0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Sunday was only a few days ago but in the world of weather,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06it's a long time ago because on Sunday,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08some of us had 15 Celsius.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Those same parts closer to five Celsius

0:00:10 > 0:00:12over the next few days. Now, already this week,

0:00:12 > 0:00:14temperatures have taken a dip

0:00:14 > 0:00:17but over the next 24 hours, they go down even further.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Proper cold air coming in on a strengthening wind

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and more wintry showers towards Scotland

0:00:22 > 0:00:24and Northern Ireland, with an icy start

0:00:24 > 0:00:25for some of us here Wednesday morning

0:00:25 > 0:00:27and those showers coming infrequently towards

0:00:27 > 0:00:30western Scotland, Northern Ireland during the day

0:00:30 > 0:00:32and some developing into north-west England and the Pennines.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35Wintry showers, that means rain, sleet,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37snow mainly on hills but not exclusively so.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40Hail, maybe some rumbles of thunder too.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Southern parts of England and Wales start the day

0:00:42 > 0:00:44with outbreaks of rain. They clear to sunshine

0:00:44 > 0:00:47and a few showers and those are your temperatures

0:00:47 > 0:00:49by the end of the afternoon, 3-7 Celsius,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51feeling colder in the wind.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53That wind stays with us on Wednesday night,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55in fact for north-east Scotland and the Northern Isles,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58close to low pressure, a spell of severe gales.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01And going into Thursday, there is more of a northerly component

0:01:01 > 0:01:04to the weather so it feels every bit as chilly on Thursday.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Still those wintry showers, Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08fewer showers elsewhere

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and even some of these showers tend to fade.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13So, more in the way of dry, sunnier weather into the afternoon.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Then a widespread frost on Friday morning

0:01:15 > 0:01:17as briefly high pressure builds in.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19So a lot of fine, dry weather on Friday,

0:01:19 > 0:01:20North Sea coastal showers

0:01:20 > 0:01:22and then increasing cloud and outbreaks of rain

0:01:22 > 0:01:25edging in towards parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:01:25 > 0:01:29by the end of Friday as this weather system comes in from the Atlantic.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Timed for the start of the weekend, running into cold air

0:01:32 > 0:01:35which means some of us won't just get rain out of this

0:01:35 > 0:01:37but a chance for sleet and snow on its leading edge,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40particularly into parts of northern England and Scotland

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and perhaps not just on hills, so we'll keep an eye on that.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45And the wet weather never properly clearing away

0:01:45 > 0:01:48from parts of eastern England. And going into Sunday,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51close to this area of low pressure that forms along the weather front,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53central and eastern parts of England,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56cloudy, cold, damp and maybe not just with rain

0:01:56 > 0:02:00but a chance for a bit of sleet and snow for a time here as well.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01So we'll keep an eye on that.

0:02:01 > 0:02:02North and west of the UK,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05pressure building so fairer skies here

0:02:05 > 0:02:08and some sunshine, a drier picture for Sunday.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Now, as we start next week, it is high pressure,

0:02:10 > 0:02:13frosty start to the week but then we get another weather system

0:02:13 > 0:02:16poised to come in from the Atlantic, followed by high pressure again,

0:02:16 > 0:02:17followed by another weather system.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20So it is looking changeable into the start of next week.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22But further ahead, end of next week

0:02:22 > 0:02:23and the following week,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26if you were watching the last Weather For The Week Ahead,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28we said there's a chance high pressure will build in

0:02:28 > 0:02:30from Scandinavia with a very cold

0:02:30 > 0:02:32easterly wind coming with it.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34This is now looking less likely,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36not out of the question, less likely.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38More likely, looking further ahead,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41it's the Azores high pressure that'll be influential,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43that means coming in from the south-west of the UK

0:02:43 > 0:02:45with a chilly north-westerly flow.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47But with this scenario,

0:02:47 > 0:02:51the high pressure we think will occasionally drift south again,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55allowing low pressure to come across it from the Atlantic

0:02:55 > 0:02:57and into the UK, turning things perhaps a little less cold

0:02:57 > 0:02:59but with a spell of wind and rain.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02So, actually, the more likely picture for the end of next week

0:03:02 > 0:03:05and beyond is the continuation of the current set-up.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08High pressure, low pressure, high pressure, low pressure.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10With high pressure, it is colder,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12it's drier, though there could well be some wintry showers.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15With low pressure coming in, it's a little less cold

0:03:15 > 0:03:16with spells of wind and rain

0:03:16 > 0:03:19but perhaps some snow, particularly to northern hills.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23So, still looking further ahead, some variety in our weather

0:03:23 > 0:03:25but not the extreme variety and temperatures

0:03:25 > 0:03:27we've had in the past week.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's the latest weather for the week ahead.
