0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, there. We may have started February, a new month,
0:00:04 > 0:00:07on Thursday, but the Arctic air returned with a vengeance.
0:00:07 > 0:00:09It was bitterly cold in the wind,
0:00:09 > 0:00:11we had weather watcher pictures
0:00:11 > 0:00:13such as this from near Fort William,
0:00:13 > 0:00:14a ski resort, sent in.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16Yes, we've had more snowfall,
0:00:16 > 0:00:17and with that Arctic air flow
0:00:17 > 0:00:18staying with us
0:00:18 > 0:00:20through Friday and into the weekend -
0:00:20 > 0:00:21the likelihood is,
0:00:21 > 0:00:22we'll see more snowfall.
0:00:22 > 0:00:23Probably not as much on Friday,
0:00:23 > 0:00:25because the winds are easing out,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27we've got a little ridge of high pressure building in,
0:00:27 > 0:00:29but the risk of ice is still with us first thing -
0:00:29 > 0:00:30at least in eastern areas,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32where there could be a wintry mix to the showers,
0:00:32 > 0:00:33as there could for the north of Scotland,
0:00:33 > 0:00:34but, by and large,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36the winds will be lighter than Thursday.
0:00:36 > 0:00:37There'll be fewer showers,
0:00:37 > 0:00:38more sunshine -
0:00:38 > 0:00:40one or two for the west, as you can see -
0:00:40 > 0:00:42but, by and large, lovely, crisp sunshine.
0:00:42 > 0:00:44It's not going to feel warm,
0:00:44 > 0:00:45but it won't feel as bitter
0:00:45 > 0:00:46as it did on Thursday -
0:00:46 > 0:00:47and, already, by the end of the day,
0:00:47 > 0:00:49we've got the next weather system coming in.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51That's this, well, slightly milder air,
0:00:51 > 0:00:53which will get squeezed out
0:00:53 > 0:00:54as it comes into the cold air,
0:00:54 > 0:00:55the blocking cold air,
0:00:55 > 0:00:58that's sitting across the eastern side of Europe,
0:00:58 > 0:00:59and that, again, happens
0:00:59 > 0:01:00later Monday into Tuesday,
0:01:00 > 0:01:02so we're going to see a succession
0:01:02 > 0:01:03of weather systems
0:01:03 > 0:01:04coming in off the Atlantic,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06starting with a lot of moisture -
0:01:06 > 0:01:08but that moisture gets squeezed out
0:01:08 > 0:01:09by this cold air,
0:01:09 > 0:01:12which is just sitting in its way of progress,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14and, really, that sums up most of the week ahead.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16So, the first one comes in Saturday,
0:01:16 > 0:01:17into that cold air.
0:01:17 > 0:01:18Yes, there will be some wintriness around,
0:01:18 > 0:01:21but it tends to start to peter out,
0:01:21 > 0:01:22so it just looks cold and damp
0:01:22 > 0:01:23for many of us.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25A little bit of wintriness,
0:01:25 > 0:01:26and still the north-easterly
0:01:26 > 0:01:27starting to pick up
0:01:27 > 0:01:29across the eastern side of England,
0:01:29 > 0:01:30where, actually, we could have some sunshine.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32So, that weather front is still with us
0:01:32 > 0:01:34as we go through Saturday night into Sunday,
0:01:34 > 0:01:36but it's coming into our high pressure,
0:01:36 > 0:01:37our cold air,
0:01:37 > 0:01:38so it's tending to peter out.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40So, Sunday just looks cloudy to start,
0:01:40 > 0:01:42with still a smattering of rain or sleet around,
0:01:42 > 0:01:43but some good sunshine coming out
0:01:43 > 0:01:45in Northern Ireland, Western Scotland,
0:01:45 > 0:01:47but the easterly feed, or the north-easterly feed,
0:01:47 > 0:01:48starts to pick up,
0:01:48 > 0:01:51and we could actually see some snow
0:01:51 > 0:01:53as we go through Sunday night and into Monday
0:01:53 > 0:01:56across the south-eastern quadrant of the country,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58so, that could cause some issues, of course,
0:01:58 > 0:02:00depending on how far west it pushes,
0:02:00 > 0:02:01and, by that stage,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03we've already got the next weather system
0:02:03 > 0:02:04coming in off the Atlantic
0:02:04 > 0:02:06into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
0:02:06 > 0:02:08so, posing a risk of some snow later on,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10and certainly so through Monday night
0:02:10 > 0:02:11and into Tuesday -
0:02:11 > 0:02:13and the question mark is how quickly
0:02:13 > 0:02:15and how far eastwards that'll come.
0:02:15 > 0:02:16At the moment,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18it looks set to fizzle out again,
0:02:18 > 0:02:20if you like, across central parts of the UK,
0:02:20 > 0:02:21so, again, there's a real risk
0:02:21 > 0:02:23that we could see some snowfall
0:02:23 > 0:02:24around during Tuesday,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26particularly Western areas -
0:02:26 > 0:02:28but, again, we've got those showers,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30initially in the south and the east,
0:02:30 > 0:02:31and there'll be quite a brisk wind blowing,
0:02:31 > 0:02:33so we could see scenes like this,
0:02:33 > 0:02:34some disruption,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36because of that snow as we move into Tuesday.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38You can see the trend, here, can't you?
0:02:38 > 0:02:40Because, again, later in the week,
0:02:40 > 0:02:41we've got another area
0:02:41 > 0:02:43of slightly milder, moister air
0:02:43 > 0:02:44coming off the Atlantic,
0:02:44 > 0:02:47but it comes into that cold, blocking air,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49and, again, as it falls into that cold air,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51there could be some wintry issues,
0:02:51 > 0:02:53and the mild air just tends to disappear,
0:02:53 > 0:02:55it gets squeezed out,
0:02:55 > 0:02:56so, later in the week, again,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58we could see some issues with snow,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00because that cold air
0:03:00 > 0:03:01is reluctant to move away.
0:03:01 > 0:03:03So, it will be cold,
0:03:03 > 0:03:04we'll have night-time frost,
0:03:04 > 0:03:05risk of ice,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07certainly a risk of some snow,
0:03:07 > 0:03:09which could be disruptive -
0:03:09 > 0:03:10but there's just the hint
0:03:10 > 0:03:12that towards the weekend, at least,
0:03:12 > 0:03:14it may become a little bit milder -
0:03:14 > 0:03:15but, again, the jury's out.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17As ever, we'll keep you posted.
0:03:17 > 0:03:19The warnings, there, on the website, as well,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22and we'll have more for you tomorrow evening. Bye-bye.
