0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. If you've been watching our forecasts

0:00:04 > 0:00:07for the last few days or so, I can tell you straight away

0:00:07 > 0:00:09the message is unchanged.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Disruptive snowfall is expected

0:00:11 > 0:00:12in the week ahead

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and different parts of the country

0:00:14 > 0:00:16will be getting snow on different days.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19The cold air that's come all the way from Russia

0:00:19 > 0:00:21has pretty much engulfed the whole of Europe, the UK,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Ireland and is even now pushing out into the Atlantic,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26that doesn't happen very often.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28In the short term, the weather's not too bad.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31There will be some flurries of snow during the course of the night

0:00:31 > 0:00:32and into Monday morning

0:00:32 > 0:00:34across eastern areas of the UK.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36So, yes, some of us early on Monday morning

0:00:36 > 0:00:38will be waking up to

0:00:38 > 0:00:39a fresh covering of snow.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Nothing too thick we don't think at this stage and,

0:00:42 > 0:00:43in fact, for most of us,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Monday is actually not looking bad at all.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47There'll be some sunshine around

0:00:47 > 0:00:49and occasional passing snow flurries.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Most of the snow flurries

0:00:51 > 0:00:52will be across eastern areas,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54but they will become a little bit more frequent

0:00:54 > 0:00:56during the course of the afternoon

0:00:56 > 0:00:59and they will push inland to some western areas as well.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01So, anywhere on Monday could have at least a few flakes

0:01:01 > 0:01:03of snow, if not a light covering.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Most of the day the temperatures will be below freezing,

0:01:06 > 0:01:07they may peak at

0:01:07 > 0:01:09a couple of degrees or so,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11but it will feel like it's minus five degrees

0:01:11 > 0:01:13because the winds will be strongest

0:01:13 > 0:01:15out of the east across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17And then Monday evening, the snow showers

0:01:17 > 0:01:19really gather pace

0:01:19 > 0:01:21across the North Sea and we're watching this area here.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22This has actually prompted

0:01:22 > 0:01:24the Met Office to already issue

0:01:24 > 0:01:27an amber warning for heavy, disruptive snow

0:01:27 > 0:01:30across some eastern and central areas of the UK.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31This is what it looks

0:01:31 > 0:01:33like early on Tuesday morning.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35So, disruptive snowfall falling

0:01:35 > 0:01:36across parts of Lincolnshire,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38into the Midlands,

0:01:38 > 0:01:39possibly as far west as Birmingham.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42There'll be some heavy snow showers in other areas as well.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44And through the course of the day,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46the snow showers may become relentless

0:01:46 > 0:01:47across some eastern parts of the country.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49So, by the end of Wednesday,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52could be a good covering here and there.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54The same pattern continues into Wednesday,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56the snow showers pile into eastern areas

0:01:56 > 0:01:58and you get that message that it's the east

0:01:58 > 0:02:00that initially gets most of the snow,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01whereas out west,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03it looks like the snow cover

0:02:03 > 0:02:04will be quite patchy,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05cold during the day,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07below freezing for most of us.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11Now, just how thick will that snow cover be across the UK?

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Roughly 10-20 centimetres across the eastern counties,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16whereas further south and west

0:02:16 > 0:02:18you could see just from a dusting

0:02:18 > 0:02:20to perhaps just as much as 5 or 10 centimetres.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23But that is just a very rough guess for now.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24Thursday, early in the morning,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27a widespread frost across the UK, obviously,

0:02:27 > 0:02:28and through Thursday itself,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31the weather could really go downhill.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34And I must stress that across some southern parts of the UK,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35on top of the heavy snow,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38we could have gale force winds and with that, some drifting.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40And the problem is that this area of low pressure here

0:02:40 > 0:02:42drifting out of the south will get caught

0:02:42 > 0:02:44in the cold current of air coming out

0:02:44 > 0:02:48of the near continent, so that means that all of this here will be snow.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Watch what happens through the morning,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51snow falling from Cornwall, Devon,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53through central southern England into the London area,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Wales, the Midlands too.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57You've got gale force winds here with snow,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59that effectively is a blizzard.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02It's still not a certainty but a possibility

0:03:02 > 0:03:04and that will be disruptive across the south.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06And watch what happens during the day,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08that low pressure here just lifts northwards

0:03:08 > 0:03:09and engulfs much of the UK,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12so all of this here is snowfall,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14and to the south

0:03:14 > 0:03:17we could even have a spell of potentially some freezing rain

0:03:17 > 0:03:18which could be even worse.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22So it's important to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24these things can change,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but we are pretty certain

0:03:26 > 0:03:28that there will be some problematic weather

0:03:28 > 0:03:29in the coming days.
