0:00:02 > 0:00:05Time to update you on the longer term prospects

0:00:05 > 0:00:07right across the British Isles.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Some certainty about the next five or six days and then there is

0:00:10 > 0:00:14a degree about how we take things forward into the heart of next week.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16New day, new low pressure.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Not with the same depth and

0:00:18 > 0:00:20intensity we saw from Storm Georgina

0:00:20 > 0:00:24but it will act as the focus for quite a bit of shower activity.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27Northern Ireland with a low close by will be at the very

0:00:27 > 0:00:28heart of those showers

0:00:28 > 0:00:31and then a raft of showers will work their way into the southern

0:00:31 > 0:00:35part of Scotland and widely across the western side of England

0:00:35 > 0:00:37and Wales for the mid part of the afternoon.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40Separate showers getting into the Northern

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and Western Isles north of mainland Scotland.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44And then a drier and brighter interlude

0:00:44 > 0:00:48until we pick up on that rather showery theme I was describing.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Southern parts of Scotland, the north and west of England,

0:00:51 > 0:00:55much of Wales too seeing more than your fair share of showers.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57The best of the sunshine for England perhaps to the

0:00:57 > 0:00:59East Midlands, Lincolnshire towards East Anglia.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02One or two showers running into Kent and Sussex.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05A fresher feel to the day than was the case at the start of the week.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09By Friday we reinforce that fresher feel

0:01:09 > 0:01:13because the breezes will be coming down from the north and north-west.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16On what will be essentially a lovely day.

0:01:16 > 0:01:21Cool start and not the warmest of days despite all that sunshine.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24Still a peppering of showers along the eastern shores

0:01:24 > 0:01:27and late on we'll fill in the cloud with some rain

0:01:27 > 0:01:30likely from a weakening frontal system which is the forerunner

0:01:30 > 0:01:35of something a little more active just in time for the weekend

0:01:35 > 0:01:36for western areas.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40The east tending to be that little bit drier for the greater

0:01:40 > 0:01:44part of the day. Some progress on this frontal system.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47The rain in southern portions lighter and patchier

0:01:47 > 0:01:51but many of us getting back towards double figures.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55I think that will be the trend for much of the weekend.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58By Sunday this run of mild air is coming up

0:01:58 > 0:02:02and around this high pressure and up and across Britain.

0:02:02 > 0:02:06Moisture laden, close to that weather front there will be

0:02:06 > 0:02:11more wind and rain but many of us a little sunshine but a lot of cloud.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14A high of 11, 12, possibly even 13.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Not a lot of difference as I take you from Sunday to Monday,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19certainly for the southern portions of Britain.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22But the weather front comes that bit further south

0:02:22 > 0:02:25and that's important if you happen to be on its northern flank

0:02:25 > 0:02:27because brighter skies yes,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30but the temperatures taking a little bit of a dip.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34The mildest air near to or to the south of that front.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38This is where it gets murky with regard to specific detail

0:02:38 > 0:02:44but we think there is a trend to push that cooler regime

0:02:44 > 0:02:47further south but by the middle

0:02:47 > 0:02:50part of the week there are signs

0:02:50 > 0:02:52that high pressure will try to dominate

0:02:52 > 0:02:55the weather across the southern parts of Britain.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59But that will keep the door open for a succession of low pressures

0:02:59 > 0:03:03to bring wet and windy weather across the northern half of Britain.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07Further ahead again we suspect that will be a blip

0:03:07 > 0:03:10because we'll push the high pressure further up the western

0:03:10 > 0:03:13side of Britain, but that will allow a north-easterly run of winds

0:03:13 > 0:03:18to be established and that is not a warm direction.

0:03:18 > 0:03:23So driest in the south, some mist and fog around, perhaps some frost.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Wet and windy with lows coming in across the north

0:03:25 > 0:03:28but there is a deal of uncertainty about all of that.
