > 0:03:29the influence of the high-pressure,

0:03:29 > 0:03:30with some sunshine at times.
