0:00:01 > 0:00:05Hello. Thanks for tuning in to our weather for the next week or so,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08and there is a lot happening on the weather front.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Potential snow on the way as well.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11The first spell of snow

0:00:11 > 0:00:14could actually come during the course of the night -

0:00:14 > 0:00:15this is a weather front

0:00:15 > 0:00:18that's approaching out of the Atlantic here.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Let me show you where the battle of the mild and the cold is.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24You can see the mild air coming out of the Azores,

0:00:24 > 0:00:25way down towards the south,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27cold air streaming out of Greenland,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30and where you get this clash, that's where the snow forms.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32So through the course of the night, we've got some snow

0:00:32 > 0:00:35across northern parts of England, mostly across the hills,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38but not exclusively, and Scotland as well.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41On top of that, gale-force winds also rattling through

0:00:41 > 0:00:44he north-west of the country, so places like Liverpool, Manchester,

0:00:44 > 0:00:48through Yorkshire towards eastern counties as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51There could be some very rough winds rattling your windows

0:00:51 > 0:00:53during the night,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55and behind me you can see lots of wintry showers heading our way.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58So in the wake of this nasty area of low pressure,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00which will still be bringing a lot of wind

0:01:00 > 0:01:02towards these eastern areas in the morning,

0:01:02 > 0:01:06in the wake of it, we've got strong north-westerly winds,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09lots of wintry showers. Some of them could just about settle

0:01:09 > 0:01:12and I wouldn't be surprised if we get some flakes of snow

0:01:12 > 0:01:15as far south as south-eastern parts of the UK.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18But most of them will be across northern and western areas.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21You can see we're in the cold air mass during Sunday

0:01:21 > 0:01:22and into Monday as well,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25but the mild air's being pushed towards the south.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Here's the jet stream racing across the Atlantic

0:01:28 > 0:01:30and that cold air established across the UK

0:01:30 > 0:01:32during the course of Monday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34So Monday starts off cold and crisp,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36there'll probably be frost around as well.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Look - there's another weather front.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42And you know I showed you that cold air mass coming out of the Atlantic?

0:01:42 > 0:01:44That weather front is stuck in the cold air,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48so that could spell trouble Monday night into Tuesday.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Must stay tuned to weather forecasts,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52because with this weather front sitting in the cold air,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54we could see a spell of snow

0:01:54 > 0:01:58approaching...many parts of the UK, in fact,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01and it won't be just settling across the hills, necessarily.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Let's have a look at that in a bit more detail.

0:02:03 > 0:02:04Here it is. Monday night into Tuesday,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07snow across Ireland, into Scotland,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10northern England, there could be some snow into Wales as well,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12and some of this will be settling.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14So this is a day, early on Tuesday,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17we're going to be keeping a very close eye on that

0:02:17 > 0:02:20to find out, to figure out exactly how much snow will fall.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22But there could be a covering in places,

0:02:22 > 0:02:26so worth staying in touch with the forecast for this particular day.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29And then later on Tuesday, that weather front clears away,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32the skies clear and we'll get some sunshine.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35So there could be a covering of snow in some areas

0:02:35 > 0:02:37during the course of the day as well.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40So that's Tuesday - a cold day.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42And then look what happens as we head into Wednesday.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Another little waft of milder air, and where you get that clash

0:02:45 > 0:02:49between the mild and the cold and the jet stream on top of that,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51that's where you get the weather fronts.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54So there's going to be another weather front moving across the UK,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58and here it is. What a mess it looks like on Wednesday morning.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Rain and snow mixing in. You just get a sense that that snow

0:03:01 > 0:03:04is lifting northwards, so most of the snow is probably going to

0:03:04 > 0:03:06fall across the hills, across northern areas,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08whereas in the south, 10 degrees,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10that's a little bit too mild for snow.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13But an unpleasant day, I think, for many of us on Wednesday.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Beyond that, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday,

0:03:17 > 0:03:21it looks like cold north-westerly winds will prevail across the UK.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22It's very cold out there in the Atlantic,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25so that's going to bring some further wintry showers,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and some of it will be settling. Bye-bye.
