0:00:02 > 0:00:04High pressure and the position of high pressure

0:00:04 > 0:00:05is going to play a crucial role in the forecast

0:00:05 > 0:00:07for the next ten days,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09but on Thursday, it was low pressure

0:00:09 > 0:00:11that gave us quite a few showers

0:00:11 > 0:00:12across the UK.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Some heavy and thundery downpours

0:00:14 > 0:00:15around there as well,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17but that low pressure there is moving away

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and we've got this bump of high pressure coming in,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22settling things down ahead of everything

0:00:22 > 0:00:25then beginning to come in from off the Atlantic.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27The upshot is that Friday should be a decent day.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Very few showers left by the morning,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31the cloud a little more reluctant

0:00:31 > 0:00:33to break across central and eastern England,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35but otherwise a fine dry day with light winds,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37some good spells of sunshine,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38probably clouding over a bit more

0:00:38 > 0:00:40in Northern Ireland later on

0:00:40 > 0:00:42ahead of some rain coming in from the Atlantic.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43Temperatures, not bad -

0:00:43 > 0:00:45seven, eight, maybe even nine degrees.

0:00:45 > 0:00:46A bit chillier in Scotland

0:00:46 > 0:00:48because we'll have a frosty start.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50That rain that's coming in from the Atlantic

0:00:50 > 0:00:52on that weather front there just sort of fizzles out.

0:00:52 > 0:00:56It gets swamped by a big low coming in south of Iceland

0:00:56 > 0:00:58and a more active weather front,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59that warm front there,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00and this is the weather front

0:01:00 > 0:01:02that will bring most of the rain.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03That's arriving on Saturday.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05There could be some heavier rain

0:01:05 > 0:01:06together with some stronger winds,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08particularly across some western hills,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10but the rain becomes lighter and more patchy

0:01:10 > 0:01:11as it pushes its way eastwards

0:01:11 > 0:01:12and eventually some sunshine

0:01:12 > 0:01:14particularly across Scotland

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and Northern Ireland, but it will be windy,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18drawing in some mild air, mind you,

0:01:18 > 0:01:19so temperatures on Saturday will be higher

0:01:19 > 0:01:22than we're expecting on Friday.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Some windy weather, though,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24across northern parts of the UK

0:01:24 > 0:01:27as that low pressure moves very close by

0:01:27 > 0:01:28and then we've got another system

0:01:28 > 0:01:30coming in from the Atlantic,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32a very flat sort of wave here,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34a little area of low pressure on that weather front.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36It means most of the rain will be across western Scotland.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Some other hills could see

0:01:38 > 0:01:39a little rain and drizzle.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40A lot of cloud around.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42It'll be windy out there as well,

0:01:42 > 0:01:43but if you break up the cloud

0:01:43 > 0:01:44to the east of high ground,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47then temperatures could be even higher than that,

0:01:47 > 0:01:48possibly 14 or 15 degrees.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Even in the cloud, it's a mild, but rather windy day.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53It'll stay quite windy, actually, overnight,

0:01:53 > 0:01:54that area of low pressure

0:01:54 > 0:01:56takes the rain away from Scotland

0:01:56 > 0:01:57and this cold front,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59this weather front moves its way southwards

0:01:59 > 0:02:01during Monday so we'll see some rain

0:02:01 > 0:02:04spilling slowly southwards into England and Wales.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Behind it, we'll get into some slightly colder air.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09There'll be some sunshine around,

0:02:09 > 0:02:10but there'll be some stronger winds

0:02:10 > 0:02:12across northern Scotland again

0:02:12 > 0:02:13and there may be one or two showers.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15We've still got that rain across the south

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and it could be still affecting

0:02:17 > 0:02:19southern parts of England, perhaps even on Tuesday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21A bit of uncertainty about that.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Otherwise, some bright weather and some sunshine,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25but there's more rain arriving in the north-west

0:02:25 > 0:02:26later on in the day

0:02:26 > 0:02:27and as we head into

0:02:27 > 0:02:28the middle part of next week,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30it looks like an area of low pressure

0:02:30 > 0:02:31will trundle across the UK,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33pushing rain eastwards,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34picking up the winds

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and changing the wind direction,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38so we'll start to draw in a colder

0:02:38 > 0:02:40north-westerly wind.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41Probably only for a while

0:02:41 > 0:02:43because mild air is not far away.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Now, we had this scenario

0:02:45 > 0:02:47with high pressure building up more

0:02:47 > 0:02:49across the western side of the UK,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51allowing us to get into

0:02:51 > 0:02:52some colder winds.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Now, that scenario is less likely.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56What's more likely

0:02:56 > 0:02:58is for the high pressure

0:02:58 > 0:02:59to build in a slightly different way

0:02:59 > 0:03:02so it's going to be more flat.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03It's going to be a flatter high pressure,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05more across the southern half of the UK,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07allowing areas of low pressure

0:03:07 > 0:03:09to get steered to the north.

0:03:09 > 0:03:10Now, what does that mean?

0:03:10 > 0:03:11Well, it means,

0:03:11 > 0:03:12as we head into the outlook

0:03:12 > 0:03:14across the south,

0:03:14 > 0:03:15it's going to be drier.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16Close to high pressure, of course,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17but with light winds,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19there may be some frost and fog.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21For northern parts of the UK,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22we're going to find spells of rain

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and some showers. Much more changeable

0:03:24 > 0:03:26because it's often going to be windy

0:03:26 > 0:03:27with the chance of some gales.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
