0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. Avid watchers of Weather For The Week Ahead

0:00:05 > 0:00:08will know in recent days we've been talking about the upcoming arrival

0:00:08 > 0:00:10of perhaps colder easterly winds. But, what do you know?

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Some of the computer models have thrown a bit of a googly

0:00:12 > 0:00:15and we might have to wait a little bit longer for those easterlies

0:00:15 > 0:00:17to come our way, as I'll show you in a moment.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20It's been chilly enough in recent days with this flow

0:00:20 > 0:00:22of Atlantic westerlies coming into the UK.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25For some during Thursday, there was a bit more snow to be had.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Hills of northwest England, Northern Ireland,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30heavy snow showers into northwest Scotland,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31whereas for many in the UK,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33there was a return of some welcome sunshine,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and will be around again during Friday.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39In fact, most places on Friday will be fine and dry.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41There's a flow of air from the Atlantic,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43but with high pressure bulging in from the south,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45it does leave northwest Scotland on Friday

0:00:45 > 0:00:47with further heavy snow showers.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Quite tricky over the higher routes, particularly during

0:00:50 > 0:00:52the first part of the day, quite icy.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Icy too into Northern Ireland. Cloud will increase

0:00:54 > 0:00:56to western areas as we go on through the day,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58leaving the best of the afternoon's sunny spells

0:00:58 > 0:01:01in the east, and after, a widespread frost to begin with.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Temperatures top out at around 7-10 Celsius.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Now, as we look at things

0:01:06 > 0:01:08through Friday night and into Saturday,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11this weather system just runs across northern parts of the UK.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13A bit of rain, sleet and a bit of hill snow to be had.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Petering out during Saturday morning and we're left -

0:01:16 > 0:01:18for northern England, Scotland, Northern Ireland -

0:01:18 > 0:01:20with a scattering of showers, wintry on the hills.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Dry across southern parts here

0:01:22 > 0:01:24with probably the best of the sunny spells.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27The temperatures pretty similar. Still some just nudging

0:01:27 > 0:01:29into double figures.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Saturday night and into Sunday,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33another weak weather system working on through,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36another one just edging towards the west later in the day.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38That's a recipe for a bit more cloud

0:01:38 > 0:01:40for part two of the weekend on Sunday,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42to the north and west of the UK in particular.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45It may be a bit damp and drizzly underneath that.

0:01:45 > 0:01:46You see the land here,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48the green land here towards the southeast.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50That does mean probably still some sunny spells

0:01:50 > 0:01:52to be had here.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54There are a few more of us getting into double figures -

0:01:54 > 0:01:5611 degrees in Belfast, for example, on Sunday.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Going into the start of next week,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01it is a really quiet weather pattern across the UK.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03So nothing happening very quickly,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06but we're left with a lot of cloud on Monday.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Sunshine much harder to come by.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11It's misty, there's hill fog around and it's still damp

0:02:11 > 0:02:12and drizzly in some spots as well.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16But it's a different feel out there. 10 degrees in Stornoway

0:02:16 > 0:02:20and Aberdeen, so more of us getting into double figures.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23And it looks like more of us, by Tuesday, with this quiet

0:02:23 > 0:02:25weather pattern will actually start to see a bit more

0:02:25 > 0:02:27in the way of sunshine, although by Tuesday,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30temperatures may just come down a degree or so once again.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32So a quiet start to next week.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36It's beyond this stage, going deeper into next week

0:02:36 > 0:02:38we were thinking high pressure would set up near Scandinavia

0:02:38 > 0:02:40easterly winds could come in and they'd be quite cold,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42but look at this. This is one possible suggestion

0:02:42 > 0:02:44for the end of next week.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Low pressure, a deep area of low pressure

0:02:46 > 0:02:49towards the northwest of the UK, wet windy weather coming in

0:02:49 > 0:02:52with the Atlantic very much still in charge of our weather

0:02:52 > 0:02:56with quite a mild flow, quite strong winds, particularly

0:02:56 > 0:03:00across southern parts. No sign of that cold easterly wind.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03So what does that mean for our weather next week?

0:03:03 > 0:03:07Well, we've established that the half of the week,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09pretty sure it'll be fairly quiet and milder.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Then there's that possibility, but it's far from set in stone,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14that we'll see something wetter and windier for a time,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16delaying the arrival of perhaps colder easterlies.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18If this doesn't happen, and it yet may not,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21then the easterlies may well come in at the end of next week.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24You can see there's still a lot to play for,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but when it comes to those easterly winds,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29it's still a case of when rather than if.
