0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. First came the bitterly cold air, then the snow,

0:00:05 > 0:00:07and more of us had snow on Tuesday,

0:00:07 > 0:00:08and there is more to come this week,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11into some areas that haven't seen much so far.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13"Bracing" is one word to describe

0:00:13 > 0:00:15this view from North Yorkshire on Tuesday.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Doesn't it look lovely, though?

0:00:17 > 0:00:20And for those who say, "It's never a story unless it snows in London,"

0:00:20 > 0:00:23here's a view of some snow in London on Tuesday.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26Now, we know why it's so cold - well, we've talked about it enough -

0:00:26 > 0:00:28the air coming from Russia, Siberia.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32Bitterly cold across a large swathe of Europe and into the UK.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34The flow of air changing slightly - it was from the north-east,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37it's becoming more of an east-south-easterly flow

0:00:37 > 0:00:39coming in, and that's just changing the area

0:00:39 > 0:00:42seeing the heaviest snow showers over the next couple of days.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44And this is where the Met Office

0:00:44 > 0:00:46has an amber "be prepared" warning in force -

0:00:46 > 0:00:49parts of north-east England, up into eastern Scotland,

0:00:49 > 0:00:50much of the Central Belt as well.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Widely within this zone, 5cm to 10cm.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55There will be more in places, especially on hills.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Drifting in the wind as well.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Some particularly nasty travelling conditions

0:00:59 > 0:01:04as these showers continue to feed in through Wednesday into Thursday.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Elsewhere, the snow showers are more scattered during Wednesday,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09with sunny spells, but they're capable of delivering

0:01:09 > 0:01:11a few centimetres here and there.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13And, believe it or not, it's even colder -

0:01:13 > 0:01:15some places not getting above freezing.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16You factor in the wind and, for some,

0:01:16 > 0:01:20it will feel like it is minus double figures.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23So it's even colder, the wind actually is about to pick up

0:01:23 > 0:01:25a bit further as we go through Thursday into Friday.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28This area of low pressure, Iberia,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30named by the Portuguese weather service for impact there

0:01:30 > 0:01:32as Storm Emma, is going to feed up moisture -

0:01:32 > 0:01:34as you can see going into Thursday -

0:01:34 > 0:01:36into the cold air in place across the UK,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and that means more snow. Not snow showers,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42but an area of more persistent snow feeding into parts

0:01:42 > 0:01:45of southern England, particularly south-west England, into Wales.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47The winds picking up as well -

0:01:47 > 0:01:49that means the risk of seeing some blizzards,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51and we still have snow showers feeding into eastern Scotland,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53a few for Northern Ireland.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55It is still bitterly cold for most.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57But this next area of snow is why the Met Office

0:01:57 > 0:02:00has another amber "be prepared" warning -

0:02:00 > 0:02:02you can see the area it covers for Thursday,

0:02:02 > 0:02:06where we could see some blizzards and significantly disruptive snow.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09So very much keep across this part of the forecast.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Going into Friday, this area of snow expands

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and starts to push its way further north to Northern Ireland -

0:02:14 > 0:02:17you can see it's stretching down into south-east England.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Something to play for in how heavy this snow is going to be,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23so again we'll keep you updated on that.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Still some snow showers into eastern Scotland.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29It's a little less cold to the south of this area of snow.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32And that's another story as we go into the weekend.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35The big picture for the weekend is that area of low pressure.

0:02:35 > 0:02:36It's a complex pattern to the south-west,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38but it's dominated by low pressure.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41That's in control, so you know it's going to be unsettled.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45But look at this - this is rain showers feeding into southern parts.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Less cold air feeding into the UK around this area of low pressure.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51You can see the flow of air - it's not from Russia, Siberia,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53it's coming up from the south-west.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55But still it's an easterly feed

0:02:55 > 0:02:57coming in to northern parts of the UK,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58particularly into Scotland.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02So although it is a little less cold, it is still cold enough

0:03:02 > 0:03:05to produce some snow, even going into the start of next week.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08So the picture into next week - it is less cold for many of us,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11particularly across southern parts of the UK.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13It's low pressure, so it's unsettled - it's often windy.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16It will be wet at times because it's low pressure,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17but because there's still some cold air,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20particularly across northern parts of the UK,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23we're not yet out of the woods when it comes to snow.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26But at least it's not going to be as bitterly cold

0:03:26 > 0:03:28as it is at the moment. And that's how it's looking.
