0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. The frost on Wednesday night a lot more limited compared

0:00:04 > 0:00:07to what we had the previous night, so not quite as chilly for many

0:00:07 > 0:00:09into Thursday and the reason lies with the position

0:00:09 > 0:00:11of the jet stream. We've mentioned it all week.

0:00:11 > 0:00:12It stretches across the Atlantic.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15It's pretty strong at the moment and it's coming out at North America.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18It's important because it separates cold air to the north

0:00:18 > 0:00:19and warmer air to the south -

0:00:19 > 0:00:22the blues and the orange colours on there.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Now little ripples of that will send slightly milder air our way

0:00:25 > 0:00:26at times and one little ripple is

0:00:26 > 0:00:27heading our way for Thursday.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Now it's a weather front on that ripple

0:00:29 > 0:00:30which will bring cloud across

0:00:30 > 0:00:32parts of northern England, Wales,

0:00:32 > 0:00:33north-west Midlands

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and the south-west throughout the day,

0:00:35 > 0:00:36a threat of some rain or

0:00:36 > 0:00:37drizzle in the morning,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39but something heavier to end the day.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41So north of it, Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44we've still got milder air compared to what

0:00:44 > 0:00:46we're used to but a few wintry flurries possible

0:00:46 > 0:00:47in the far north-west.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Sunny spells in between

0:00:48 > 0:00:50and the south-east after a chilly start,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52because the cloud builds and the breeze picks up,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54It's not going to warm up in any great hurry.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56But by the end of Thursday and into Thursday evening,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58some heavier rain pushes in from the west

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and that will work its way eastwards.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02The cold front which is barely a feature

0:01:02 > 0:01:04as we start Thursday becomes

0:01:04 > 0:01:06more of a one through the night into Friday.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08It'll start to clear, opens the door to north-westerly winds

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and taps back in to that pool

0:01:10 > 0:01:12of cold air I showed you earlier on.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13It turns chillier on Friday,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15early rain across East Anglia

0:01:15 > 0:01:17and the south-east clears, sunny spells.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Showers in the morning,

0:01:18 > 0:01:19mixture of rain, hail, sleet and snow,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21turning primarily to snow

0:01:21 > 0:01:22later on, across Western Scotland,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24Northern Ireland, giving a covering in places,

0:01:24 > 0:01:25but some sunshine in between

0:01:25 > 0:01:27and more sunshine than showers

0:01:27 > 0:01:29through the second part of the day through many areas,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31but temperatures back into single figures

0:01:31 > 0:01:32and dropping away later on across the south.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34That leads us into a cold night.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37The cold air is back in its place but another ripple in the jet stream

0:01:37 > 0:01:39sends another finger of something milder towards us.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42It's going to take all day for this weather front

0:01:42 > 0:01:43to come in on Saturday fully

0:01:43 > 0:01:45and on the forward edge, of course,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47we've got that cold air in place.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Quite a bit of snowfall on the hills of Scotland

0:01:49 > 0:01:51as this Atlantic weather front pushes its way in,

0:01:51 > 0:01:52maybe too in the northern Pennines,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54north of the Welsh hills,

0:01:54 > 0:01:55but it turns back to rain

0:01:55 > 0:01:56as south-westerly winds dominate.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Most places will see rain during the day

0:01:58 > 0:01:59on Saturday, East Anglia

0:01:59 > 0:02:00and the south-east may stay dry

0:02:00 > 0:02:02until we get into the evening,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04bright conditions across the north later on,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06but temperatures up to 10 degrees in one or two spots,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08thanks to that south-westerly flow.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09That, then, is pushed off

0:02:09 > 0:02:11into the near continent through Sunday night.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14There's a potential on our weather fronts for quite a nasty area

0:02:14 > 0:02:17of low pressure to develop, so one to watch some Saturday night,

0:02:17 > 0:02:18we could see gales,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20or severe gales, to talk us into Sunday

0:02:20 > 0:02:21and quite a bit of snowfall

0:02:21 > 0:02:22across the Scottish mountains

0:02:22 > 0:02:24before we go back into the cold north-westerly winds.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Sleet and snow flurries possible just about anywhere

0:02:27 > 0:02:29across the country thanks to the strength of the wind,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31most frequently in the north and west

0:02:31 > 0:02:32and the snow really accumulating

0:02:32 > 0:02:35on the Scottish mountains and the Irish hills.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37But temperatures dropping again once more.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41So a cold night follows Sunday night into Monday. The breeze will stop

0:02:41 > 0:02:43the temperatures from dropping too much but still a frost

0:02:43 > 0:02:45and some ice around into the new working week

0:02:45 > 0:02:47and of course half-term for some of you.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50It'll be a half-term to keep the woollens handy

0:02:50 > 0:02:52because still some wintry showers

0:02:52 > 0:02:54in the west to begin with.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Best of sunshine in the east on Monday,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57but as the south-westerly winds come in later,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00some of the snow will turn back to rain and sleet

0:03:00 > 0:03:02and temperatures will slowly creep up later.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05So, into next week, then, we've still got that jet stream rushing

0:03:05 > 0:03:08out of North America, but notice we've got this bigger dip

0:03:08 > 0:03:11starting to form in it and when we get a big dip like that, we get

0:03:11 > 0:03:14an area of low pressure which becomes stubbornly sat and it

0:03:14 > 0:03:17sits next week to the north of the Atlantic

0:03:17 > 0:03:19and it will have an influence.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Now, we could see weather fronts run around it,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23even smaller areas of low pressure at times.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25We're always on the colder side, so, overall,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27next week, it will stay cold,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30some milder and wetter spells and pretty windy at times too.

0:03:30 > 0:03:31Take care.
