0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. There's a bit of a battle going on,

0:00:05 > 0:00:07between milder air in the Atlantic and something colder further east.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09Over the next few days,

0:00:09 > 0:00:10it looks like it's the milder air

0:00:10 > 0:00:12that's going to win through.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Shown here with the yellow colours,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16gradually extending their way across the UK.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18They don't hang around for very long

0:00:18 > 0:00:21because, through next week, these bluer colours -

0:00:21 > 0:00:22the colder air further east -

0:00:22 > 0:00:25start the push their way back westwards.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27More on that in just a moment. Back to the here and now.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29For many, Saturday was a sunny one.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31A few exceptions - we had more cloud around

0:00:31 > 0:00:33across northern and central parts of England,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36some showery rain for a time - that's started to fade.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and then a different sort of day tomorrow.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41We have this warm front pushing its way towards the UK.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44As its name implies, behind it is some milder air.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47But not at first tomorrow - a cold, frosty start.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48We hang onto the dry, bright weather

0:00:48 > 0:00:50for much of the day across eastern areas,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53but cloud will be increasing from the west all the time,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55and that will bring some outbreaks of rain

0:00:55 > 0:00:57into Northern Ireland, western Scotland,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00north-western England, the north of Wales and south-west England.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Highs tomorrow, 7 to 11 Celsius -

0:01:02 > 0:01:05for some, feeling milder than it has done recently.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Now, that front makes slow progress eastwards through tomorrow evening.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10So, eventually, all of us will see some outbreaks of rain.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Doesn't go very far on Monday,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15and grinds to a halt across eastern areas.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17It will keep a lot of cloud across the country on Monday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20There'll be some mist and fog and murky conditions

0:01:20 > 0:01:22with further outbreaks of rain,

0:01:22 > 0:01:23which are likely to linger for a time

0:01:23 > 0:01:25across East Anglia and south-east England.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29But a mild start to the week - highs of 11 or 12 Celsius,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32even across parts of Scotland. Much milder than recently.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35The best of any brighter weather will be further west.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Now, these fronts are not going to go anywhere fast

0:01:37 > 0:01:38as we go into Tuesday,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41cos we've got areas of high pressure on both sides.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43So, once again, it stalls on Tuesday.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Still keeping a lot of cloud

0:01:44 > 0:01:47with some outbreaks of rain across England and Wales.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Drier and brighter with the best of the sunshine

0:01:49 > 0:01:51across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:52But temperatures starting to come down,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55particularly for eastern counties.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59Still just about holding on to something milder further west.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01We do start to see those easterly winds

0:02:01 > 0:02:03starting to develop as we go through Wednesday.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05And you see this area of high pressure?

0:02:05 > 0:02:08That's going to keep things mainly dry and settled across the country.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Any fronts will have fizzled out by that stage.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13So there'll be some cloud around on Wednesday,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16but generally a quiet day and, after a cold, frosty start,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18we'll see some spells of sunshine,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but temperatures are going to struggle to recover -

0:02:20 > 0:02:23five to seven Celsius quite typically on Wednesday.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26So we are back into the cold air.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27As we go ahead into Thursday,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30again, much of the country dry with some sunshine.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31A cold, frosty start.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33This band of rain could just start to affect

0:02:33 > 0:02:35north-western parts of Scotland,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38and maybe Northern Ireland later in the day on Thursday.

0:02:38 > 0:02:39But, again, it's this battle

0:02:39 > 0:02:41between the colder air further east

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and something milder further west.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45And, certainly for the end of the week,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47it looks like that colder air is going to win through.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Still some discussion amongst the models

0:02:50 > 0:02:53as to exactly where this area of high pressure across Scandinavia

0:02:53 > 0:02:57is going to be, and just how cold it could get.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59But it certainly looks like daytime temperatures

0:02:59 > 0:03:01are not going to get much above six or seven Celsius

0:03:01 > 0:03:05for the end of the week, and we're still dry and settled.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07And although milder air is never too far away,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09it does look likely that this colder air,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11with those easterly winds,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14are going to continue to affect the country.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16So what does that mean further ahead?

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Well, perhaps just milder for a time,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20particularly for Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23but we're going to hang on to those easterly winds for most,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24and it will be turning much colder.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25That's all from me.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29Phil Avery will have the forecasts for you tomorrow. Bye-bye.
