0:00:02 > 0:00:03It's going to be a real rollercoaster ride

0:00:03 > 0:00:06over the week ahead and you'll see what I mean

0:00:06 > 0:00:09when we took a look in more detail at the outlook.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Friday, though, was the coldest day

0:00:11 > 0:00:13of the past few days,

0:00:13 > 0:00:14but at least we had some sunshine

0:00:14 > 0:00:16and most places were fine and dry.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Things are turning milder this weekend.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21We're getting Atlantic winds strengthening

0:00:21 > 0:00:23and the milder air comes in behind

0:00:23 > 0:00:25this weather front here,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27which is driven by a deep low pressure

0:00:27 > 0:00:28heading close to Iceland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29So, here's the rain

0:00:29 > 0:00:31coming on that weather front.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32It could be quite a heavy rain

0:00:32 > 0:00:34in the morning across some western hills.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Through the afternoon, the rain pushing eastwards

0:00:36 > 0:00:37becomes light and patchy.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40We keep a lot of cloud for most of England and Wales.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41More likely to see the sunshine

0:00:41 > 0:00:43in Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:43 > 0:00:44accompanied by a few showers,

0:00:44 > 0:00:45quite windy here as well.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47For many of us, quite a blustery sort of day,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49but it's a mild day.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Temperatures higher than they were on Friday.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53That deep area of low pressure

0:00:53 > 0:00:56could bring some severe gales, though,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58across the far north of Scotland overnight

0:00:58 > 0:01:00before the winds ease down a touch

0:01:00 > 0:01:02and then we've got this returning frontal system

0:01:02 > 0:01:04which is making a beeline for Scotland,

0:01:04 > 0:01:07where we'll see some outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Many other areas look like being dry on Sunday.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12It looked like being quite cloudy as well.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13It'll be breezy out there,

0:01:13 > 0:01:14but very mild -

0:01:14 > 0:01:16temperatures probably even higher on Sunday,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18even in the cloud, but if you do get some sunshine

0:01:18 > 0:01:21where we've got a bit of shelter from the high ground

0:01:21 > 0:01:23such as Cheshire, north-east Wales,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24it could be 15 degrees.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26That's probably going to be the best it gets

0:01:26 > 0:01:27over the next few days.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Things are changing on Monday

0:01:29 > 0:01:31because that weather front that was bringing

0:01:31 > 0:01:32the rain across the north

0:01:32 > 0:01:34is going to edge its way southwards

0:01:34 > 0:01:35so we'll see the weather changing

0:01:35 > 0:01:37across northern parts of the UK,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39drier conditions following in here.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41There's our area of rain and just ahead of it,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44we could have some really quite strong and gusty winds.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46The rain arriving across southern England in the day.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48It's here we'll see the highest temperatures.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50A bit of sunshine further north,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52but things are beginning to cool down a touch.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53That weather front bringing the rain

0:01:53 > 0:01:55is sitting to the south of the UK.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56Probably by Tuesday,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58the bump of high pressure

0:01:58 > 0:01:59means a chilly night ahead.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01However, these weather fronts

0:02:01 > 0:02:02are coming back in again from the Atlantic,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04never fully clearing away,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06so it may well be a chilly start,

0:02:06 > 0:02:07bright start with some sunshine,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09particularly for eastern areas.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11But then we see this rain coming back in again

0:02:11 > 0:02:12from the south-west

0:02:12 > 0:02:15and it could be quite heavy rain for a while as well,

0:02:15 > 0:02:16but things are moving fairly quickly,

0:02:16 > 0:02:17the winds picking up.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19That rain rushes its way eastwards

0:02:19 > 0:02:21into the near-continent

0:02:21 > 0:02:22and instead we get some sunshine

0:02:22 > 0:02:23following on behind on Wednesday

0:02:23 > 0:02:25and some showers.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26Quite a range of temperatures -

0:02:26 > 0:02:285 degrees, chilly in Glasgow,

0:02:28 > 0:02:2910 degrees in London.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32So, as we head later on into the week,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34low pressure sitting very close to the UK.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36The rain having pushed through,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37we're going to keep the showers going.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40There'll be quite a chilly wind as well

0:02:40 > 0:02:41and with that low pressure

0:02:41 > 0:02:42and that sort of wind direction,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44we're drawing down some colder air.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Now, this is where we get the rollercoaster.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48You can see this fluctuation in temperatures.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50It goes all the way across

0:02:50 > 0:02:51the other side of the Atlantic

0:02:51 > 0:02:54and that fluctuation will propagate its way

0:02:54 > 0:02:55across the Atlantic into the UK.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57It's all due to the position

0:02:57 > 0:02:58of the jet stream, of course,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00the upper level winds

0:03:00 > 0:03:02moving their way northwards

0:03:02 > 0:03:03and then southwards

0:03:03 > 0:03:04and for the surface winds,

0:03:04 > 0:03:05the winds that we will feel,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07you get this change one day

0:03:07 > 0:03:08from a northerly,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10one day to a south-westerly

0:03:10 > 0:03:11and back to a northerly

0:03:11 > 0:03:13as that pattern moves across the Atlantic.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15So where we have the northerly winds

0:03:15 > 0:03:16or the north-westerly winds,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17it'll be colder.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19There'll be more sunshine around them,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21maybe some showers, too.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23When we have the south-westerly winds,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24it means we'll have more cloud.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26There's perhaps the chance of some rain,

0:03:26 > 0:03:27but it will also be much milder.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
