0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. We've seen unusually heavy snowfall this week in Moscow,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07Madrid, Paris and record low temperatures in Lanzarote.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08The blue colours, the cold air extends

0:00:08 > 0:00:10across much of Europe at the moment.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Look out into the west, though, in the Atlantic.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14These yellow colours something less cold

0:00:14 > 0:00:15and it's rippling towards us

0:00:15 > 0:00:18like waves crashing on a beach as we see the Atlantic jet stream

0:00:18 > 0:00:22strengthen and bring slightly less cold air every now and again.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23The blue colours, though,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25will always dominate and cold air never far away

0:00:25 > 0:00:27and that's the case as we go into Friday.

0:00:27 > 0:00:28Cold air is back for many

0:00:28 > 0:00:30after slightly milder weather on Thursday.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32That gets swept away by outbreaks of rain,

0:00:32 > 0:00:33a little sleet first thing

0:00:33 > 0:00:34in the south-east corner

0:00:34 > 0:00:36and then a spell of rain, sleet,

0:00:36 > 0:00:37hail maybe even some hill snow

0:00:37 > 0:00:38pushing across England

0:00:38 > 0:00:39and Wales during the morning,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41confined across East Anglia and the south-east

0:00:41 > 0:00:43for the afternoon but elsewhere

0:00:43 > 0:00:45further west and north, after an icy start,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47there will be some sunshine developing quite

0:00:47 > 0:00:49widely into the afternoon but further snow

0:00:49 > 0:00:50and sleet showers across much

0:00:50 > 0:00:51of Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:00:51 > 0:00:52and even to north-west England,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54could give a covering in places.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Temperatures back into single figures for many,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58frost quickly forming Friday night,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00becoming confined to central and eastern areas

0:01:00 > 0:01:02into Saturday morning, but the next plume

0:01:02 > 0:01:03of slightly less cold air

0:01:03 > 0:01:05moves in with this weather front.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08It's pushing in across some very cold air to begin with on Saturday,

0:01:08 > 0:01:09so there could be a spell

0:01:09 > 0:01:11of heavy snow over the hills of Scotland,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13northern England, even a bit of snow

0:01:13 > 0:01:14for a time to lower levels,

0:01:14 > 0:01:15before that turns back to rain

0:01:15 > 0:01:17as south-westerly winds dominate

0:01:17 > 0:01:19and quite a wet afternoon on the way on Saturday

0:01:19 > 0:01:20across many parts of England and Wales,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22driest for longest East Anglia

0:01:22 > 0:01:23and the south-east.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Turns dry and a little bit brighter to Scotland

0:01:25 > 0:01:27and Northern Ireland later on Saturday.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28Temperatures in double figures,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30still cold across the south-east.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But through Saturday night, one to watch,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34a deep area of low pressure developing

0:01:34 > 0:01:36whilst it crosses the UK through Saturday night.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38On the southern flank of it gales to severe gales.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41England and Wales most prone to that at the moment,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43but a lot of uncertainty how that will develop.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Now even if it's not a massive feature,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47it'll push its way off into the North Sea

0:01:47 > 0:01:49quite quickly on Sunday and then we tap back into those

0:01:49 > 0:01:51colder conditions once again.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53In fact, very cold air with this on Sunday,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55the showers we see will be mainly of sleet and snow,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57particularly the north and west.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58Good covering of yet further snow

0:01:58 > 0:02:00in places, maybe in the north and west,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04sunshine in between and temperatures low single figures

0:02:04 > 0:02:06made to feel colder by the strength of the wind.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Winds go a little bit more westerly as we go into Monday

0:02:08 > 0:02:09but still cold air,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11frosty icy start from many,

0:02:11 > 0:02:12still some sleet and snow around

0:02:12 > 0:02:13in the form of showers,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15mainly to the western half of the country

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and then fewer showers in the afternoon,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19a little bit more sunshine

0:02:19 > 0:02:21and strengthening south-westerly winds.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23This is the next push of something a little less cold

0:02:23 > 0:02:24ahead of the next weather system.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Now this could be quite interesting, this one.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Long way off, a lot of uncertainty.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30As it gets towards us, there is a small chance

0:02:30 > 0:02:32we could start to develop a south-easterly wind.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34If we do, we're mixing cold air with it and as it

0:02:34 > 0:02:36crosses across the country into Tuesday,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38that could give a covering

0:02:38 > 0:02:39of snow just about anywhere.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41It's a long way off, a lot of uncertainty,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43one to watch, pushing its way eastwards

0:02:43 > 0:02:44and then we're back into brighter weather

0:02:44 > 0:02:46by the end of the day, but, as I said,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48there could be some travel problems around,

0:02:48 > 0:02:49sunshine to finish with

0:02:49 > 0:02:51and that takes us into a frosty night.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Now as we go into the rest

0:02:53 > 0:02:54of next week, half term, of course,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56still got the jet stream with us.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59And it begins to make more of an undulating pattern

0:02:59 > 0:03:02and as it does so, we see an area of low pressure develop in this

0:03:02 > 0:03:05little trough here, this little dip in the jet stream,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08as you can see, and that low pressure becomes slow-moving

0:03:08 > 0:03:10pushing across the country.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12It is likely to bring us not the best of weather for half-term

0:03:12 > 0:03:13if you want to get out and about.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15There will be some sunshine at times

0:03:15 > 0:03:17but we're staying largely on the cold side,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20still a few brief milder spells, but throughout it could be quite windy.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23One to watch that, though, later next week, there's a small

0:03:23 > 0:03:25chance that high-pressure develops over Scandinavia,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27low pressure to the south and west of us

0:03:27 > 0:03:29and that could bring some colder weather our way.
