0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello. Thanks for joining me.
0:00:03 > 0:00:06As ever, we'll be taking a detailed look at the next few days,
0:00:06 > 0:00:07then we'll push it further
0:00:07 > 0:00:09into the six- to ten-day period.
0:00:09 > 0:00:10First, I want to do a resume
0:00:10 > 0:00:12of January, starting with
0:00:12 > 0:00:14starting with temperatures.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16The bluer the colour,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18below-par temperatures,
0:00:18 > 0:00:19and that was the way for Scotland
0:00:19 > 0:00:21and Northern Ireland. The pinker
0:00:21 > 0:00:24the shades were where you had a wee bit of heat,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26and January brought 14, 15 degrees
0:00:26 > 0:00:28in one or two spots.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30If we look at the rainfall,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32it is more of a west east
0:00:32 > 0:00:34rather than a north south,
0:00:34 > 0:00:35the wettest weather in the west,
0:00:35 > 0:00:37the driest conditions in the
0:00:37 > 0:00:39northeast of Scotland,
0:00:39 > 0:00:42where you had some decent spells of sunshine through the month.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45We replicate that scene of the driest weather
0:00:45 > 0:00:47over towards the east
0:00:47 > 0:00:48as we start Saturday,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50because the west has weather fronts
0:00:50 > 0:00:52bringing leaden skies,
0:00:52 > 0:00:54not an awful lot of rain
0:00:54 > 0:00:57but it's there for the greater part of the day.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59Over the highest ground,
0:00:59 > 0:01:00we'll see some snow -
0:01:00 > 0:01:02the Pennines, Southern Uplands,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04the Grampians as well.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07Perhaps brighter in the far west of Scotland
0:01:07 > 0:01:10and Northern Ireland later in the day,
0:01:10 > 0:01:13and not too much in the way of rain in East Anglia,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15but look at the temperatures -
0:01:15 > 0:01:173 degrees in Birmingham, 3, 4, 5 elsewhere.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19Sunday - a different beast.
0:01:19 > 0:01:20The front fizzles away,
0:01:20 > 0:01:22a lot of cloud around,
0:01:22 > 0:01:26the wind across the southeast really notable.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29I show 5, 6 or 7 - it will feel much colder.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32There may be winteriness about those showers.
0:01:32 > 0:01:35With pressure trying to build through that front,
0:01:35 > 0:01:38through Sunday so it will tend to fizzle,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41Monday - a fairly quiet day
0:01:41 > 0:01:43once you take away the strength of the east
0:01:43 > 0:01:45and north-easterly winds,
0:01:45 > 0:01:47so still feeling pretty raw.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49Look at those temperatures -
0:01:49 > 0:01:503, 4, 5 degrees.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53It's still a cloudy day
0:01:53 > 0:01:56and as we go into Tuesday,
0:01:56 > 0:01:59we bring in an Atlantic front in,
0:01:59 > 0:02:02initially to the north and west of Scotland,
0:02:02 > 0:02:03Northern Ireland,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06but this could bring a wee bit of snow
0:02:06 > 0:02:08more widely across northern and western
0:02:08 > 0:02:11parts of England, parts of Wales,
0:02:11 > 0:02:14and no great surprise, given those temperatures.
0:02:14 > 0:02:162, 3, 4, 5 degrees again.
0:02:16 > 0:02:20Rather like the front I was talking about for the weekend,
0:02:20 > 0:02:24as that tries to work its way through this ridge of high pressure,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26so it tends to weaken and fizzle,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29and the last of it staggers its way down into
0:02:29 > 0:02:31the southeast, maybe still winteriness
0:02:31 > 0:02:33across the higher ground here,
0:02:33 > 0:02:36brighter skies following on behind,
0:02:36 > 0:02:39but over my shoulder is the next set of weather fronts
0:02:39 > 0:02:41trying to work their way
0:02:41 > 0:02:42in from the Atlantic.
0:02:42 > 0:02:44Whenever you see these tongues
0:02:44 > 0:02:47of warmth, with the yellows
0:02:47 > 0:02:49rather than the blues,
0:02:49 > 0:02:50that's where we're expecting to see
0:02:50 > 0:02:52the fronts coming in,
0:02:52 > 0:02:54with that possibility of a bit of
0:02:54 > 0:02:56moisture falling into this cold air,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58so there could be wintry showers,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00particularly on higher ground,
0:03:00 > 0:03:02but you get the sense the mild air
0:03:02 > 0:03:03is quite a way away from the
0:03:03 > 0:03:06British Isles, and we, for the most part in the coming week,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08are stuck with that cold air
0:03:08 > 0:03:09close by to us.
0:03:09 > 0:03:11But the air isn't flooding at us
0:03:11 > 0:03:13from Greenland and Iceland.
0:03:13 > 0:03:14More and more, it's coming from
0:03:14 > 0:03:16the Eastern Seaboard of the States
0:03:16 > 0:03:18so I think the chances of there
0:03:18 > 0:03:20being an awful lot of snow reduce
0:03:20 > 0:03:22and it'll be outbreaks of rain
0:03:22 > 0:03:24and it'll turn slightly less cold
0:03:24 > 0:03:26but there are a lot of isobars on that chart.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28It could be really quite windy across northern Britain.
